I go back to school on August 28. Classes don't start until September 2, but August 28 is move-in day.

When I was just about to go off to college for the first time (last year), I did feel a little scared. After my family left on move-in day, I really missed them. However, it didn't take long to adjust, and now I am looking forward to another year.

Just don't forget what else you could be doing after high school; Then you won't leave school for anything ;) .

You know what? I start college on Monday, and I'm scared too. I'm still struggling with my doubts, my fears, my hopes, my anticipations...what will it be like? What will my classes be like? Will they be difficult? Easier than high school? Did I make the right choice in this school? Lotsa questions, and I'm sure you've got the same ones.

HOWEVER---the Lord knows His plan for both of us. And it's one that, while it may involve change, never involves a failure on the part of the divine. He also promises never to leave us, to never give us more than we can handle, and to finish the good work He began. I cling to those promises in my fear; I know God will get me through, even if it means changing school or my plans for my life, I know He knows best. Take comfort in that, ok?

And from what my mother has said, college is actually much easier than high school. Don't be afraid to change, to take new things and be challenged---if you can't handle it you can always change again or withdrawl. And lastly, pray. Get involved with some of the youth groups on campus, or your church's College and Career group. Don't worry, it will be ok! We'll make it together!

Yes and no. There is a lot less "busy work," with few actual assignments as compared to high school. Unless you are taking a lot of math, most of your work will be reading, with a few papers (maybe only one), midterms, and a final. The fact that there are fewer assignments means that you have to make each one count by doing the best work possible; and in the end, remember that you don't have to be the best, just significantly better than the worst ;) .

College is also easier, because you get to focus on the subjects that interest you. Naturally, you will have an easier time if you enjoy the material.

I don't know if I'd say that my first year was easier in terms of material, but it was all stuff that I mostly interested in(well, except for drafting), and I at least knew that I was there because I wanted to be. However, one of the most important things to know is how to be self-motivating. The profs aren't going to to check your homework every class. You've got to make sure that you do it yourself, and that you stay on top of things. Keep up with the questions or the readings, and make sure that you ask for help if you need it. You can get behind faster than you think, and cramming is a poor substitute for studying.

Interestingly, I'll be a TA for one of the first year undergrad math classes. I don't know yet whether it'll be linear algebra or calculus. It's going to be tough semester since I've also got my own course work to do (convex optimization and finite elements analysis).

PS. Be sure and blow off some steam once and a while. Burnout can be a problem too for some people.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Though high school may seem to have more of a workload than college, the assignments themselves are alot more technical and require further research, analyzing and presenting, but it's all practice for the work world.

If you like to study, can discipline yourself to set aside some time for school work and can be innovative and participate within class discussion you'll make it fine.

For anyone going to school this year I pray that the Lord gives us all the best academic year possible.

I start school next wenesday.

Um, I don't have anything scholarly or intelligent to say right now, but I head back to school on Sunday and I'm excited.

Don't worry about college, to me it's a great experience. I was nervous too about attending college for the first time as well. But now I can't wait to get back so I can see the friends that I made there most of all (and get away from my sometimes irritating family  ) But if you're not hot about it, like cbwing mentioned, there are other options. Don't go to college because you feel "obligated." Go because you yourself want to get something out of it.
