Off to the Beach

The seminary is taking a trip to the Oregon coast for the weekend, so I'll be having fun and getting hypothermia in the rainy, cold, Oregon ocean. Could there be a worse time and place to go to the beach?

Y'know, I've often wondered the same thing myself...it's bizarre this society we live in, isn't it?

Unfortunately the visibility on the Oregon coast is something like 200'. There were no scantilly clad women because it was a private beach owned by the boyscout camp that we rented, and because we're a Catholic Seminary. Of course we couldn't swim either because that was a liability for the boyscouts. The first night they didn't unlock the lodge until 7, so we didn't eat until 9, and we had to sleep on the floor or in our cars. It wasn't so bad after the first night because we got into some cabins, found the showers and started a bonfire on the beach.

It was mildly funny though, the old lodge where we were until they unlocked the new one was called the "Commie Shack" and there was a sign isnside that said "Vi et Consilio," but when you first look it looks like "Viet Con!"

Yeah, I'd like to see some pictures too!! I have a friend who lives in Oregon and she was always bragging bout how beautiful it is, so I'd love to see if she'd right or not. And on another note...I'd take the beach in Oregon any day over the ones in India. There they are used as a public toilet... well, excpet for the ones In Goa...but Goa is a vacation spot and stuff, so... And you could have been IN Grenada...oh wait, I forgot. There isn't any Grenada anymore...just kidding!! He he he... No really, I do honestly feel for all the people who've gotten their homes destroyed and stuff. That would be horrible!! I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

The scenary is nice, but when you look at the beach close up, it's kind of gross. The foam is a disgusting green color, dead seagulls and crabs everywhere, and other gross stuff. I didn't bring a camera, but I'll see what I can do.

I hope you're having fun otherwise. In my experience though, a lot of natural beaches are like that, since all sorts of flotsam and jetsam tends to fetch up on shore. I suppose I'm used to seeing it though.

But on the plus side..crab bake!

Nope, no crab bake. All the crabs on the beach were dead hollowed carcasses. We have tried to catch live ones before, but only come back with one or two, and we had samoans with us! Our most successful attempt was our first year, we came back with a couple of buckets full.

I have never been to the west coast. But some of my fondest memories at a beach were on the Atlantic Coast. I loved adventuring the sandbars when the tide was out.

We used to find ‘Our’ hermit crab and bring them back in to have races on the beach!!!

*sigh* It was soooooooooooo much fun.

I don’t think I have been to the ocean for nearly a decade now.
But I hope to one day bring my children.

The best part was the bonfire, which we were taking bets on which side would collapse first. We were surprised by how long it held out.
