I don't want a war. I just want the terrorists to give up so that we can leave Iraq to take care of herself. War is bad for everyone, even the terrorists. Even if an enemy dies, there will be someone out there who cared about him/her and will cry for them...I could never kill someone. So I hate war, since I hate killing...

i enjoy "debating" and i hate war... but sadly it must be done... the only thing i dont think we did right about this war is we are fighting like pansies (the gov. not the soldiers) i like Bush. he owns! but he should have just bombed the area... know one in the gov. has the heart to win this war... only to fight with half a heart... not like WW2 at all... vote Bush!!!!!!!!

It's just that some topics can be combustible and such acrimonious debates are not favoured by the admins. Otherwise this place is pretty good.

Personally, I was against the war in Iraq because there was little reason to believe that the weapons in question existed or posed any sort of threat. There was even less reason to take seriously any links between Saddam Hussein and Al-Qaeda. Moreover, there was (and still is IMO) a lack of basic understanding of the requirements of running the country on a political, cultural and economic level. If an adminstration doesn't understand Maslow's hierarchy, it will not be successful. Additionally, there remains an ideological blindness on the part of this war's planners to the actual history and politics of the region.

As an aside however, I did believe that the war in Afghanistan was necessary and supported the invasion there. It is worth noting that the the war in Iraq has also siphoned off badly needed resources for that country.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Read the FAQ... please.

Postby Omega Amen » Thu Jul 29, 2004 9:07 am

One and Only, I suggest that you read the FAQ before you continue posting.

Here is a quote from the "Forum Rules" section.
Forum Rules section in the FAQ wrote:Politics- Political threads and posts will be closed if posted. Politics has nothing to do with Christianity or anime, our two primary topics, and furthermore only causes opportunity for division within our community. In short, there's simply no positive purpose for them here.
I would also suggest that you read the "Do Not Discuss Titles" rules thread, the thread on posting pictures, and any other threads that describes rules of conduct on certain forums in this site (they are usually "sticked" at the top.)

I would not like to see you be... "bummed" for being a little over-excited and not paying attention to the rules.... Furthermore, you were asked to read the FAQ before you registered.

Alright? I am just a helpful member who wants to see you have fun at this site... appropriately.

Then it would not be in your best interest to stay here. If you want to post about political topics, there are other sites for that purpose. This site is not one of them.

Like I said, it was assumed when you registered that you read and understood the rules. I suggest you read the FAQ and decide whether you want to follow them or not. If you do not want to follow them, then the action that would be in your best interest would be to find another site.

It is your call, One and Only. Personally, I do not see these rules as being difficult to follow for anyone, but if you honestly cannot, there are other sites that might be better suited for your taste.

The FAQ can address the reasoning behind policy. You can also contact the staff, the "Forum Leaders," whose usernames are in red or blue with the Private Message system for more information. You can then make your decision on what to do.

As for your "ruffle" attempt, to discuss the validity of superiority of varying martial arts style is completely off-topic for this thread. To be severely off-topic is against forum rules, I intend to follow them.

That is because I am trying to give you a chance, as a member with good intentions, to understand the policies of this site. Frankly, I am surprised this thread has not been closed after your second and third remarks.

At this point, I have to ask this: Are you going to read the FAQ or not?

I have done more than what a regular member has to do in this situation. If you just want to keep this thread alive for just the sake of controversy, then I am not going to entertain you anymore. I have extended my generosity to you as much a member can.

Now, I leave this in the hands of the staff.

*leaves the thread.*

That's because this thread's turned into a thread about explaining the forum rules to you. As for a "utopian" community, no it's not perfect and we don't expect it to be--but the staff has our set of what is and isn't ok to talk about. In the past, debates have ripped our site apart and left a lot of people leaving with deep wounds. That is not something I would support, especially in favor of gaining knowledge (which Solomon says is meaningless anyway). As Omega said, if you don't like the way the site is being run, well there are others out there. As cold as that sounds, we're not going to change our policies (which seem to be working just fine for the most part) because of one complaint. As I said, I know that sounds cold and harsh and I really do want you to be a part of our community here, just within the guidelines. There are tons of things to do and talk about that don't involve sparking up controversy and debate--otherwise this place would not be as big and active as it is.

Now before anyone gets back on topic and this thread explodes, I am going to lock it. If you have any more questions/comments/concerns, OneandOnly, please come PM me or anyone else on staff. We'll be happy to keep talking with you.
