Can head trauma affect eyesight?

Can it have any effect whatsoever on it? If so, how hard would the blow have to be?

Yes, and pretty hard, hard enough for a concussion.

Hm...would having your head hit by a car door that was being slammed shut do it? It gave me a headache, and a bump, but I didn't pass out or anything. It hit my temple...I think that's how you spell it.

You don't have to pass out, necessarily, to have a concussion (although if you do pass out, that in and of itself is considered a concussion). How long ago did you smack your head?

If your vision doesn't clear up after a few hours, if you start vomiting uncontrollably, or if your headache becomes very severe, I would seek medical attention just to make sure everything is okay.

Yeah, it can. And I would know, because it's happened to me. I fell backwards when I was sparring in Karate/Tae Kwon Do. It was a stupid demonstration thing that all of us Black Belts had to do. I was sparring against a boy a couple years older than me, and I beat him. Right after that, though, when I had just taken off my headgear, he "accidently" hit me while I was completely off-guard, and I fell straight back. I missed school for three months because I was having double and triple vision. Even now, about 5 years later, I still have severe headaches, and every now and then, my vision gets blurry. I'm just happy that it didn't permanently affect my vision. Besides those occasional "blurry" times, my vision is perfect. : ) So, that's just personal experience talking. I really wouldn't know how strong of a blow your head would have to take for your eyesight to be affected. ^^

Uh... ouch... I would advise seeing a doctor. Just to be sure.

I don't think it's a matter of "how hard," either. It'll vary from person to person and from incident to incident. The temple is a particularly vulnerable/sensitive spot on your head as well. Listen to shooby, if the affects are linger, seek medical help.

I don't think it can.I've hit my head on the door, fallen down several times, and over all, accidently bumped my head hard on objects, and my vision's fine.As fine as someone who wears glasses' vision can be^^
And this all happened after I started wearing glasses ^^

Actually, visual disturbances are typical of concussions (although again, not every person with blurry vision after they hit their head has a concussion -- but if it persists, it's definitely something to look at).

Well, according to what I've learned (which isn't all that much, but anyway), blows to the back of the head are more likely to mess up vision. That's the part of the brain that processes vision, so naturally, if it's damaged, or messed with, the effects on your vision will not be good.

The answer to the question... Yes.

As for the temples... well... I know the pain that comes from having a car door slam on a larger body part than your finger (also known as my arm). I've got a bruise that's still there (and quite large O_o)... Anyhoo, that's not very cool.

I'm sorry for everyone's... head traumas!

Heh, thanks everyone. I went to the eye doctor yesterday and they said my eyes were healthy. I had an extremely small prescription, but not enough for glasses. I hit my head...September 16, I think. I was noticing differences in eyesight before that, however, so I don't think it was that. The area that was hit throbbed for a little while after, but otherwise it stopped hurting in about 15-20 minutes (I think...didn't take TOO long). I had a knot there, and it hurt whenever it was touched, but it went away. I guess I'm fine, then. Again, thanks.
