Before I begin, let me say that my activity as of late has been rather low (as in nonexistent
).
Anyway, I'll start with God's Word (a very good place to start
):
"You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder. and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.' But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment" (Matthew 5:21-22).
"Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in darkness" (1 John 2:9).
With that, I would say that hate is wishing ill and hardship upon others. It is "to commit murder in your heart."
Hate is often born of pride and envy; that is, one wants to be the greatest, even if that means that everyone else must be brought low. The only things that we are justified in hating are sin and wickedness, as they are completely opposed to the love of God.
