Swords vrs guns, post yor opinon

Talk about anything in here.

If I smack you in the face with my rifle, you will feel pain, bullets or no.

That is beside the point, though. The topic of this thread appears to be one of preference. I own swords, both short and long, and guns, both handguns and rifles.

If we are speaking only of what is practical, then I still ask for a situation. In war or for hunting, it's a rifle. It's the best all around weapon when your intent is to do grievous bodily harm to another living being.

For self defense, it's a toss up between a handgun and a short sword/knife, assuming you are sufficiently trained in the use of either. Both are small, easy to carry, and quick to bare. The gun is more powerful, but you are less likely to miss with a knife. Range should not be an issue because you should not be "defending yourself" from an assailant who is more than a few yards away.

If we are speaking of less practical things, then it's a matter of style. Swords hold a great deal of romance and the flash of polished steel is enticing, but I love the smell of gunpowder and Hoppes (gun oil).

Over all, I prefer guns. I love rifles, they have such a great history. That's where the romance is for me.

Swords (esp. broadswords) are infinitely cooler, but modern guns are much more practical.

BZZZZT. Sorry. Not true. See below.

From Dictionary.com:
Sword = A weapon consisting typically of a long, straight or slightly curved, pointed blade having one or two cutting edges and set into a hilt.

Wrong. It says CUTTING EDGES, not SHARP EDGES. I own a wooden practice sword that has a single "cutting edge" which is as dull as toast. The phrase cutting edge refers to the fact that you cut with that side. A katana has a single cutting edge, whereas a claymore (for example) has two. My sensei spars with a metal sword that is NOT sharp, but has a very defined cutting edge.

Please be sure to get the facts straight before posting like that.

Heh, this whole issue is a toughy, so I propose this:

Everyone behind the gun put forth your anime gun champ...

Everyone with the sword, elect your defender of the blade...

Then we all see who wins the fight, when we put them against one another! >;2)

This will settle it once and for all. :2)

GUNS. I hail from south carolina, so of course guns. Guns will take swords any day in a fight, unless the swordsman uses stealth and stuff, but guns would win. No one can block a bullet with a sword. Period. Unless you sneak up on someone with a gun, the gun will win. I personally love shotguns, not much aiming is required with them. Also, the Berret 50, a 50 cal. sniper rifle. But my favortie gun of all is the chain gun on the A10 Warthog. Each chamber is thirty mils. and it shoots spent uranium rounds. It's one mean, mean gun.

guns take much less skill and discaplin and they dont look nearly as cool as swords. Guns are better in a pinch but I would choose a sword fight over a gun fight any day.

But...the gunblade was really just a sword with a gun part for added thrust.

So it counts as a sword only.

The best all-around weapons would be those wielded by the samurai character in Gungrave: Overdose. Katana with semiautomatic pistols built in.

Swords are my favorite for certain. Being the Japanese-crazy guy that I am. ^^
But even with that aside, they are awesome and very effective weapons. I have my own katana and I love it. It's a good practice sword and it looks awesome, but it wouldn't be used much higher than that.
