Young Ladies Bible Study: recent news (girls only)

Postby true_noir_chloe » Fri Jul 09, 2004 8:59 pm

Hi gals! :) I know I haven't gotten back with you all as recently as I had hoped. Well, I wanted to have our Bible study in the Bible study section, or a place that Ashley would set aside for us to have a Bible study. I thought having a combination on the Forums, where we get the assignment and then share, with the possibility of meeting in a chat room for all who are able would be best. In that way we could have discussion.

Anyways, I have sent Ashley the three choices of Bible study to look over and approve. I strongly desired to lead a Beth Moore study entitled, "The Beloved Disciple" on the life and ministry of John. I thought it would be easiest and one I'm familiar with, and also cover a great topic on loving one another and growing closer to the Lord, in His grace and knowledge - falling in love with Him in the process. I would ask you all pray for the Lord's will - if it is, it will all work out. ;) And, if it doesn't, then we will know that it is the Lord's will for it not to be.

This is the list again of those who had shown interest. If you would like your name added to this list, or removed, please let me know. Thanks again for all you interest and desire to know the Lord more:

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

some women in my church did that beth moore study. i've only heard good things about it, and since i didn't participate in that study, it would be cool if we could do that one:)

I'm interested, but the only book of hers I own is Jesus the One and Only, I can probably get the book at the library...I would like to try this though. My youth group doesn't do Bible studies or any kind of group meetings during the summer. So let me know when you start and I will try and get the book :)

I guess I should update you guys as well--

Currently the staff and I are exploring the legality of using a Beth Moore study. We'll be in touch with her ministries soon to find out if it's ok to use on our site, or if all of the girls involved need to purchase the book set.

Also, we're not decided totally on the study to choose--a lot goes into it. Things like, topics to be covered and how they fit in with our policies and stances, etc. And the fact we're nondenominational plays a factor as well.

Lastly, we're also discussing how best to manage this--a forum verses a board? Chatroom verses a thread? As well as who will be able to moderate it, etc. Please keep myself and the other staffers in your prayers, and ask that God please provide us the wisdom to make the right choices.

Hmm ic, well each of us buying the book will help anyway right?
Otherwise we could come up with some CAA specific studies that could be very interesting! ^^

Ashley, thank you so much for the update. ^___^ I know I'll be praying for you all as you decide what to do. Also, in a Beth Moore study each would only need to purchase the one workbook, which is $14.95 - at least that's how much it is at this Lifeway Bookstore in my area. And then of course, you would need to add a Bible to that.

Anyways, emoanimechild I added you to our list. I'm glad to see you're interested.

Thanks again, Ashley.

I just wanted to let you know that you are all in my prayers. I have a few questions for Ashley concerning specifics, but I'll address those via PM. Also, just out of sheer curiosity - Who is Beth Moore?

St. Kevin, this is a link to Living Proof Ministries. You can read about Beth Moore and their mission statement there:

http://www.lproof.org/

Beth Moore has been involved in women's ministry for many, many years now, and I've gone through at least 5 or 6 of her Bible studies in various churches, as well as my own. I can understand that many of you have not heard of her, since she deals in Women's ministry, something many of you have never been part of - probably only youth ministry, or for St. Kevin, well... he's a guy. It's funny the circles of women I hang around have pretty much heard of her. Sorry I assumed most of you knew who she was.

That sounds good, but since I'm already doing a bible study with my friends (we meet every other week) do you think it would be okay if I did this one too? Also, IRC might be a good option for the bible study. Its pretty easy to mod on there and its the same type of environment as a chat room.

I'd rather discourage an IRC study because of two reasons. One, we already have a perfectly good chatroom Shooraijin poured more hours than I even want to think of setting up. If you have issues connecting, just PM him--he's always more than happy to help even the most computer illiterate among us. The seond reason is even if we didn't have a place of our own, IRC is a haven for stalkers and hackers.

I'm running away from home, and won't be back until the middle of August, or possibly later if I have anything to do with it.

I don't know when you are planning on starting this, but I may or may not be able to make it. I'll try to make it, but if I can't... Don't bother waiting for me.

Christiangirl on the first page of this thread I placed a link to Beth Moore's web page. Here it is again: http://www.lproof.org/

She is a woman who has written and taught myriads of Bible studies for quite a long time. She is a member of First Baptist Church of Houston, I believe and is heavily involved in teaching to women on how to grow closer to the Lord and study His Word. She doesn't teach Baptist doctrine, only the Bible and has crossed multiple denominational lines just to teach His Word.

I hope that helps a bit. ^___^ PM me if you have any other questions about anything.

Heh. Had to cut the trip short. The missionary family I might be staying with next year in Japan came back to the states early. So, I guess you're stuck with me for now.
