Since someone already suggested this I'll start a thread about Nadia. It is an anime about a mysterious girl trying to find the land of her birth and the young boy Jean, an inventor, who falls in love with her and vows to help her find her home. Along the way the get chased by villains after her mysterious stone, the Blue Water, and they join up with Captain Nemo and his crew aboard the Nautilus. It is generally a very fun and enjoyable series; however, there is a lot of bad religion toward the end which I'll put in spoilers for anyone who desires to know before getting this title.

[spoiler]Towards the latter half of the series, it is revealed that the Atlanteans were actually aliens from another galaxy. It then goes on to explain that most of the stories about God in the book of Genesis are actually about the Atlanteans. They were the ones who created all life on Earth, and created humans to be their servants, they flooded the Earth and built the Ark, and they created the Tower of Babel and used it to destroy Sodom and Gomorah. Basicly everything that you thought God did in Genesis was actually the Atlanteans. [/spoiler]

I am considering getting this series. As far as anime box sets go, the Nadia box sets are fairly cheap.

I'm on the second volume, about to watch the third volume. It is a pretty entertaining series so far.

Nadia (Mistery of the blue Stone is the title in italy) is not bad, but I think that talk about our religion is not correct to us. I think that the best for autor is, that when he want to put religion in the story, he has two choice:
1)report exactly what religion say, without modify or be blasfeme
2)invenct a new religion - so nothing could be blasfem because is all invect

Do you agree with me guys?

Personally, I think that the writer should just be a christian and reflect that, but that's what's called a "best case senerio"

Anyway, I've only got the first set so far. "Cheep" is a relitave concept

Yes, that was my take on it as well while I was watching it.

But it did still bother me to an extent. But I'll cover that a lot more in depth in my review (which is currently in draft form). But CDLviking is right, and that was my top concern while watching this otherwise awesome series.

Something like this came up in the Book Corner a few days ago. I think things like this are disturbing not because they do not recognize God but because they are trying to say on a very fundamental level that all religion is a misunderstanding. I doubt the writer of Nadia wants us to believe in Atlanteans but it's very possible he's trying to make this other point.

Perhaps this wasn't his intent. Perhaps he saw the Bible primarily as literature and had no agenda in adapting what he saw as a popular story into his own work. But, that does not make these implications go away.

What this means as far as watching Nadia, I don't know. One on hand, it would be good to watch because it would promote awareness and discussion of this common accusation against Christian faith. On the other, there is watching something possibly written with the assumption that religious viewers are misguided fools.

Hmm... I had not gotten to the part where it explains about the Atlanteans yet. I'll have to judge for myself though when I get to the part.

I wasn't too upset with the religion aspect, considering it's a fantasy. There is still the notion in the show that Gargoyle's world view about the place of God and humans is not entirely true, and it is not right.

[spoiler] Nemo, also an Atlantean (which Gargoyle himself isn't, he's a human), has a very different view on humans. [/spoiler]

In the second half, though, the show starts to get a little strange.

[spoiler] The whole "stranded on an island a la Blue Lagoon" bit was very odd. And was isn't it about that time that king started getting a little more, um, anatomically correct? Some of the stuff gave me shivers, but the series was still enjoyable. [/spoiler]

I remember King being that way for the whole show. Most anime that I've seen represents animals realisticly in that way.
