Oni-Con Tapes

Postby Ashley » Fri Oct 29, 2004 2:55 pm

To everyone who has PM'd me about getting their hands on an Oni-Con tape:

First off, I haven't ignored you guys! I've just been really busy with school. I have about 8 people requesting tapes, so that's going to take a while to copy and get them shipped....right now I'm looking at maybe next weekend, if not the weekend after. Probably no later than Thanksgiving. I apologize, but I'm a part time waitress and full time student...little time inbetween. But I figured everyone deserved to know what was up.

Also, I wanted to give a big public thank you to Reverend Doc--without him, this wouldn't be possible so everyone thank him as well! And Keely too--if it weren't for her I wouldn't have even been invited to speak, so she deserves some thanks too.

Also, if you want a tape, it isn't too late. Just PM me and we'll be happy to get one to you.

Well then, let me thank Rev. Doc, Keely, and Ashley. I appreciate the time you've all volunteered. Whenever the tapes get to us, that will be fine! No hurry.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Hey Ash:

Would you rather just Mail one tape to me - then I could digitize it and place it online? Would that be easier?

Sounds like an excellent idea. It would put this panel in the hands of everyone who would like to see it.

I think the biggest thank you should go to Keely and Ashley who were willing to represent our Lord in a setting that could have proven to be anything but friendly. Your faith is certainly a great encouragement.

The Oni-Con tapes are copies of the panel on Christianity and Anime that Keely of AnimeAngels and I did at Oni-Con 2004 in Houston.

Which brings me to my announcement: we've decided to digitize the tapes and offer copies of them online for downloading. This will be faster and cheaper all around. OldPhilosopher has kindly offered to do this in his spare time, so we all have him to thank for it. Again, it may be a few weeks, but we'll let everyone know soon.

I was also thinking of suggesting that. That would probably be your best bet not to mention cheaper. Hope it all works out. Good luck with the project :thumb:

Wow! I didn't know you guys held a panel like that at Oni - Con. That's awesome! That would be cool if we could put together a panel like that for Anime Exop 2005 down here in cailfornia. It's one of the bigger cons around.
