(Not) Halloween

I don't know if anyone else celebrates All Saints Day, but that's all Halloween's coming means to my family.

Isn't that mostly a Catholic thing? I suppose the Catholic folks on here would celebrate it too if that's the case.

We've been turning off the lights during the last few Halloweens. It might sound bad, but people drive in to our neighborhood from the poorer areas of town every year and drop their kids off by the truckload to go tricker-treating (better candy?). It really comes off as tacky and given that no one in our family seems to be having kids, we've just decided to let it drop and not support the candy industry.

Or maybe they want their kids to go trick-or-treating somewhere where they don't have to worry about their kids getting hurt.

Anyways, my uni's art department is having a halloween party, so I may go to that, but other than that I doubt I'll do anything. Maybe listen to Oingo Boingo all day on Halloween, but I already do that all the time, so it's not exactly special.

I don't see why middle or upper class people would buy candy any different from lower class people to give out to trick-or-treaters. xD Everyone buys those mixed bags of candy at Walmart.

Posting because I learned something today... I had always assumed Halloween had pagan origins. Apparently, it was either entirely Christian in origin or at least heavily Christianized. This article was a long but interesting read:

I think it's kind of interesting that some view Halloween as satanic and evil and something Christians should avoid, but really it's just another Christian holy day like Mardi Gras.

Halloween isn't Christian in origin, but like a lot of pagan festivals, the Catholic Church placed a Christian celebration on the same date. Halloween comes from the harvest festival of Samhain which was celebrated in Ireland and Scotland.

My mother doesn't necessarily like Halloween, but she doesn't care if I trick-or-treat because I get free candy. I actually wasn't planning on trick-or-treating because I feel too old, but then my dad said he wanted me to go with his girlfriend's grandson so I get to go trick-or-treating tomorrow.

Mask is from Venice actually. Still, I did a few other things. Like remove the optics from 3d glasses and get them on the eye. With the robe closed you'll pretty much only see the mask, and man, it was a great time. Got another Halloween party to go to tomorrow even so more fun ahead.
