School Water... CLEAN or NOT CLEAN?!?!?

Talk about anything in here.

Postby LorentzForce » Fri Sep 10, 2004 3:21 am

There's water crisis in Australia, but it's the amount of water that's the problem (currently going through a drought) and not the quality. Our water's fine; my science teacher warns us not to wash our hands in the taps, even if it's crystal clear, only because the stainless taps are old. Like 30 years old.

The taps are clean too. Only thing unclean around here is the local river... which is green. Most likely because it's full of algae...

At my school, the water in the old wing of our school has an odd sort of taste, and if you fill up a bottle with it, it has odd little white things floating in it. :eh: Makes you wonder if they actually check to see if the water is healthy to drink. Oh, one more thing. A friend of mine also told me that he saw a janitor unclogging a water fouintain with a plunger.

I suppose that might explain the little white things floating in it.

The water at my (and LB's, Shatterheart's, and Zilch's) old school used to taste like blood. I know it had nothing to do with it, but the fountain being directly beside the giant fish tank was never reassuring either ... but maybe it was just me. I'm ultra-fussy about my water.

At my high school the water was warm and tasted strongly of chlorine and often it was yellowish to brown unless you let it run for a while before drinking (it also cooled off if you let it run). Home was a well.... very nice... we had excess E. coli and had to bleach it, but there is always E. coli in it and it's a symbiote anyway so no biggy. The best fountain water back home was definately from the church water fountain.

Here it's totally chlorinated so we smuggle it out of the cafeteria in nalgene bottles. The allure of bottled water is the mentalality of "this is special water ... it can't have bad things in it!"

They put stuff in our water to make it taste better but it only makes it worse. I always bring my own water bottle because ours takes discusting. Except for the water in the locker room.. but maybe its just that anything tastes good after runninng 5-7 miles. ^^;;;

Somehow watching people numerous times having make-out sesions with the water fountain never did much for my trust in them either....

I mean, for gosh sakes people, there is no law that says you are required smooch with the fountain to get enough water. There's plenty for everybody.

Er... I think my school water is... filtered, perhaps. But I really wouldn't know. I don't trust our school's administration enough. Bottled water is for me. : )
