I just had to do a coaching profile of a famous basketball coach and I chose Univ. of Tennessee Lady Vols, Pat Summit. She is totally awesome! She has numerous titles and honors as well as one of the best teams around!
So who is your favorite famous coach?

My favorite coach was my high school coach. Coach Pittman, he was so cool! He was one of those who really made an impact on one's life. What's odd is I've always wanted to become one of those teachers who teach math and coach. That's always an option.

But famous coach.... err... I would have to say:
Football: Vince Lombardi and Bill Cowher (the steelers coach)
Basketball: Greg Popovich; San Antonio Spurs fan here

My favorite local coach is my dad ^_^ (though he never coached me)--he is retired but was an awesome Jr. High coach and teacher!

Favorite famous coaches?

Starting waay back when, Cap Anson, mgr. for the old Cicago baseball teams around the turn of the previous century.

Basketball, Dennie Bridges, longtime now-retired-from-coaching-but-still-AD coach at Illinois Wesleyan University. Coach K from Duke.

Football, Da' Coach, Mike Ditka. He epitomized what it means to be a Chicago Bear, a Monster of the Midway.

Probably good ol' Mr. Helton. I never had him (he coached football, but had retired) but he always was such a great fun old-guy. He loved what he taught too, and was always just so great to be around.

As for a real coach in my life, probably Coach Turnman. He was my high school tennis coach--and even though I was the worst on the team, he always had nothing but kind words of encouragement for me. He always helped me, took extra time to practice with me, and was always there for me to make sure I wasn't getting too stressed or anything. He was just a wonderful coach who really cared about each and every one of the atheletes, not just the stars.

As for famous ones, well I like Dom Capers, he's doing a good job with the Texans....other than that I can't think of any notable ones. Although I'm suprised Agasfas didn't mention the Big Tuna. Or is that because he's been stinking like a dead fish lately? *ducks*

I would go with Bud Grant of the Minnesota Vikings he was able to take them
to the Superbowl all 4 times they went.
Other than that I would also agree with the choice of Vince Lombardi
the greatest coach of all time.
