I have an idea how we can all talk voice to voice!

Talk about anything in here.

I have an idea how we can all talk voice to voice!

Postby Link Antilles » Sat Sep 18, 2004 10:50 am

I thought this would be a cool thing to try out and I wanted to see if any of ya’ll are interested to try this out, too. If we can get this to work, we can talk to each other over a mic. from computer to computer with up to four people in each chat room.

All right, what you need is:

1. A fair Linux, Mac, or Windows based computer.

2. Speakers

3. Microphone

4. Internet Connection (Broadband is preferred)

Finally you need to download this spiffy little program called "Skype" and it's Free. I like Free, don't you? Anyways, then you need to register, which is free, of course. Now, the thing that costs money is the Computer to Phone, but the Computer to Computer is free and what we're doing.

Here's the link:

http://www.skype.com/

And it works on Windows, Mac, and Linux! ^_^

Anyways, it’s kinda’ like MSN, AIM, and all those, except you speak and not type (though, you can send IMs through this program.)

Here's the system requirements for Windows:

-PC running Windows 2000 or XP
- 400 MHz processor
- 128 MB RAM
- 10 MB free disk space on your hard drive
- Sound Card, speakers and microphone
- Internet Connection (either dial-up: minimum 33.6 Kbps modem, or any
broadband: cable, DSL, etc.)

I’ve got to go dig through my closest for my headset…. I’ll check back later today to see who’s interested.

Btw, My screenname on Skype is: link_antilles

Post your screennames when your ready, so we all can get to chatting. ^_^

Question, when you "call" someone, is it comp to comp, or comp to phone, how can you tell??

Cut out the spamming.

Thanks for the URL, Link, but alas this is no good for those of us behind firewalls. Skype doesn't seem to understand SOCKS or standard HTTP proxies (only HTTPS).
