Dancing!

Postby Galant » Thu Sep 30, 2004 11:48 am

Does anyone here dance? If so, what style, where/when did you learn, to what level? Do you get to dance often?

Myself, I had the wonderful opportunity to learn Waltz, rumba, salsa, cha-cha, EC swing.

Would have to say the waltz and salsa are my favourites.

For level, I was following the dvida syllabus, up to bronze. Fortuntately I got to learn it all for free because I work at a radio station and they trade with us!

Haven't danced in a while, but I was just thinking what a great thing it would be for people of this forum to maybe meet for a big event like a dinner and a ball.

I figure most anime fans are romantics in one way or another and so it might go down better with you guys than a regular youth group. Dress it up too.

As for me, it's more like freestyling and making a fool of myself than dancing :P I like the river dancing stuff too. That and breakdancing are the two best forms of fine art ever!

Dancing is fun. I enjoy it a lot. Unfortunately the only experience I have is one class of swing dance, but that was still extremely informative.

I want to learn how to Salsa. I like dancing, but I don't because I don't know how. Salsa is cool though. I once went to a banquet where there was dancing afterwards and I refused to dance until there was salsa music playing.

I took ballet and tap in kindergarten, but that's it. I got bored so I stopped.

I'm am the worst dancer in the world, thus i don't dance. The only one i can do is the 2 step slow dance, and that i mess up. I always step on the girls foot :( . And dancing feels so unnatural to me, i wonder why, is it a guy thing?

haha, i know what you mean. My dancing is more robotic than anything :) . I wonder how it would look if we were both dancing on a dance floor, probably like 2 crazy people; one doing the robot and the other jumping and falling. I need to start practicing. Perhaps i can't dance b/c i hardly ever went to my school dances in the past.
--Oh and i alway though Irish Step dancing looked kinda cool, and the music is caughty. Also Swing is cool to watch, but it looks hard to do. :thumb:

SWING!! Oh, swing is so fun! I absolutely love to swing. I only get an opportunity to do it a handful of times a year, though.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

What, like when you were four and she dressed you up in that goof super man costume and put that tu-tu on your head and made you do the macarana?

Oh, wait, you didn't want anyone knowing about that one, did you? My bad. ;)

You can dance if you want to.
You can leave my friends behind.
Because, my friends can't dance, and since they can't dance, well they're no friends of yours.

Swing looks IMPOSSIBLE!!

I actually found it to not be that difficult. Even some of the most impossible-looking moves are quite easy to learn (albeit you'll have to practice them a few times). If you take some time to learn the basic footwork, then the rest of it becomes easier. I will qualify this by saying that I had excellent teachers, so...

Swing is my personal favourite, though I always go to the clubs that have the lessons beforehand because I don't go often enough to remember all the steps.

I wanted to learn Irish stepdancing. About the only remotely dance-related thing I do know are a bunch of french folk dances that we did in French for the past two years... my classes favorite was the Haitian Contra Dance...good times. That and the duck dance... that is the best dance ever!

I see.... Maybe i shall look into that. Do many of the moves use momentum for the most part? But knowing me, I'll probably try a move and drop the woman, that wouldn't be any good.

DDR, i am so bad at that it's not even funny. I set it on the slowest beats and still miss most of them. Then after awhile i get frustrated and try to only hit the down arrows. I need some help :( My friends are so good at that game, but i don't want to spend 5 hrs a day to get good. I play DDR about once every 6months :). But it's really fun to do that once in awhile and just hang out.

My parents both love dancing and they have been trying to promote dancing to me for years. Ah, what am I going to do with my crazy parents? haha ^__^ But I'm sincerely happy to see them enjoying this activity. I'll eventually relent one day when I find the time and partner. ^__^

I've done the cha cha, rock, line dancing and can pull off some waltz. However, I love watching ppl do the jive and the quickstep (the little hop-hop-hop move is so darn cute! XD)

I really enjoy listening to swing music and watching others dance to it, but I'm afraid there's a very good chance I would injure myself if I did it.
