What Ive watched recently.
The Avengers 3d (EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Punch Drunk Love( That and Waterboy are my 2 favorite Adam Sandler movies, very different now I really wanna see Funny People)
Natural Born Killers(very violent and bizaare but interesting one. One of my "I cant sleep I'll watch a movie" views. It NOT for everyone but I liked it. My only criticism is that the part with the prison at the end dragged on a little bit but it was good.)
Godspell (it was sweet, I like musicals alot reminded me of Jesus Christ Superstar abit.)
I just rewatched StarCrash a goofy B movie that attempts to knock off Star Wars but it has charm with its stopmotion affects, its Really fun.
Also today I needed to throw any thing on in the background while I did my paper so before I decided on StarCrash I put in Batman and Robin and after about 2 minutes took it out.

BigSleepJ, yes, the original Gojira is very good and surprisingly dark. I didn't like the romantic sub-plot either but the rest was pretty good. 7/10

Return to Oz (1985). I really enjoyed this movie, though some may disagree. Longtime film and sound-editor Walter Murch's only film as director is a pseudo-sequel to the original musical film from 1939. Because of its dark story (and not being a musical) this movie bombed at the box office despite being closer to the darker tone of the original books, but has since attracted a cult following (the movie is a combination of the 2nd and 3rd Oz books, both seldom read nowadays). If the dark story does not float your boat then at least watch it for some of the best, eeriest special effects of the '80's, including incredible Claymation monsters and puppets by the Jim Henson Co. Just don't expect any of the characters from the first movie to return in prominent roles, despite appearing on posters and DVD covers.

The eerie story thus far: it has been six months since Dorothy visited the land of Oz, only to find that no-one believes her. Indeed, she has sleepless nights because of her experiences. Subsequently her aunt and uncle take her for treatment to a psychiatrist who believes that electro-shock therapy (!?!?!?) can cure her. She escapes the insanely creepy mental asylum and gets trapped in a flood, and is washed back to the Land of Oz, which is in ruins. She discovers that the Nome King has conquered Oz and many of its inhabitants are either in hiding or turned to stone. Knowing that her friends need her help she decides to save the land of Oz. Although aimed at small children it might scare the pants of them.

I love that one too. I'm curious whos Batman movies are your favorites? For me even though I LOVE the Nolan ones my favorites are the Tim Burton ones just cuz the cinematography was soo close to the comics and even though he changed some stuff I loved the way he wrote the villains. I also like the way Michael Keaton did Bruce Wayne and Batman, It was a bit different from the comics but I liked the take on it so thats not a criticism. Unlike how the Superman movies werent able to make Metropolis look more than New York Tim Burtons Gotham looked like the weird Gotham of the comics and cartoon so I loved that.

Return to Oz is so much better than the original Wizard of Oz (not that I ever cared for that one). Sure it doesn't have the pedigree of the original but the disturbing, psychological angle taken in this 'sequel' is so much more interesting and satisfying.

I decided I would finally hunker down and watch some Akira Kurosawa to see what all the fuss is about, so I watched Throne of Blood and Rashomon. Throne of Blood was surprisingly apt; I never would have thought of turning Macbeth into a samurai tale, but it fits perfectly into that setting! Really well done, and utterly creepy in exactly the right places (as the Shakespeare play never managed to do on its own for me).

Rashomon was kind of like a murder mystery, where all the witnesses are telling a different story and you're not sure who's telling the truth, if anyone. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it, but as soon as the first witness told his story and got contradicted, I was hooked and knew I had to watch it to the end. Really well done.

And then, on a completely different note, I watched You've Got Mail, which was okay, but not really my thing. I doubt I'll watch it again. I also tried to stomach Brother Bear 2 to see just how awful it might be, but I only lasted 20 minutes

Throne of Blood and Rashomon are somewhat 'lesser films' in Kurosawa's oeuvre, though some may disagree on Rashomon as it is the first film where he made a big impact inside and outside Japan. Ikiru, Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, The Bad Sleep Well, and High and Low (to a degree) are his masterpieces. The Bad Sleep Well is an alternate, wholly different take on Hamlet (set in 1960s Japan) and Ran is King Lear with Samurai, though that one is not everyone's cup of tea.

I tend to like both, though both try to be different films. They are good for what they are. :)

I personally find the Nolan films to be my favorites. They nail the dark, gritty atmosphere. I do personally thing Keaton played a far better Bruce because as the Nostalgia Critic would say "you'd never guess Keaton was Batman." I think the first Burton film worked really well. It was more comic book oriented and it is one of the only films that I think genuinely feels like a comic book brought to life. I just think the Nolan films are a better representation of a great blend of modern comics and film.

Rashomon I admire more for it's approach to storytelling and cinematography than anything else. I didn't really care for the characters and the story was a bit simple and dull.

I saw The Hunger Games . It was pretty good, for most of the movie at least. It's hard to talk about this film without mentioning the Battle Royale film, which I also think is "pretty good." I think the Battle Royale film is the better film between these two, at least in terms of the actual film making itself. I have to say that the actual camera work in The Hunger Games was kind of annoying at first, and during the actual scenes of violence it never ceased to be annoying. I know it's not supposed to be an "action" movie, but I would prefer not to be confused about what the heck is actually happening when two characters are trying to kill each other. Which of these vague blurs of a human am I supposed to be going for? Who has the advantage?

I'll let people debate among themselves which story is better. The Battle Royale Series is a big favorite of mine, (I own the Novel, Manga [One of the few cases in which the manga is better than the novel], and the Film) but it is very Japan-specific, but The Hunger Games is somewhat more universal I think in the messages that it talks about...

The killing scenes were the only times in the movie that the blurred camera work felt right.

I disagree. The books are pretty graphic for teen books. I understand not wanting an R rating to exclude the teen fanbase but the shaky camera work was put in the film post production. At least some was, some obviously wasn't. So I am personally hoping for an unrated bluray version that ditches the shaky camera and show more.

Just as well that we can agree to disagree.

Pixar's "Brave".

PROS: Princess Merida, her Clydesdale - Angus, the triplets, Billy Connolly, most of the cast, gorgeous visuals, the Scottish culture and accents, the drama, the action, much of the soundtrack, the 1st and 3rd acts, some good humour, and all that red hair!

CONS: Much of the 2nd act was a bit lazily-written and struck the wrong tone, making the movie seem rather uneven. Pixar generally manages to strike the right balance between the dramatic and funny moments but don't quite succeed this time. I also didn't care for this act (regarding the wild beast), because it seemed to tell a vastly different story to the one I had envisioned from the trailer (this Con is my own personal preference). As a whole I think "Brave" would've worked better as a dramatic adventure story, one with humorous moments, rather than what we were given. Still, a good movie and quite enjoyable.

Watched Snow White & The Huntsman it was very action-packed to say the least, and very creepy. I only really saw it because Thor was in it. :P
All in all, I know many of you would probably call it awesome. I found it 'meh'.

I watched Lucio Fulchi's 1979 Zombie epic aptly titled Zombie (aka Zombie 2) It was a fun little movie it has aged quite a bit unfortunately. I still enjoyed it. Great started movie for my friends Horror 101 education.

Othello (Kenneth Branagh version) - Now this is how to consume a Shakespeare story  It was word-for-word from the play (as far as I could tell/remember), with all the thees and thous in place, and even doing believable soliloquies to the camera, but because they were speaking those lines with passion as though they really believed them and talked that way every day, it didn't seem pompous and melodramatic like Shakespeare's plays often seem to me. All the acting was absolutely superb.

The Fall - Oh my goodness, this was beautiful. I still can't figure out why it's rated R, because there's some blood, but nothing that horrible. Anyway, it's about a man and a little girl who are both in the same hospital, and they strike up an unlikely friendship. The man starts telling her a fantastic story that ends up being about them and their troubles. It's a truly unique and beautiful blend of the whimsical and the darkly intense. Definitely going on my faves.

The White Countess - I admit that I watched this purely because it was a movie that had both Ralph Fiennes and Hiroyuki Sanada in it :3 Other than that, I didn't care for it much. (Though it was surprisingly clean for being a movie about a prostitute.)

Devil - A pretty good thriller about five people who get stuck in an elevator, and then they get picked off one by one and are trying to figure out which one of them is to blame. Excellent use of lighting and the lack thereof

I watched Shark Night. That was Terrible. I like a good horror movie and violence is fine to me depending on the context and Shark Night was horribly sexist and pointless. The movie was supposed to be some kind of knock at the violent reality shows or something, but that moral was a complete joke because the filmakers made a really exploitive movie themselves. It felt really mean spirited to me the way the women were completely helpless and when it looked like maybe they could turn the tables on their captors theyre plan backfires and they are power less again. Of course the hero had to be the man and not the black man or the nerdy guy oh no this is a modern teen horror movie so you cant do anything un expected. Also I usually dont pay much attention to ratings but I CANNOT Believe this got a PG 13 it should have been R.

That one is great. I want to see the sequel directed by Claudio Fragaso because he's the director of Troll 2 and Monster Dog(A really cheap werewolf movie with a dubbed over Alice Cooper.) I think its the 4th Zombi and involves birds or something

The pg13 there was earned. It would have been better if it was rated R. Movies like that need gore to be decent also It need to not take itself so seriously. Awful movie.

A Clockwork Orange. Saw it for the first time. The title is misleading as there is no orange in the film, meaning that it can't be clockwork as well, now can it, my brothers? Seriously, I like the film to some degree in that it was well-made and had very interesting ideas and exceptional dialogue. That said, I could not quite connect with it 100%. It is a good movie (not for sensitive viewers) but it is really bleak at times.

The last couple days I watched, Battle Beyond the Stars, Godzilla vs. Monster Zero, Mighty Peiking Man(like a Chinese King Kong), Amazing Spiderman and the Conan Remake. I LOVED the new Spiderman and even though critics I like gave it bad reviews I actually enjoyed the new Conan it was pretty fun.

I for some reason unknown to myself I just really like that film. I can't explain it. It took at least two viewings to really set in. Not a film for everyone for sure. This begs to question will you be reviewing it?

I like A Clockwork Orange as well, though I am a notorious Stanley Kubrick nerd. For me, it was a combination of Malcolm McDowell, a relatively close adaptation of Burgess' book, and the usual clever Kubrick cinematography. But I do second that it is definitely not a film for the easily offended or the squeamish, as it does not shirk from depicting Alex's sadistic appetites (and, in the second act, the appetites of those who abuse him).

I watched Disney's Pocahontis yesterday with my older younger sister, even though she didn't want to originally. If Anime people have eyes that are larger than normal, the people in that movie were the opposite.

The Running Man, an Arnold classic, and Cypher, a low-budget but intriguing film that keeps you questioning reality, a la Total Recall.
