Is some bizarre contract with FUNi or are they worried people won't make the connection between Detective Conan and the Case Closed series on CN? -_- As long as they keep everything else in the manga original, there won't be much protest. And boy, this sure is going to be a long project for Viz.... 45 volumes and still going, right? XD And I believe the TV episodes are around 300+?

It is unusual for Viz to compromise the original name of a manga title. For example, they maintained "Hana Kimi" (shortened version of "HanaZakari Kimitachi no E") but didn't use "Full Blossoms for You" or whatever the proper translation is.

Yeah, Conan is one huge series XD XD But I'm ready to hoard them all still coz it's really good!

OOT Ann: We use "hamba" or "orang suruhan" to describe slave, I think. You know, you're not the only Indonesian that has asked me about the rumah sakit thingy. To tell the truth, my Malaysian friends and I have NO CLUE as to where you guys heard that from. We use Rumah Bersalin (don't laugh!) to describe just that. So no, we don't sacrifice men in such places. LOL

Yeah it is, but in this case they would have run into trouble because of the word "CONAN" and "DETECTIVE." Mostly becuase of the wildly famous series about a "DETECTIVE", Sherlock holmes, by Sir Arthur CONAN doyle. Some copyright junk. Yeah I think it is pathetic too.

I am not aware whether or not anyone currently holds the rights to the name of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, but a few places have stated that the "legal considerations" were probably due to Conan the Barbarian.
Or perhaps they are afraid that Conan O' Brian will sue...

Yes, I know that the last one is especially stupid and a bit farfetched, but with people sueing other people left and right now days just for money, changing the name from Detective Conan is somewhat understandable.

As for Viz's manga title, I have heard from a few places that the first volume is going to be called "Detective Conan Volume 1: Case Closed" but I'm not sure if that is the final title.

Now that you guys have mentioned it, it does make sense. I am satisfied with such an explanation. Thank God Viz chose a pretty good title to replace the original one. ^_~

Hm, sounds plausible, but yeah, it's sad if it is true that using a certain combination of relating words could get you sued :\ 'Detective' is a common word, 'Conan' oh okay... but 'Detective Conan' together...to my knowledge the Meitantei Conan is the only one using that combination as a title.

OOT: Mave... aaaaahhhh ic. O_o it had been a rumor afterall! Anyway, 'rumah bersalin' isn't much different, we just have a 'sakit' in the middle ^^ Thx for clearing things up, that question has been running in my mind for YEARS... XD

Well, I found something interesting concerning the Detective Conan name changes.

http://forums.toonzone.net/showthread.php?t=113439

Apparantly, if this is correct, the various name changes are not Funimation's fault at all but rather, the fault of the original Japanese company.

I agree with one of the posters at that thread that we still haven't heard from the japanese side. Who knows where they got that idea of changing names...

Yeah, it's been 100% confirmed that there was a "fear of confusion" with Conan the Barbarian. Yet another example of morons trying to Americanize things too much. Sorry if ya disagree, this is all imo. I loved it in fansubs though.

"Case Closed"? XD Is that what they're calling Detective Conan now? Lol, I thought it was a new anime you guys were talking about. Okay, I get it. I did watch Detective Conan years ago, dubbed in Tagalog. Didn't see the entire show, though. Just a couple of eps here and there, but I enjoyed them. ^^

Agreed! I seen most all the episodes when I was in Japan a while ago ~.~ ;; But the CN version is great, hardly any editing done.

Yeah, I can vouch for the lack of editing. I love it! but it prevents me from letting my little bro see it.

Postby Mic Mic » Fri Jul 30, 2004 9:52 pm

I watched Case Closed one night cause I was bored and I loved it. It actually made me l think and it was a murder show as a cartoon. I really got into once I saw the whole Ran/Shinchinti(I think that's how it's spelled) thing. I thoguht it was so cute so I checked up more on the show and fell in love with it exactly hmm 2 days ago it was. :hits_self

Detective Conan is right up there beside Inuyasha and Eden's Bowy  *wipes tear from eye* But Funi got it... :?:

Just watch out for the "Stroker and Hoop" ads that run during the anime now... That's just nasty... Can anyone say "Hypocricy"? And, um, well I allready said "nasty."

And I agree... It is sad that Funimation got it... Even more sad taht they got one of my favorite shows: Kodomo no Omocha... I don't want to know how they'll ruin that one... sick {name of sword}s

LOL, that's what we thought, too. Man, that was tragic how it turned out, though...although the very ending with Jimmy and Rachel...gah, it had me all misty...*bangs head* Why doesn't he just tell her! ARGHHHH! :P

Case Closed it all right. I don't really care much for the general lack of character development (well, meaningful development, at least) but the actual cases are pretty inventive and very well executed (ooh, pun).

Did anyone see the episode that was on Monday? (Billionare Birthday Blues part 2 or something similar) I missed it because I fell asleep. Who was the killer? (My sister and I both agreed it was the old lady and somebody else, but we could be wrong)

I absolutely love this show. Definately a favorite. It's one of those that my sister and I talk about for a long time at the dinner table. (Especially those 2 part murder cases. =D)

The terrifying moldy bread incident! In elementary school, Yomi's leftover bread started rotting inside her desk! you can't imagine what happened! Not only that, but the mold had a will of its own, it was terrible! Barricading ourselves in the science prep room, we used spirit lamps and engaged in combat! Then I realized it!! If we only had the bottle of mildew remover from the bathroom, we could destroy them!!

Hey, I think I finally figured out the spoiler thingy!
It was the guy with the glasses and the long nose. The two people who died had drowned the girl who had come to save them at sea, so he drowned them to avenge her (I think they were in love).
Anyway, I love Case Closed! Yes, the Christmas episode was very nice at the end (but very tragic with the whole murder case). The only thing that fries my fritters is that he just won't tell her who he is. I know, he has his reasons... blah blah.

You guys are actually rather lucky. From what I've heard, they were planning on stopping at episode 20-something but the series did well enough that they went ahead and showed the next 20-something episodes.
Two seasons in the space of only a few months...

In an odd marketing strategy, Season 3 will be released on DVD before Seasons 1 & 2 are...
I want to get the starter set.
