Football: College or Pro and favorite team

for anyone who watches football, do you prefer college or pro? In my personal opinion i prefer pro b/c college tends to be way lopsided for the most part. I'm not saying i hate it, b/c i like to watch it as well. My favorite team is the Dallas Cowboys; given i live in texas

. A true fan through and through.

What are your thoughts? I would like to know.

I prefer Pro...college is just....eh boring to me. As for my team...I bleed silver and black. Raiders fan here.

For strategy and talent, I enjoy the pros. For heart and excitement, I prefer the college games. I like Penn State, but I'll root for any team that's not Miami, Florida State, or Florida. My recently adopted Alma Mater is UNC, but they haven't been good since Mack Brown left for Texas. I always like to see Notre Dame win. In the pros, I go for a bunch of teams, mostly based on where I've lived: Steelers, Seahawks, Redskins, Panthers.

I'm the exact opposite...pro is boring to me. It's all about the bling-bling and the gazillion dollar contracts and dancing in the end zone. That takes the fun out of it. College football is all about the rivalries. And the under the table bribery.

Ah, the football season. It's the most wonderful time of the year...

As for me, I'm down for the Georgia Bulldogs. I was indoctrinated from birth to be a dawg fan. It would take severe reeducation and beatings to get me to think otherwise.

My favorite teams (all sports, college or pro) are the ones with the coolest logos. Michigan Wolverines (my favorite X-man)

Panthers

Isn't Warren Sap on the Raiders now?
College is okay, though the one college team i can't stand is LSU..errr.. My friends go there and i've learned they're the most loud mouth in your face fans. Even when they loose. It makes me so happy when i see them loose.

And i also wish college had instant replay, b/c there are some bogus calls at times.

for college, GO CLEMSON TIGERS!!! The only team that matters to me, and this year they suck. They should fire Tommy Bowden. Other college teams I care about:
Purdue
Oklahoma

Pro: My favorite team is the Tennesee Titans, followed by the Oakland Raiders, then the Carolina Panthers.

Yes, I'm a die-hard college fan, I don't really care for pro. But, being that there were no pro teams around this area until a few years ago, that shouldn't be surprising.

Me? I'm a die-hard N.C. State fan. My dad went to college there.

I love both the college and pro games.My favorite college teams are
the University of Washington Huskies,Washington State Cougars and
Iowa Hawkeyes.
My favorite pro teams are the Vikings(life long fan since Fran Tarkenton
was QB)and Seahawks.

Well, I guess I SHOULD be a fan of college: my mother is a rabid UT fan and I go to school at the University of Houston...but frankly, I'm with Shatterheart...college isn't that fun, and well...it's hard to get excited about college football when your college is on a losing streak. We've had, count 'em, ZERO victories since we started this season.

But I do love watching pro, although I've only been following it 3 years now. The Oakland Raiders are one of my favorite teams---I started my football days watching them so I have a soft spot for them for sure, although the Texans can't be ignored either since well, they ARE my home team. They're young, getting better, and Carr is hot. What more can be said? (for the record, Houston should never ever ever play Oakland again. Ever.)

University of Houston huh? Well Texas State doesn't have a much better team, to be honest, i don't even know our record. But if i had to pick a college team i would pick UT; i just don't like their fans

. But i hear by my senior year (2007) Texas State may be playing UT in football. I hope they do. But like i said earlier, i'm not much into college sports. The Texans are surprising me this year, 2-2 record, not bad for a new team. And Ashley, for some reason i can't see you as a Raiders Fan, seems kind of out of place

*laughs* Me? In California? Oh no. I'm a born and raised Houstonian; been here 15 years now (spent 2 in Washington). There's a story as to why I'm a Raiders fan, though.

See, a few years back I started to become rather good friends with a certain guy administrator here *cough Shatterheart cough* and he's really into football. I don't even remember how it happened, but somehow we started watching the sunday night football games together: basically me asking "hey what just happened?" and he'd explain such and such rules or whatever, teaching me the game and how it works. Since HIS favorite team is the Raiders, they are the ones I grew to love to watch. They are aggressive and edgy, or at least they were more so when I first started watching them--incidentally that was the year they went all the way and faced off against Tampa Bay in the superbowl. So that's why I'm an Oakland fan--it started off just being a team of convienience, but I really do enjoy watching some of the players I've been following for years like Rice and Gannon.

I'm a Texans fan again simply because I live in Houston and it's nice to cheer for a home team.

High School. There's nothing like a community getting together to support their tem under the lights on a cool, crisp Friday night.Plus, most of the HS levels are untainted by recruiting, money, etc. You take the players you get at your school and you build them into a team. I follow HS football across the state of IL, but mainly in my area, and my old HS Pontiac is, of course, my favorite team

College and pro are fun to watch though too. I get into the college bowl games quite a bit. My pro team, the Chicago Bears, has been struggling for so long that I don't get into it as much anymore. My favorite college team is my alma mater, DIII non-scholarship Illinois Wesleyan University.

I condsider football my favorite sport to watch because I can get into just about any football game at any level, either live or on TV. It's just a great sport.

I see. So that's why your a raiders fan. That makes sense. To bad he wasn't a Dallas fan, we need more of them

. But that cool, the Raiders aren't bad (though they lost to Houston

) and they seem to have a strong fan following. But all-in-all i'm more of a NFC type of guy over the AFC. The games seem to have more energy and seem funner to watch. But I'm not going to bash all of the AFC, i do like a couple teams like the Texans.

Considering I follow a whopping 2 teams in the entire country, I don't know enough about either division to see if I have a favorite or to make a comparison like that. To me, a football game itself is rather exciting no matter who is playing, but all the better if it's a team I like/loathe (for example, I really dislike the Broncos and the Patriots, so I tend to cheer for whoever's against them).

Ironically enough, I've only played in one football game ever--it was my high school's PowderPuff game junior year, and I ended up tearing the ACL (ligament in your knee) in my left leg the first night of practice. O.o

I totally dislike the patriots as well. Actually the few AFC's teams i like are: The Colt and the Texans. At least we have one thing in common

. But that has got to suck, tearing your ACL, OUCH! I remember popping my leg out of joint in wrestling, that hurt as well. But probably not as bad as an ACL. Good thing i got it back in place.

Eh, my ACL acts up occasionally and it hurts when it rains sometimes, but it was worth it for the football game. We had a blast and it's probably the one chance I'll ever have at playing "real" football. (besides, my ankles are already messed up from playing tennis as long as I did)

The Colts aren't bad---Payton Manning is a great quarterback to watch. So yeah, I'm ok with Indy too, I just don't follow them.

coolness. I have to pop my hip back in place about once every 3 months, but all i have to do is stand up straight and it's fixed. It used to be everyday then gradually getting better. So hopely soon it wont do it.

Though it probably not as bad as a teared ACL, i couldn't imagine that. Is that going to be a life time injury?

THough i will agree nothing is better than acually playing "real" football, i loved playing it in school.

Yup, it's a lifetime thing. But hopefully I'll marry some football loving guy and he'll think it's really really cool. :grin:

Wanna hear something funny? Before my art history class this morning, I was reading a mini-copy of Sports Illustrated that came with the morning paper. This guy was like, "whoa! A girl reading sports illustrated?!"
I chuckled and made mention of the fact that while I couldn't care less about basketball, baseball, golf or soccer, I did love football. I thought his eyes were going to pop out of his head.

On that note, I also like playing football games--though I do get a little physical, eh Shatterheart?

I can see why, i've never seen a girl read anything related to sports. It's nice to see a girl take interest in football, i've only seen that in Wisconsin when i go and visit family (b/c it's greenbay territory). If only more women were football loving fans. If only....
I loved playing football in school, my position was left tight end, and at times wide receiver. Bring on the REVERSE! The good old days....

Well, we don't exactly go out and have a game together, but we have played against each other in the ESPN football game...and that has resulted in hoodies being thrown, knees and shoulders punched...that sort of thing.

I was watching a bit of the Minnesota vs. Michigan game today before
coming on.It looked like the Gophers were going to win,but looked like in the end the Wolverines pulled it out. :shady:

The one thing I miss about the Seahawks not being in the AFC is the
big rivlary that they had with Oakland.We loved to hate the Raiders
up here.

Well, Pro football is someone boring to me for some reason.

I will only watch pro football game when the Volts are on tv and other then that, that is it.

I'm a college football and high school football fan.

I go to a GA high school football game a week with my dad and we have a good time together.

For college teams.

I'm a Tennessee Vols fan. Since my dad and mom were both from Tennessee and I don't have a choose on how I can pull for. :lol:

But other college teams that I pull for or watch is.

Washington Huskies.
Hawaii
Air Force
New Mexico Lobos
Georgia Tech
Georgia Southern

Since my dad was in the army, we both keep up with them. We are more Air Force fans, since we know or have friends that went to Air Force, but when Army plays Navy.

It's hilarious hearing anyone say they have "a soft spot" for the Oakland Raiders. That's like me saying I have a soft spot for Darth Vader (which is a common costume among the 'Black Hole' faithful btw).

I am a Bronco fan, and as far as rivalries go Ash, at least you know what teams you ought to hate as a Raiders fan (the Broncos, and I guess to a lesser extent the Chiefs and the Chargers). But wow, you actually root against the Broncos huh? I don't take the typical Bronco fan approach toward the Raiders (i.e. rooting aginst them every chance I get), I never root against a team when it comes to football, although I have been known to root against the Yankees. Drop me a PM with your MSN ID so we can talk some more football some time, I could see some interesting conversations coming from said rivalry. Shatterheart too, if you're reading this. How dare you turn a sweet girl like Ashley into a Raiders fan!

How about those Detroit Lions? They knocked off the 'undefeated' Atlanta Falcons last week, and have been squeaking out wins with their opportunistic defense. They now stand at 3-1.

By comparison, here's a look around the league at the teams that have been mentioned so far on this thread:

I would have to agree, who would have thought they would have a good season (as of so far)? It was long over due. Colts are also one of the other AFC teams i like. To bad about the packers, that's a major upset. I figured they would have a good start. ANd the rest of their season doesn't look good. I hope they can turn it around.

As for being a college fan, I guess it's time for you to become a fan of A&M then

I would hope my kids don't become aggies.... JK, academically they have a good school. I don't know anything about our team Texas State. I heard they may be brought into a 1A status in the near future. Speculation has it we may be playing UT by 2007..... And they may bring back the SW conference putting UT in there as well. But this is all speculation, not a fact. But that would be cool. If that does happen, we're going to get creamed against all the big 10 and big 12 teams... :shady:
