In response to Shoobie's pic, I'm not sure whether I should laugh or be annoyed. Oh the woes of having a commonplace name....
You know, this reminds me. My brother named his guitar "Ash" , and silly me, I thought it was after yours truly. Nope. Ashton Kutcher. :sigh:

a revolver is just as easy to fire as an auto if you **** the hammer before you pull the trigger DA (double action). the only difficult part to fireing a revolver is its long trigger pull and the need to compensate for the cylender tourque, but thats only if fired as a SA (single action).
plus the recoil is greater too but you get used to it.

This forum has some problems... I lost everything I was typing AGAIN...

In any case.

I would rather own a sword because they are classier and I won't get called a gun nut. Not that I think guns are evil (both are used to kill) but I would rather stay out of that argument...

As long as I don't own a gun, I can stay on neutral ground.

at least revolvers don't break down easily like other 'advanced' guns. the design is so simple that it's so easier to maintain. and it's very accurate too. and rigid.

it's not like DE where you have to make sure you don't pull back like a revolver. DE loses it's timing sequence and is prone to jam if you pull the gun after shooting, so it's worse in terms of shooting things. because of that, it'll break your arms. especially the .50 AE one.

anyway, revolvers are good. too bad their reloading system isn't so nice and can't get so many bullets at a time, but it's rigidness and accuracy shades the bad parts away.

i'd rather a Colt Python over Desert Eagle.

the coolest revolver ive ever heard of is one that was made to recock from the recoil. so it was basicly like fireing an auto with the reliability of a revolver.

Hmm, I've never encountered any of that happening unless it's my internet connection itself. I use a DSL connection and IE at work, and a 56k and msn at home.

I know that you've mentioned this at least twice before, but how often does this happen?

I wonder if he's using something some special kind of dial-up client that closes windows if he loses the connection (AOL being a notorious example).

I'm on DSL but the problem I'm reffering to is if you "back" or "forward" into a page that had a text entry box, it says "This page has expired" and its' only on this forum... I use others where that is not a problem.

See, I tend to back up in the middle of my postings so I can rearead some people's posts to respond to, and then I go forward to my posting again. On other forums it's been no problem, but as soon as I back out of it in this one, I can't reenter the post because it erases my words... It wouldn't be that bad, but it's just that I do it out of habbit and without thinking I end up losing posts I may have worked on for as much as an hour (it's happened before I've worked on posts for longer than that)

That's generated by Internet Explorer if it can't/isn't allowed to refetch POST-form type pages. I'm not a Windows user typically, but you might take a look at your cache settings (Netscape and other Mozilla-type browsers will do something like this too if the cache settings are too restrictive).

Oh, I got ya. If that's the case then I recommend that you open a new browser window to pan around in, while keeping your post underneath. Also, if you're posting on a thread with more than one page and you want to see the entries on the first few pages, just go down to the bottom and hit the "click here to review the whole thread." That should open the first page of the thread in a new window.

You could also type your post in Notepad (saving as you go), then copy & paste into the browser. That's what I sometimes do with my longer posts.

well I would say both swords and guns are cool because of how much imagination you could put into them. But to me ultimately you could put more imagination into swords than guns ( unless it's Wolfwood's cross gun from Trigun, you can't get more imaginative than that)

for example the gun blade from Final Fantasy 8

another example is one that one of my friends made for me, they were 2 swords that turned to a double bladed staff, which in turn can turn into a bow.

With swords I assume that it includes the basic "hand to hand" weapons such as staves, spears, and what nots, then yes, I vote for swords. I'm a big martial arts buff, so I'm biased.

What about using a gun as a melee weapon? That takes skill and/or style.

A gun as a melee weapon? you mean like bayonets or like the marching band color guards rifle techniques? (joke on the latter one). Sure, bayonets are basically spears (in techniques), but modern combat doctrine doesn't emphasize bayonets anymore (which is unfortunate).

Now if you're saying simplying using guns as is, like a rifle as a bat, or a pistol as a brass knuckle, that works too. However, the gun isn't meant to do that, and it would put you at a severe disadvantage (being unbalanced, some made of composite materials not meant to stand a sword or mace blow, etc). So, it's more luck than skill, or skill in an unarmed martial arts as you use the guns as a componet, because you can't really effectively create any advanced skills that would allow you to fight on an ancient battlefield and survive. So all in all, the skill comes from a HTH martial arts, rather from a specifically HTH gun skill itself (like Kendo, or Florentine).

on top of that you don't want to hit somebody and the guns loaded and you are holding the barrel. The might shoot off by accident and well.... you get the picture.

the bayonet will never go away because the infantry man will always need a knife, and if your going to tote a knife every where why not make it clip on the end of a rifle too, just incase. :thumb:

Well, think of it this way. Most M-16s and a fair amount of AKs have grenade launchers under the barrel. The bayonet would block it. A regular knife is more practical. Great for a silent attack.

Yeah, I agree, the knife will always be around, but the bayonet has already pretty much become obsolete. The modern combat soldier carries hundreds of ammunition that they'll endup being resupplied or incapacitated before they use every last shot. In addition, the (American) armed forces are supported by armor and air support, so they probably don't even have to fire a shot. This is partially due to the fact that we are using the "1 shot 1 kill," instead of "spray and pray."

Indeed, prayer is the ultimate weapon :)

What's your favorite sword model Sangoku?

I like twin-edge flexibe straight (Not broad). Katana's are great, but they're to heavy for my taste and you only get one edge.

I like the straight swords as well, as I'm fond of the Chinese two sword techniques. I'm a former Kendo student, and I can relate to the Katana being a heavy weapon, our sensei let us hold one to get a good feel. I like Katanas, though they are a far cry from the invincible blades that are described in anime or movies.

Other than that, I like the rapier and sabre, both of which are light and 1 handed, so you can carry a shield or another blade.

To quote Mel, the best defense is a good offense. It just depends...

But this is the case with reality and games, so I don't know which side to quote, actually...

Yeah, it does depend on the situation, and the fighting style. For example, my sensei tells us to be constantly on the offensive, so that the opponet doesn't have a chance to attack back. With a shield though, you can still use it to bash and rush an opponet. The best way to win over some one is when they are on the ground, and getting tackled with a shield rush is the perfect way to do that. :)

<I'm fond of the Chinese two sword techniques.>

I haven't seen many two sword styles. I know the blades are usually short and light though. I've only taken Tae Kwon Do, but I learn fast and like weapons. I own a 40' inch Bokken and have a good feel for it, but it's still farely heavy to me.
Isn't it: The larger the weapon, the better the defence?

One big advantage that I do see though defensively (or offensively), is range. Typically, the longer (larger) the weapon is, the less training you have to have to defeat one using a shorter ranged weapon, because it means you strike first for the most of the time, and you kinda dictate the pace of the fight. Also, your opponet would have to give it all to try to get inside your "zone," that is harder than it sounds.

A 40 inch bokken? Man, you must be tall!

Haha! I'm only 5'7''. Hmmm, yeah the better range the less experience you need with it. The only problem is that once they get inside your zone:You might as well throw it away.
