Cats and Anime: Related?

Postby Momus » Mon Sep 06, 2004 9:16 am

Just wondering, it seems that as I look around cats abound. Everywhere anime I see, cats be. I am befuddled and muddled in this crazy conodrum, what do cats have to do with Lum(and others). Please help me understand, why do anime likers have cats, or cat owners like anime.

Japanese are obsessed with all things kawaii, and let's face it, Kats, erm cats are better at it than dogs. :D That's why you'll see things like chibi space bunnies and mice as opposed to, say....rhinos and 3-toed sloths.
Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.

yea i noticed that too. i dunno y..it always seems like theres a stray cat around in anime i guess its just like that in japan. i heard something about the stray cats being hard to go up to (like in azumanga :P)cuz they dont trust people anymore cuz kids mess w/ them and people throw them out and stuff so maybe theres just an overwhelming amount of stray cats opposed to dogs. more people have cats than dogs cuz theyre easy to take care of so maybe thats y.

Cats cats cats. I like cats.

Stray cats are everywhere, and they may be more common than stray dogs. You should see the Colosseum in Rome. There's hundreds of stray cats!

I don't know. I guess to work in anime (and to watch it) you have to be kind of introverted. If you have a dog, which wants attention all the time, you don't have much time to yourself, as opposed to cats which are pretty much introverted as well. This being the case, I suppose that's why cats are fairly prevalent in anime, it's kind of like a sort of familiarity, I guess. Plus in instances like, say, Sailor Moon or Trigun, cats are smaller and easier to hide for whatever reason, be it for official Senshi business or a pointless cameo.

-cats are not in all anime, nor are all cat lovers people who enjoy animation (Japanese or otherwise)- I believe that you are mistaken (no offense intended) -in some of the circumstances you have mentioned it is only mere coincidence that there are cats present.

...also, human beings need not be the only animated things, right?
-that would be a bit boring...

you're talking about Maneki Neko the lucky calico/tri-colored cat of folklore.

Actually, that's a joke- literally.
-cats are often used as "running gags" so to speak

a good example of this would be: Trigun -Kuroneko is there to be cute and funny

black [and different colored] cats appear in other titles as well
-pretty much that is their purpose- to be something cute in the background
(you can see another kuroneko in the Chobits manga)

I will say that cats are a more fascinating breed of animal than dogs. Dogs are cool, but it's something about cats...they're almost like people in the way they behave :stressed:...

But I always wondered about that as well. I always wondered why bad guys prefered cats and good guys prefered dogs too :stressed: (well at least that's the case in American cartoons).

Because most American cartoons are dull and cliche and anime rocks.

Like in Inspector Gadget. :)

Cats and other felines are associated with sneakiness sometimes. Plus they have sharp claws and that makes them scary. :P Dogs are sometimes associated with loyalty and being friendly.

Lol, that's funny bcuz that's the cartoon I had in mind when I said that :P

Yeah I kinda figured that, but some cats are nice and some dogs are mean :stressed: But I guess they're going by stereotypes :eyeroll:

*thinking...thinking...thought* I just thought about that Tokyo Pig show (which I have seen only twice) with the lady with the evil pig. That's funny...an evil piggy
