Anime Think-Tank

Postby Fireproof » Fri Jul 09, 2004 3:44 pm

I just made this thread as a place to bounce ideas off of people regarding what you think would make a good anime. It's like a little brainstorming session.
Currently, I'm thinking about two particular ideas...
1. Mecha (Yes, I know that it's overdone, but with some unique traits it could be awesome.)
2. Collectibility (No, not Yu-Gi-Oh type stuff, but an anime about something colelctible that doesn't acutally exist. Like Angelic Layer, or something of that nature.)

I think I would go for a series that's unique to all of anime. Take Wolf's Rain for example: a popular series, that doesn't really resemble any other series. Sort of likewhy YGO! is so popular since it is a battle genre, but also has an Egyption theme to it, where I can't think of any other anime that does. Fantasy/sci-fi stuff is definatly a place to start.

You know, maybe by gathering the favorite ideas from everyoen who posts, we could piece together an anime based on what we like best. *Calls artists for concept sketches later on* Oh no. I don't know any artists. T_T

3. Bishounen (Every good anime has bishounen. EVERY ONE.)
4. Conspiracies (Conspiracies are cool. Way cool.)

ofcourse, it needs a good plot and storyline, something that makes you want to watch the next episode.

it also needs good character development. people need to be able to relate to the characters, and care about what happens to them.

So, here's waht we have so far...
1. Mecha! Mecha are good!
2. Most likely a futuristic setting, probably a bit sci-fi.
3. DEEP plot. Not a simple little thing, but something very complex.
4. Characters your average Joe/Jane can relate to.
5. BISHONEN! At least one leading pretty-boy.
So, I could summarize a possible story like this...
[Name] competes in organized mecha battles with his mecha. As eh inches his way further to the top, he unravels more of a consipracy as he goes. After the truth becoems apparent, he goes off to set things right, but he can't do it alone. He gathers a team, and they strive to defeat the corruption that has nearly taken over the mecha tourneys. Such as, the big bosses sabotaging mehca to get as much of the money from bets as they can. The thing is, [Name] isn't your average good guy. He's a little odd, and not so confident. But he knows right from wrong and wants to fix things when they get messed up.

Hmm, you guys really do NOT want my opinion on this...but oh well, here goes!

1. People with either wolf ears or wolf tails (told you...-.-)
2. Cute, fluffy little animals with BIG tails (don't say I didn't warn you!)
3. Action
4. Adventure
5. Comedy (if it doesn't have anything funny, I don't like it)
6. Suspense

There. I'll bet everyone here knows what a HoS Anime would be like...^^;
Heart of Sword's Rhapsody

Money, get away
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay
And all and all you're just another brick in the wall
Shoutin’ in the street gonna take on the world some day
But Bismallah will not let me go
Because I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Tommy used to work on the docks
Union's been on strike
Bright eyes burning like fire
And exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kids

Who will love a little Sparrow
Who's traveled far and cries for rest
Spare him his life from this monstrosity

I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all
And if the band youre in starts playing different tunes
We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you!

screwed-up characters. nothing makes a show or movie more interesting than characters who are about to friggin' SELF-DESTRUCT. think Akira, Evangelion, Trigun (Million Knives) etc. but you gotta do it right - if you glorify or ignore the characters' problems, it will be stupid. You have to make the problems either A) kill the character or make him/her fail; B) be worked out (through redemption ala Kenshin or help of others).
