A rant by wing about OVA's

Postby Roy Mustang » Wed Nov 24, 2004 1:53 am

Don't you hate it when they take their sweet little time on releasing OVA's anime.

Like Macross Zero. I got to see Ep one from four at anime con in Sept and at the end, it said Ep five coming to Japan in Oct of 2004. I was like, great! Now I have to wait a full year before I get to see this and who knows when it will be licensed for release in the U.S.

The same goes for the Tenchi OVA number 3. They are like up to Ep four in Japan now and they still have two more to go. Why can't they just go ahead and license those four and release them over here. That way, we can watch some of it and it will not feel like a 100 years for them to get a full release of the OVA's over here at one time.

 That is my rant and now I'm going to bed!

Actually, the newest Tenchi has been licensed by Funimation. However, I doubt it will be released here until close to it's completion in Japan.

Yeah OAV is suppose be slower then the regular TV series in the anime world because the animation has much higer detail then what a regular TV series has it and I know it can be a pain in the butt but that is how it goes in the world of anime.

OVAs in general are a lot high quality since there isn't an "per episode" deadline unlike a TV series and for that, the animators can take their time. Some OVAs (like in Gatekeepers 21) can take about 2 months before ONE episode is released. Probably that time is the reason why they are more superior than their TV series counter-parts.

The time it takes to go from Japan to the US varies greatly depending on both the Japanese rights holder and the US licensor.

If you are only waiting a year, consider yourself lucky. I’ve been waiting over a decade for Legends of Galactic Heroes and that stinkin’ nazi mouse is taking perverse pleasure in yanking my chain over Nausicaä.

Whoo. I feel better now. Thanks for the rant space, winger.
