Um, not to belittle your passion in exposing Mr. Era, Volt, but this kind of scam is actually a bit old. I used to receive this sort of thing years ago; thought it had died off already. Hehe, it's still the same old spiel - it's still in Africa. XD Anyway, I've always thought best to just ignore them - this is the Internet after all and online sources are always very slippery and they can disappear with a click of a button. But if you decide to play along and invest some time into it, well, just be careful, mon. You might not know what sort of thing you're dealing with.

I usually just delete any that I get. That way whoever's on the other end will think I don't exist... or something.

I believe Swordskill is correct. This might just be a ploy for you to play along. We don't know who is on the other end, and appearances can be decieving. I would just ignore it and delete the email.

If it matters, this is at LEAST 20 years old. It started out not even being an internet scam....

LOL... I'm also entertained very easliy. The doorstopper was one of my favorite toys as a kid.

But that's off topic. ^^;; My dad has gotten this several times and simply loves making fun of it. He actaully has stories of people who have fallen for it.

ID thiefs don't need you social security number to pull it off, they can get it later through social engineering, like finding out who your telephone company is and then calling pretending to be them and asking for your social security number or even more devious ways. Its really easy to do these days.

I got an e-mail like that once. It was from some James Mulu, only his letter was a lot more convincing. Good thing I didn't fall for it:grin: The dead give away that it was a fake was that he called me 'sir.' I believe his letter also came from the African/Asian area.
Kinda sad they havn't figured out that most of there scam emails will end up in someones trash bin:lol:

Hmm... I could of got something like that... but, we'll never really know. Normally, when I open my e-mail box... I hold down the delete key... the only purpose for my e-mail address is to sign up for things (forums and such) and use MSN messenger. If someone wants to inform me of something important... don't e-mail me.... it will most likely be deleted.. along with the spam.
