WWJD

WWJD

Postby Kai Nobuyuki » Sat Oct 02, 2004 5:33 pm

I just finished a book called In His Steps. Its an awesome book! Its about Christian dicipleship...i hope I spelled that right
But it got me to thinking as I read through it. What Would Jesus Do? My mother told me that this book is what started the whole WWDJ craze.

In the book there is a chruch in a town called Raymond, its a very very nice church with all the 'important' (meaning rich) people going to it. One Sunday morning a man who looked like he was homeless interrupted the Pastor and started talking to the chruch. He wasn't drunk or on drugs or anything he was a very humble man after he was finished speaking he passed out. The pastor took him back to his house and cared fro him there but the man died that night. the next Sunday the pastor made a proposal to the church. His proposal was this: For one year ask the question What Would Jesus Do? before you do anything. the ones that had excepted the pledge stayed after chruch and as time went on through the year more and more people made a pledge to do as Christ would. That pledge went on to a chruch in Chicago.

Oh it was a wonderful book. You know I don't know if I could do what these people did in the book, well I mean I could but you know the desires of the flesh would be so overpowering you know? But I also think that that would more determined to keep my pledge. I've never wanted to deny my Master yet in many ways we all do.

My question to you all now is if you we asked to do as Jesus would for one year, would you do it?

Pro-Life Youth Pledge

We are a loud and determined voice for Truth and Life in this culture of death. We stand on the truth of Jesus Christ whom all of our strength comes from. We stand for the protection of all human life from conception (fertilization) until natural death, with no exceptions, no compromise, and no apologies. We are fed up with the lies that MTV, Planned Parenthood and our government are pushing down our throats. We will no longer sit silently by as our generation is being systematically slaughtered through surgical and chemical abortion. This is OUR generation, these are OUR brothers and sisters and we commit to fighting for their lives. You will not silence our message, you will not mock our God, and you will stop killing our generation!

Would you do it if given the opportunity?

^_^; Well, as humans it's impossible to be flawless as Jesus was, but the point of being a Christian is to radiate His light and TRY to do as He would. So really, we should already be striving to do as Jesus would do. :thumb:

K.D. has a point... it would be silly to pretend you can be as good as Christ for a year!

One time, when my family invited our pastor over for dinner, he told us a funny example of how WWJD (taken litterally) isnt such a good thing. It had to do with the cuture of that time period and he said something about how Jesus would have chosen to dance with a guy at a party instead of a girl!

Well the book wasn't saying that you had to be JUST as Jesus but it said that in everything you did ask "would Jesus do this?", "What would Jesus do?" think about being the editor of a newspaper would Jesus have all of those ads for beer and such? Would he put a detailed report of a murder? things like that just simple things like before you listen to something ask "would christ listen to this?" Of course I'm not saying that it would be easy I think it would be hard but still it would be interesting to see the change in peoples lives if they did take that pledge if they hadn't before. The whole book was about being a disciple of Christ and and striving to do as your Master would.

"In His Steps" is a great book and is on my list of required reading. It really shows how high the bar is to follow in Jesus' footsteps.

God can do anything, anytime, anyway He wants to.......if He wants to paint me blue and hang me upside down nekkid from an apple tree, thats alright, as long as it's God doing it. Of course, if He comes through with a directive like that, I might have to ask for some I.D. Michael Wanke

I think we are all called to exactly that for the rest of our lives, not just a year. Those are big shoes we can't hope to fill, but that's the goal.

I think I'm going to read In His Steps.
But what the others say is true; we should be doing this anyway. It is called sanctification. Since, as Christians, we want to become more like him, we should ask if something is right or not. in God's eyes, not ours
Thanks for the reminder.

I had to read that book for either English or Literature. I really liked it, despite the fact that I was upset that it was work for me to do. lol.

Very good book and good lesson along with it.

Yes it is a very good lesson. I think my Youth Pastor might have our Youth class take the challange if we so choose. But now my mom is having me read Fox's book of Martyrs or something like that I can't really remember the name of it but it sounded okay. ^_^

I read the first chapter of it today and heard how all those martyrs died *shudders* but I know that they wouldn't have done it if they didn't think that what they believed in was the truth you know?

[quote="Kokoro Daisuke"] ^_^]
I totally agree with Koko. ^___^ What worries me if you are striving to be like Christ, without the perfect nature of Christ, is that when others trying the same thing fall short, how they will be perceived when they blow it. Because frankly, you're gonna blow it. No one can truly always be like Christ.

Thus, I feel badly for those who fall short and feel less because they do fall short. Some people are naturally better at doing the right thing than others. For we all have different functions in the body and some are more apparent than others (Read all of Romans 12). Also, some grow a little slower than others.

"Now, may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Rom. 15:13 (NASB)

I hope you all the best at doing what Jesus does. ^___^ I've been trying for a very long time, and probably will for another 40 years, Lord willing. (Ack, I hate always sounding so old -__-;;;; )

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.
