THE AMAZING RACE Sign-Up Sheet

Postby Godly Paladin » Tue Sep 07, 2004 11:32 am

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the AMAZING RACE! This is where you sign up if you want to participate in this contest.

What it is: A contest in which I post, at random and secret times, a country. That's it. The name of a country. The participants, who will be checking often to see if there's a new country out, will post a single fact about that country. (And, if you can, give a link to your information so we know it's correct.) The last person to check in with a fact is eliminated from that round. The last one standing wins!

I've seen this sort of thing on other forums, so I thought I'd do it here. Yes, there is a prize: Sam*ron has been so kind as to forge a sig pic for the winner to use. A big thank you to Sam*ron!

So if you want to play, then sign up! The competition begins on September 14th! Goooooood luck!

Sounds like fun...I'll play  .

However, I think you should either make posting a link to verify the fact a strict requirement, or drop it altogether (at least until the final round, when confirmation of the winner would be needed). If you go with the former, it will slow things down; and if you go with latter things will be more fast-paced, but it might be necessary to verify facts from time to time.

In any case, it's your contest, so you make the rules (but this one requires a bit of clarification).

The reason I make a link optional is that it depends on where you get your information. If it's from the WWW, post a link.

Sounds good. I'm in.

If you post nothing are you automatically disqualified. I mean, how would you choose who was the slowest if 5 people didn't post anything.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Hey! I like that show!
But its on at around 10pm now, so I have to tape it. (other wise Im way to tired the next day...)

Oh, this isnt a thread about the show "The Amazing Race?"

Well, sign me up anyway, Im sure I will be out quick though. :( Im not on the internet enough to check all the time.

You know, this kind of reminds me of the time I waited in line for 3 hours to get Ice Cream on a hot summer day, and when I got to the end, his guy in a uniform said. "This aint no stink'n line for ice cream Boy!" "This here is the line to sign up for the United Sates of America Army!!!"
Every one was staring at me.
Woah! My mistake! But I didnt want to feel stupid, so I acted real cool and signed up.
Depend on it. God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply. He is too wise a God to frustrate His purposes for lack of funds, and He can just as easily supply them ahead of time as afterwards, and He much prefers doing so.
- J. Hudson Taylor
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times." It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach. He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

The terrifying moldy bread incident! In elementary school, Yomi's leftover bread started rotting inside her desk! you can't imagine what happened! Not only that, but the mold had a will of its own, it was terrible! Barricading ourselves in the science prep room, we used spirit lamps and engaged in combat! Then I realized it!! If we only had the bottle of mildew remover from the bathroom, we could destroy them!!
