Nov. 11th
Tomorrow, November 11th is rememberance day. On this day, we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country both in time of war, and on UN missions overseas. We are also called to remember what they died for, and to reflect on our own duty to ensure that those sacrifices were not made in vain; "to you from failing hands we throw the torch; be yours to hold it high".

The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Some of the politics and policies of our countries have been at odds recently, but I for one remember the sacrifices made by our friends to the North in many "gallant" battles through two world wars and well beyond. In my heart, I know the Canadians are just as dedicated to democracy and liberty as Americans are. I salute all who have made that sacrifice - in Canada on the 11th and here in the US on the 15th (Veterans Day) and I look forward to our friendship once again growing closer.

Thanks for the info. It is always important to remember that there are brave people in every country who are willing to sacrifice their lives in order to defend others.

I was just wondering if they had the same thing in USA. ^v^
I'm not sure why, but I really like Rememberance Day. It's a very kind idea, even though to think about what happen makes me sad. I don't like war at all, and I am happy that nov. 11 (and nov. 15) are there to remind to us that many people sacrificed, to teach that war isn't good at all. (it's what I think so).

I'm just curious, is there a reason why it's on the 15th? In Canada and Britain it's the 11th, since that's the date of the WWI armistace.

Yesterday at school we had a veteran speak at assembly. It was very interesting, he said stories about how he got captured and had to spend time in concentration camp. (this was during the second world war ). The things he had to go through were very hard... I think he told us that at a certain camp ( he went to 2) the prisoners lived on 1 potato a day.
