I saw a "LOST" sign for a cat and...

Postby Heart of Sword » Thu Oct 07, 2004 7:14 am

...she's in my backyard. They're offering a reward but I don't need one. I'm just concerned about the kitty because the woods around my house is currently housing a coyote pack. (Those coyotes are so cute though! I named the leader Kiba...... )

I'm calling the owners today. Any suggestions on how I could catch her? It's definetely her as they're looking for a purebred cat and I know my cat breeds...and she doesn't act feral.

I'm thinking that I should dump a few cans of tuna on the ground nearby where she plays, and when she comes out, I'll throw a towel over her, pick her up, and put her in a big box...

How should I do this? I know that cats are easily seduced by the irresistable scent of tuna, so I thought it would be a good idea...

Do you have .... or do you have access to a live trap? It's basically a cage with a trap door and you put something like tuna in the back as bait, the cat has to step on the catch to get the bait and that releases the door thus humanely trapping the kitty ... it also make for easy transport. I dunno if you have one.... but if you go to http://www.livetrap.com/shop/product_shots/cat_shots/double.jpg
it has a pic of what one looks like. I dunno if you could get a hold of one but that's what we use to remove racoons, skunks and other vermin from our property ....

Yea, that sounds like a pretty good idea. The box is better than trying to jump the cat with a towel because it could get pretty nasty :stressed: and having a cat mad and clawing at you isn't the best thing, hehe. If you can't find a self closing door, you'll probably just wanna try and lure the cat into a regular pet carrier with the tuna......good luck to ya! And lets hope coyotes don't like tuna that much, hehe.

Is the cat friendly? If so, you could call the owners, get a bunch of tuna, and pet her until the owners show up. Some cats can't resist tuna AND a good scratch behind the ears. :)

Don't feed it tuna unless it is catfood. Regular or tuna for humans is not good for a cat. Get that cat trapped soon. I don't think I would want something killing it and eating it. I am dealing with 1 older male(Not the father) cat, 1 year old female cat with 6, 6 week old kittens and 2 of her 6 month old kittens that we are keeping. The 6 kittens we are trying to find homes and when they are gone Mama cat is getting fixed and kept as a pet.

If the cat is domestic, it should be relatively easy to approach while it is eatinf something because it shouldn't be too afraid of you. The towel thing is a really good idea - I wouldn't thought of that and may have gotten scratched ot bit. The trick is to do it fast, the cat won't like being under the towel and you'll likely only get on shot at it.

Perhaps try simply approaching it first? If it's really domestic, it may come right up to you to play.

The lady came over and called for her, but she didn't come out. I think I'll try going to the no-kill shelter to borrow a live trap (the lady works there).

Yeah, if it came down to it, I'd catch the cat with my hands, the cat's been vaccinated and I've got cats...I'm used to getting clawed up. *looks down at all the scars all over arms and legs* (alright, so I don't have scars, but...heh)

I really hope we can get her.

By the way, about coyotes liking tuna... *imagines a coyote with its head stuck in a cat carrier*

Good luck! Yeah, if the cat's domestic, I can't imagine you'll have TOO much of a time catching her. Atleast the owners have a general idea of where their kitty is. Good job!
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.
