I know that you're saying that whole situation with the money was the problem, but I'm still gonna nitpick about one little thing, if that's alright with you. If Applejack decided to give the money without telling anyone she'd be disappointed when she didn't get it, but she wouldn't think much else of it. But because she promised everyone she'd get the money beforehand it led to all her problems. I don't see Applejack as the type that would be bothered what others think of her or hated her, but her stubborn pride would let her falter because she didn't keep a promise. I say that the big problem was the promise.

I'll have to watch the episode again but I'm pretty sure after the others caught up with her she said something about "I let the whole town down." Applebloom's comment about "All those blue ribbons!" at the beginning of the episode probably nagged at her too.

But it really is the real reason. This is why the ponies aren't always perfect representations of their elements. If AJ was always honest, no matter what, we would have had an episode where she sent a telegram saying "I'm sorry, I lost the rodeo, but I have a part-time job to make the money for the town hall repairs, and won't be back in Ponyville." And everyone would go "Oh okay" and life would go on as usual.

I get what you're saying and if we couldn't explain Applejack's reasons for running away, then sure I'll let it slide. But in this case we can explain Applejack's reasons, even if the Ponies doesn't represent their elements perfectly, which I agree they do not, it is still accepted that it's one of their strongest characteristics. So then what would make Applejack be dishonest? And as you said her stubborn pride has led her astray many times before, after all in 'Fall weather friends' she ended up cheating which was very dishonest. So we don't need to say that the episode was just for story's sake or that Applejack was ooc, and the writer didn't just put up an episode with lots of gags (twitchy tails come to mind) but put a lot of thought into the position of the characters and their actions. Of course this whole thing started because at first I thought AJ was ooc, but it's different now.

They can, but most of them haven't. Lyra's canon name is "Heartstrings," and I'm pretty sure Vinyl's is officially DJ PON-3 based on the Equestria Girls song. Also, Carrot Top's official name is Golden Harvest. I've been keeping up with a lot of the canon name complaints.

Actually the blind bag names doesn't equal canon, after all they got Trixie's name wrong. Only canon if it's mentioned in the show, imo. And yes Vinyl is officially DJ PON-3 and I accept that as canon, but it's her stage name as every DJ has one, she could still be called Vinyl in the show. And I do like Minuette I hope that sticks.

Well the only reason she's called that is because of drinking that punch in Call of the Cutie. And the fact that she's always drunk. Oh Berry Punch, will you ever be sober?

I also don't see how Berryshine can be your favorite background pony when she's never appeared in an episode to my knowledge at least. I've only seen a couple of other ponies with Berry Punch's cutie mark and none of them were unicorns or the right color.

That's exactly why I don't like that name. I look at Berry and I see her nose in the apples and I see her drinking from the punch bowl at a children's party and I think she's so cute doing that, she's shy and she's a little daring and a little rude doing that. She sneaks into everywhere like in the fashion show in 'Green isn't your colour.' (she wasn't wearing a dress like the fancy ponies so I say sneaked in) and she avoided Pinkie's cartwheel attack in 'Bird in the hoof' (Walks out, Pinkie attacks, appears back inside, gots skillz. (Or she respawned,:shady: but ignore that.)) The fandom comes, sees her drinking from a punch bowl and makes her a drunkard. What!?:stressed: Why!?:bang: Yeah, whatever. @Bio That was an impressive rant, and I'd say it's all quite true. Me, I really don't like it when people put less-than-innocent attributes on ponies, like drunkenness and (worst of all) sexual innuendo or lesbian "shipping". I guess you get that kind of stuff from the fans of pretty much any innocent show, but it still really bothers me. I don't like that kind of stuff anyway, but when it's applied to ponies, it's extra offensive somehow. One big reason this show is so great is because of its charming innocence.

The thoughts about AJ's motives are very interesting. I hadn't really thought about it all that much after watching the episode, but her dishonesty DID bother me just a little bit. I think I agree though that she was in character and just struggling between honesty in keeping her promise and honesty in telling the full truth. And of course, her stubborn pride has to get mixed up too! I think the episode definitely stays true to AJ's character instead of making her dishonest just for the sake of a dynamic plot. It fleshes her out a little more and reveals some of her weak areas with regard to her element.

When her pride gets in the way. Like in Applebuck Season when she kept telling Twilight "I don't need any help!" She knew she did, but she refused to admit it because of her pride. And, as you mentioned, she repeatedly cheated in Fall Weather Friends to win the race.

More canon than the fan names at least. The FiM wiki has it this way: most commonly accepted fanon name. If a character's name is mentioned in-show, that's officially their name. If their name is not mentioned in the show, but a blind-bag pony with the same color scheme is released, then that is considered their official name.

This is why the Derpy Hooves entry was changed to just "Derpy." Since they didn't say "Hooves" in the show, her name is officially considered to be just Derpy. With the blind bag ponies, they may have gotten Trixie's name wrong, but her name was mentioned in show (highest canon). For the others, since they have no names in the show, blind bag is considered official names, so we have Heartstrings and Golden Harvest.

I won't argue with that. Although the fandom isn't much bothered by the blindbag names. Lyra has become Lyra Heartstrings in the fandom and I've seen more people using Golden Harvest lately, but on the other hand Blues and Colgate has mostly stayed with their fanon names.
But it is worth mentioning that the creators of the show have commented that there isn't much contact between them and Hasbro's toy division (I believe it was Jayson who commented on that) and they don't have much say to what the toy division does, which could mean that fanon names are still up for grabs.

I'm not saying it's canon, it's fanon. I don't honestly think she's drunk in the show. XD There's a lot of things that are fanon but I don't believe seriously, like Lyra and Bon-Bon being a couple. Of course it's not supported in the show itself, but it's so much fun to see them as a couple that I accept it.

I understand that fanon will be fanon and shippers gonna ship. I actually really like the fandom and the majority of what it churns out, but I don't really like it when they start dragging the show down to a much lower level by pushing the same junk on it that everything else in the entertainment industry uses to get their ratings. One big reason the show is so groundbreaking is because it's so good without having to resort to that kind of stuff. *shrug*

Wait, how is the fandom ever going to drag the show down? The Derpy thing was just a fun thing thrown in for the fans because it's ultimately harmless. A lot of the stuff you dislike can't and won't ever be in the show, so what's the problem?

What I'm saying is I love it when JJ draws pictures of say, Lyra and Bon-Bon getting married. You're free to dislike it, that's fine too, but it is impossible for that to "drag the show down." That picture in no way affects the episodes, it's never going to happen. The show is its own creation, and the fan works can never change the show itself. The creators may throw in fun jokes for fanservice, but the fans don't (and won't) have the power to put stuff they want into episodes.

I don't mean the show itself, as in the literal episodes. I guess I phrased that poorly. I more meant that I don't see the point of applying gross things to the show in general to make such fanon. I know the episodes won't get that way, but I don't like the widely accepted and discussed associations between the two. In my book, it drags down the spirit of the show and somewhat lowers my opinion of the fandom. And I'm just referring to the gross stuff here, not the harmless stuff the fandom comes up with. But anyway, that's just my opinion. If you're into that stuff, that's okay! It's just not for me.

I'm liking the OCs! Chocolate Pretzel's Sweetie Belle mane is just awesome I like the colors on him. And Bio, Scout is pretty cliche, but in a good way! He's awesome I hope that PMV comes along better. Post it when you're done!

The gross stuff though? No, just no. I actually stopped watching an MLP group over on DA because the stuff they were approving to be in the group there made me want to throw up sometimes. I really don't undertand why people would want to draw something like that about ponies for goodness sakes. 0.o
