ignorance of youth

when you a little kid, did you ever say something that was rude/hurtful without thinking about it? i remember one time when i was little and at a church outing, i asked someone if they were a boy or a girl. :x i feel bad when i think about it now, though.

and another question - what are things you believed when you were a little kid? i used to believe that heaven was on the biggest cloud i saw and that everything in heaven was white. also, i used to get scared every time i heard a train whistle because they had told us in school that tornados sound like trains. ^^;

I've done everything you have, Nia-chan, I feel your pain.

Let's see...well, I was terrified of the remote control because my daddy would play like he was going to "mute" me or "turn me off".

Once I thought that we were poor because I only had one pair of pants (but that was because Mom hadn't done the laundry...) Hm. Mom said she was "starved" and I thought that she'd been hit by a star. Then, she said "last Sunday" and I thought that the next Sunday would be the last and that the world was going to end...

I'll try to think of some more later.

I also thought that the Easter Bunny was evil...and that my mommy was a tooth-fairy and I was half fairy, so I tried to fly a few times, but it didn't work. *laughs*

When I was a kid, I think I was about 4 or 5, mom said I marched up to the front of the sanctuary after service, grabbed a microphone that was on the nearby chair, and started singing Jesus Loves Me. Too bad I don't have that backbone anymore--I'm a horrible public speaker and the one youth leader no one likes to hear make announcements >.<

Now why is that embarrasing? Because mom has old friends that recognize me by that little american idol experience.

Ok so that wasn't *exactly* on topic, but I thought you guys might get a kick out of it.

just kidding...seriously though, I think we all have said foolish things.

Once, my mom and I were in JC Penney's (this was only a year or so ago), and she had explained seersucker shirts to me as we were looking for one to buy either my dad or grandpa (I forgot which). I pointed out a shirt that had a seersucker design on parts of it, and then a different shirt that had the design all over it, and Mom said, "But aren't they the same shirt?" And I replied, "No, this one has more seersuckers on it."

She never lets me forget it, saying how cute it was and such...:mutter:

Aww.. I wouldnt mind hearing you make announcments. I suck at public speech also, so I feel your pain. :P

On topic, I have done too many stupid things as a kid to remember. And most of them are so painfully embarassing I do not wish to recall them.

But my parents tell me of this one time in kindargarten, there was a sub there who was a mexician lady. (Please note that she spake perfect english)
Anyways, I was misbehaving and wouldnt do anything she told me (why this was found unusual is beond me), So my excuse when they asked me why I didnt do what she told me was "I don't speak spanish.".

When I was a first grader, I was looking at an encyclopedia full of animal pictures/landscapes during "silent reading". My vivid imagination and me started to work together, and I was playing in my mind that I was an animal in one of those landscapes. Little did I know that I was talking out loud about my adventures. The teacher tapped me and said, "We're supposed to be doing SILENT reading, honey." She was smirking though.

I remember saying something like this: "And I swam across the ocean and ate a seal. I was a fierce orca..."

On behalf of my four-year-old cousin, we went to Myrtle Beach and she was running around the hotel naked, swearing (I don't think she knew those were swears) and going "You Dummy! Hehehehe...." and streaking on the balconies...

I said one thing that was reaaaaaaaallly reaaaaaaaaaaaaaally embarrassing such that I'll probably never repeat it to anyone and my mom was the only one that heard it.
And I'm not going to tell you what it was lest I get banned

Anyway some milder embarrassments were when I was perhaps about 8 or 9 years old and I was saying something to my friend about how it was funny that I made friends with so many people who might not have a lot of friends or they would be considered unpopular for some reason. I said something like "take you for example.. you're a redhead and you wear glasses" and hes like "I am not a redhead!" and on closer inspecition of his -- my best firend's hair it was in fact brown. Luckily hes a really nice guy being my best friend and all and did not knock my head off.

Also, in seventh grade I didnt not know that b****** was a bad word and just to be silly I started saying it in all the tenses and conjunctions and all the ways I could think of! I must have said that word like 15 times when the teacher's like "josh I'd like it if you didnt say that" and I'm like "why??" and he said "we dont need to use that kind of language here" and I'm like "what language? thats not a bad word... is it?" so I asked my friends and they were too embarrased to tell me so I said I'd look it up in the dictionary when I got home. I got home and for some reason told my mom about it and I'm sure it was realy hilarious to her.

When I was young and we just moved into our current house, we had a welcoming party. Someone told a joke or something and my mom started laughing. I said, "Mom, you laugh like a girl." Really lame there!

On beliefs, well, I was pretty gullible. My family joked that if you swallowed a watermelon seed, then one would grow in your stomach. It scared me so bad! lol

I read a story once...a kid went up to an overweight woman and asked her when her baby was due.

Oh yeah, when I was 9 I jumped off the top of the school stairs and flapped my arms, trying desperately to fly. Big surprise! ... It didn't work.

Good thing you didn't try to go off the house...

My mom's brother jumped off the house with a sheet as a parachute and got kind of banged up, but I guess that it slowed him down just enough so that he survived. It was a two story house, by the way.

Crazy kid. *laughs*

Oh, yeah, I remember first hearing that Jesus would come as a thief in the night, but I didn't understand that it was only if you weren't ready. I used to think He was actually going to be a thief or something. whoo boy!

I think every kid probably says at least few things that would be considered extremely cruel and/or selfish if they were older. At a young age, kids are still operation on a basic reward/punishment mentality, rather than based on morals, ethics, or well-developed empathy. Unfortunately, I don't really remember anything until around age 5, let alone anything that I might have said. However, I do remember plenty of stupid things that I did when I was younger.

When I was 5, a kid in my kindergarten class stole one of my toys that I had brought from home. I bought another one, but for some reason the quality just wasn't up to the standard of the first. The next year, we were waiting inside to be picked up by our parents (it was a rainy day). He was standing right next to the wall, so I walked up behind him, and slammed his head into it  . Yeah...I could hold a grudge with the best of them (thankfully I have learned the virtue of forgiveness since then  ). The funny thing is, this same kid was my best friend by 5th grade.

I also half-believed that I was in some sort of virtual reality simulation rather than the real world for quite a while. It was almost identical to the concept of "The Matrix," even though this was several years before the movie was released. The primary difference was that I believed that I was some sort of royalty, and that this world (the "fake" world) was created just for me. Go figure...

When I was around 11 or so, I was playing at my best friend's house. Her dad said something about us being ignorant, and I playfully retorted, "You're ignorant!" Of course, I didn't know what ignorant meant... go figure. I had thought he was joking around, anyway. Well a few minutes later, my friend's mother came to me and asked me if I really said that. I told her I did. She made me go apologize to him. :o It's like he was pouting about it and "tattled" on me to his wife. :eyeroll: I remember thinking he was the adult acting like the child. It was so stupid.

I remember playing in my backyard, and pretending that I was a different girl who looked just like the priviliged one who lived in the house, only I had to fend for myself and eat the little berries that grew on the trees out there. I would "live" back behind the trees, and hide whenever an adult came out. The family dog was my only friend.

Umm most of my stories were more mean than embarassing (I wasn't the nicest little kid!)

One thing I remember being little, was when my friends and I believed in that "Bloody Mary" stuff and our version was if you looked in a bathroom mirror, she shows you a rose of a certain colour: white meant you'll be fine, pink meant you'll get hurt, red meant you'll die, and black meant you'll die instantly. My friend said how she knew someone who got the red one and I SO believed her! Freaked me out...

Uhm..wow CB. o.o;;; These are really... uhm... may I say funny? ^^;; So I suppose I'll have to share some... :D

Ok.. Uhhh... I remember when I was.. ok I don't remember how old I was. I don't even remember doing this... r_r; But anyway. Mom had this lipstick that she looooved. It was 'the perfect color' for her. And it was really hard to find. Well, Dad found her one for Christmas, and she was so happy. A few days after Christmas, I supposedly worked my way into her bathroom and decided I needed make up. (Yah.. you know whats coming. At least you think you do.)
So, being the child I was, of course I went for some lipstick first. But somehow the lipstick ended up on more than just my lips. It ended up alllll over me. Everywhere. So then I got a pair of mom's highheeled shoes, and walked around naked except for the lipstick and shoes. Oh! And a necklace of beads I got from her drawer. *sigh* She laughed so much she forgot to be mad. r_r;

Then there was the time I used my paint markers to write my name all over my little brother's back. And then when asked who did it, I said I had no idea. :) And then I came back to my parents about 5 minutes later, crying, saying that it was me.
"It was me! I wrote my name on his back! I'm sorry! I didn't mean it!"

Then there was something that happened a few months ago. *Ish trying to decide if she should put it on here or not* r_r; Ok, Shiroi said it would be okies... so here I go, I'm going to type it script format.

(It's English I class, and we have each been assigned a report on a Greek god/goddess. Kristen had Poseidon...)
Kristen: "So.. Poseidon was known to attack and uh... take advantage of young women. Then they would make him turn them into men so it wouldn't happen again. *goes to next slide* He also had a son who was half fish."

(please take into account that I was really tired, and the lights were off, so I was fighting to stay awake. That didn't help my concentration or thinking.)

Me: "Huh? So he took advantage of girl fish too?"
>insert 10 seconds of silence as everyone stares at me<
Everyone: *bursts into laughter*
>two minutes later<
Everyone: *still laughing*
Me: o_o...... <--doesn't get whats funny.(not to mention doesn't realize what she said u_u; )
>principal walks in<
Pricipal Davis: Mrs Ransom, why are you all laughing? What is going on?
Mrs Ransom: I.. she... Poseidon.... *attempts to breathe*
Principal: *raises eyebrow*
Me: What.. did I do?
Kami: *leans over and pats my arm* It's.. it's ok... *breathes* ... Dont... worry....
Me: *watches everyone gasp for breathe* ..... ::has no idea whats going on::

Yah, that happened. I was told about it afterwards. *sigh* Sorry its so long. Hope you laughed. :D

Oh gosh...

Once I saw this um not-so-nice gesture on television but it looked something like a punch and I thought it was cool. Next thing you know, I'm at school doing this gesture to people particularly when they say something silly (but in a jokingly fashion). I used it like a "hey snap out of it" thing. I should have known something was wrong about that when I got over-reactions from everyone that saw me do it, reactions like "aw man, she did THAT to you?!" I was also doing it in I won't mention where else :red:

Finally I was told by a grown-up the cold hard truth about my little "punch" and I felt SOOOOOOOOO embarassed and ashamed :red: :waah!: :bang: I mean, obviously I didn't know what I was doing because that just wasn't me! WHY WASN'T I TOLD EARLIER!?!? :mutter: I begged God for forgiveness for days :waah!:

What makes it more embarassing is that I was about 6...teen :shady: Great, now I'm experiencing bad memories again...gosh I hate myself...:bang:

I have many that would not be... advisable to explain. However about until 6th grade I had a back brace and when I was about seven he told me that if I didn't wear that backbrace, my back would turn into.... Lard.... I believed him, even though I hadn't the slightest idea lard was...

Also I made fun of my mom one time. She saw a mouse in the sink and went "AHH! AHH! AHHHH!" And jumped back. I mocked her, but she took it well :) (I feel Extremely bad about it now!)

I also tried to steal peanut butter from a mouse trap once.

I was spending the night at my cousins one night and you know how your house makes noises in the night for whatever reasons... well he told me that each night the house shrank and sooner ar later it would get me in my sleep... stupid me I actually believed him too.

Oh! Oh! This'll make everyone laugh...

When I was in about 6th grade, I trudged down to the bus stop 3 blocks away every morning at like, 7 am. Usually I brought a book with me to pass the time. well once, I was standing there waiting with all the other kids in my grade and the kindergarten bus pulled up. I had been late that morning, so I didn't know a bus had already ran, and I was nose deep in my book so I didn't bother looking at the number either (I taught myself to walk and read at the same time). Thus, I stepped on the bus and the driver asked me my name. This got me to look up and I realized I had stepped onto the wrong bus! I had to turn around and go back and worse; not only were the middle school kids laughing so were the kindergartners! O.O
