I didn't really mind them.
My all-time favorite episode--because it was sooooo funny--was the one with the artist, who fell in love with Kaoru. XD My whole family laughed through the entire episode!!

I just ordered Kenshin today. I've been waiting over a year to check it out, but I finally decided to go ahead and get it.
Though I'm a little worried. You see I ordered the Rurouni Kenshin, Premium Box 1 off Amazon's market place, and WHILE the person did list it under brand new and factory sealed and He mentioned it was Region 1.
I'm STILL a little worried that it's probably gonna be bootleg... 58 dollars is what I paid for it anyways.

I have yet to have purchased bootleg as of yet, but I figure someday it's gonna happen.

I believe he was a student because later in the episodes there's a guy using some form of that technique and I doubt he learned it from Jin-e.

Indeed, I was reading the manga it said that "supposedly" only its master Nikaida, since Jin-E's style was called Nikaida Heiho or something, and people thought it wasn't passed to the next generation.

Guess the people were wrong. ^_^

I was asking because I'm writing up descriptions for a sorta sequel OAV of the series based on Kenji's adventures starting shortly after Kenshin's death and was thinking of having a villain that may have known, secretly, some of Shin No Ipo.

And what might that be? I've seen just about all the episodes in the first boxset on Cartoon network before, but I'll buy it sometime anyways. I own seasons 2 and 3 and I'm almost in the middle of season 3 while watch Nadesico AND Last Exile. So, don't tell me you have to watch 1 before the other. Multi-watching is fun! (kinda)

So besides the 95-episode TV series & the Manga, what else is there of Kenshin? I know there's an OVA and a Movie, but I don't know the names. And is that it? HELP!

LOL it's not that. It's a little stupid but Since I have so many dvd's and such, and usually on my day off's if I have nothing to do I pick a movie/anime/tv series that I own on dvd (that i've never seen) written on paper out of a bottle. So That always says the next movie I'll watch. Then Afterwards if there's something I wanna really watch, I go ahead and watch it.
I just started doing this because well I own over 300 movies, and while i've seen most of them, the ones that I haven't seen probably wouldn't be seen if it was completly up to me, but as a movie buff I believe in given just about every film a chance.


So Since now I have just finished watching what I needed to watch, Later today I will start watching Kenshin.

I loved Rurouni Kenshin. Excellent series. The only part I didn't really enjoy was the whole part near the end about feng shui. But the rest was great (I think the Christian-related part had a very good ending). And I loved the Meiji arc. The battles were great.
The show really has great characters, many of which are very deep. They developed well. Kenshin of course is my favorite, because he is an incredible swordsman and a very deep character, but the best things about him are his morals. I'm sure he wasn't a believer, but his morals reflected Christian values (except a Christian doesn't have to try to do good deeds to make up for bad ones, since in Jesus his sins are forgiven ). Shishio was also a great villain.
To be honest though, I enjoyed Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal (as well as Reflection) more. I liked the animation and music better, and I'm a romantic, so that's a big part of it. But also, I guess I just liked the more serious story. Rurouni Kenshin is often very serious, but it manages to slip in comedy and stuff as well. Samurai X is completely serious. It was just a very entertaining anime.

Ah, Kenshin.

It was my very first anime, it's always cool to see people getting into it.

There was a period of time when me and my friends would blurt out randomly, for no explicable reason, "Ama Kakeru Ryu no Hirameki!" (His succession technique)

Sano's awesome, I love his accent and how he slurrs words around in true old-school gangsta style.

I like Kenshin in two modes: domestic Kenshin (washin' the dishies, doin' da laundry), and ultra-disturbed Kenshin ala OVA 1 with Tomoe. "Kimi wo mamoru"(I will protect you) was just awesome, and is now my codephrase for "I love you."

Only thing that's questionable: Kamatari. He's one of the Juppon-Gatana, and you'll know what I mean when you see him.

Yeah, I love Rurouni Kenshin. I've often thought to myself, "Man, if they'd get a missionary over there he'd make a great Christian." Like Vash, Kenshin has really got the no-kill thing going.

Funny you say that, cause when Trigun came out we referred to it as "Kenshin with Guns"

Anyway, a question...I know the reason Kenshin has his scar, but how long after that tragic event did he give up being Hitokiri Battousai and what exactly, compounded with the previous experience with Tomoe, caused him to give it up?

Actually, he gives it up right afterwards. He didn't give up killing until after his 10 year "wandering gap" when he disappeared, but after Tomoe, Katsura told him that he's sorry he put him through this and that Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu was indeed meant to protect rather than kill, so he found another Hitokiri to replace him. That Hitokiri we know as Shishio Makoto. The scenes of Kenshin fighting you see after that is him as a bodyguard protecting the Ishin Shishi, and (in the director's cut) him fighting on the battlefield as a frontline warrior. So basically, he gives up assassinating people first, then gives up killing altogether later.

You are indeed correct about the Kakure Kirishitans. They translate it as "secret Christians", though, in the show. ANYWAY, I guess it really all just boils down to your perception of it. I didn't think that it was offensive toward Christians, it just showed a fictional group of people who believed in God. All in all, it was more sympathetic toward the Christians in the end. The sites you read that said that they were like a cult following one man were only half right. [spoiler] In Rurouni Kenshin, Shougo Amakusa was set up by another man (his name escapes me at the moment) to be the savior for the persecuted Christians in Japan during that time. Being a boy whose parents were killed by the Japanese government for believing in God, Shougo used the Christians as a method to get his revenge for his mother, in a way. [/spoiler].

Really, the big message behind this Shimabara Arc, as it is called in some circles, isn't for or against Christianity, but rather its point is that everyone should have the freedom to believe in whatever religion they want to, without being senselessly murdered over it. At least, that's what I took away from it...

Soujirou is such a good character. The episode that went into his past during his fight with Kenshin was so powerful. It really made you feel sad for the poor guy. When he went off on his own at the end of the arc, I was genuinely interested in where he was headed next. Of course, Soujirou is awesome, but Saitou is way more...awesome. Aku. Soku. Zan, kids. Aku. Soku. Zan.

Oh yeah, Saitou. Him and his voice actor are both the awesomeness. I love it(pasted from another post of mine):

1. Everytime someone says "Shinsen gumi sanbantai taijou Saitou Hajime"
2. Everytime he goes into gatotsu stance and goes "Ikuzou!"
3. Everytime he bites his glove
4. Everytime he says "Ahou"
5. Everytime he orders plain soba

There're 2 OVAs you must watch. I think you can find them in the states as "Samurai X" (ugh, dislike the name)

There was one moment of comic relief in the first ova: when riizuka lewdly speculates on what happened with kenshin and tomoe the night before, kenshin bangs his sword against the tatami and gets up, effectively freaking out everyone in the dining hall.

I always thought triple posting and double posting meant that you were duplicating posts. Every post I made was addressing a different issue. The alternative is to include everything I want to say in one looong post, which seems a bit cluttered and reader-unfriendly to me, but if that's the preferred format I'll try to do that in the future.
