How to confuse Wal-mart associates

I was at wal-mart today and i decided to get some computer games (a five pack and they all happened to be M rated, i had just heard a good review of one and thought "why not") anyway i also grabbed a Bible cd for my computer i've been meaning to get one forever. Needless to say the clerk was quite perplexed "Vault of Darkness (the five pack title) and the Bible Collection Deluxe ?" was his exact quote. i could not stop laughing because i was with lynx and we had been commenting on how odd it was about five seconds before. Just a stupid yet funny (to me) story i thought i'd share.

Vault of Darkness, eh? *creepy music plays* Doesn't that Alice game come in that? I remember playing it at my cousin's house a long time back.. it's was rather.. odd and freaky like... (the graphics were great for the time, I must add) then, again I always thought the Alice in the Wonderland was disturbingly odd... I think the guy who wrote it was on drugs or something... anyways..

yeah!!!! that was sooo funny! and then we got carded (cuz of the M rated game policy in wal-mart) and mikas forgot to bring ID, and when he asked her birthday she took so long to answer that even i would have thought she was making it up if i didn't know that was her birthday. so they carded me instead, and then we were like "Bible software must be dangerous if they have to card us"

yeah american mcgees alice is the one i heard the good review of, and i strangly am intrigued by a game that warps a classic childrens story, not that alice in wonderland could really get weirder... just darker i guess

wal-mart sometimes gets weird about selling games. one time a few years ago i wanted to buy "orphen", a teen-rated game. he wouldnt' sell it to me because it was rated teen and i wasn't 17 at the time. he then turns the game over and says "yes this has animated violence. i cant sell it to you because it has animated violence". it's ok tho, because i went to a different store later and got it 30 bucks cheaper;)

That reminds me... of my Wal-Mart story... 'bout the beginning of last year... I bought Return to Castle Wolfenstien .. which of course is a M-rated World War II shoot 'em up. I was 16 and rather oblivious to the carding/ID thing... apparently, the man at the register was too. Anyways, I came back about a month later... when the ID checks were more enforced. This time I had come for the game Star Craft which was a teen rated game.. the guy at the counter scanned it and said "I'm sorry this game it rated R, sir." Anyways, we got into a small argument and I got him to call the supervisor. The Supervisor told me, "Uhh.. sir, I honestly don't know about this Video game stuff.. let me go check with someone." He walked off (apparently going to chat with the great game guru of Wally World or something) and he came back saying I could buy it, but just to check it out at the front of the store, instead at the Electronics center. O_o During this strange mess, I could have been gone Best Buy and been home playing in half the time.

Alice is a really good game. One of the best PC games ever, IMO. You'll enjoy playing that.

Walmart tend to have workers that either

A.Know nothing whatsoever about what there doing
B.Go power trippy on little things. This middle aged woman has carded me like a thousand times on R rated movie dvds and video games. Its like...woman I have not gotten younger since last week.

Anyway you will find I have a certain hatred towards Walmart since they are competiton to my store. They also send there leetches over to copy our prices down......

I think you bring up a valid point, Coby. We SHOULD consider what we watch, play, and listen to, etc. But I do whole-heartedly believe in personal standards. Some Christians are strong enough in their walk that "animated violence" doesn't bother them in the least, and they can play a game without it destroying their relationship to the Lord. In those instances, I think it's fine to play a "more mature" game, especially if age wise they can handle it. But it's all about individual standards--between you and the Lord.

Animated violence doesn't really bother a war-movie buff like me. I equate pixilated blood the same as food coloring.

Talking about that, I'll think that I'll go watch Black Hawk Down again.

Regarding the serious thread of conversation: Personally, I feel that while it is important to watch/play only what you feel comfortable watching, the issue runs much deeper. The point is not to appear holy to the world, the point is to be holy. It would be no better to play an M-rated game alone by yourself than in the presence of others.

On a similar topic: I have a habit of checking out obviously Christian and obviously anti-Christian books at the same time from my library. I have gotten some wierd looks. And there was the time I checked out several massive books on philosophy along with comic books.

Yeah I agree CobaltAngel, i would hate to look like a hypocrite or give a bad impression of Christians, but i hope that in all my actions my christianity would show more than playing violent video games or an anime addiction . but on a good note about that i have been able to have good conversations with non-christian friends about said hobbies and been able to bring up Christianity or at the very least morals through that.

Honstly most Christians blow by how they live and act rather than by what they play... I know very "holy" people who frown on people who play games such as these or watch PG-13 or higher rated movies, yet in how they act toward others they've done far worse for the cause of Christ than my playing even a game like GTA.

That's not to say we shouldn't take into consideration what we're playing, and esp. how it effects us and those around us... my point has more to do with the fact that how we relate to other people is going to speak far more loudly than the entertainment that we involve oursevles in.


As for Alice, it rocks... I've got to replay the whole game now though (lost all my saves when I wiped the HD), but it's all good. Dungeon Keeper 2 is in that kit too if I remember correctly, it's pretty cool, more of a strategy game though. Another one that I have to go back and finish... it's got some real funny bits to it.
