Intense snowfall in New England region in October!

Postby Juliannesan » Sun Oct 30, 2011 9:38 am

So, I live in the New England area and just experienced a history-record snowfall here, of about 25 inches of snow yesterday evening.

Anyone else get snow?

Haha, happy early winter! :P

DC got some show for a few hours, but it was bookended with rain, so none of it stuck around.

That's good, we got about 2 feet of snow! And we didn't lose power, but a lot of people (including my parents) that live in Central MA, all got about 1 foot of snow and lost power everywhere. I find it kind of ironic. I think it's because up here some people were smart enough to have some tree removal trucks come up and cut some of the trees/branches down that were close to some of the electric lines here.

Wow. O___O Every year I tell people there will be snow by my birthday. Every year, no one believes me. And then most years we have snow by then. Guess it decided to come early a bit east from here. XD

As a Southerner, I didn't get any. I imagine it's probably a little bit chilly up there.

On a serious note, at least we haven't heard of any injuries. There weren't any, right?

Here in central PA it snowed a couple inches yesterday. Resulted in some power outages and minor tree branch-related property damage here and there. Roads were pretty well iced over this morning (as was my car :/) but it's all pretty well cleared now.

Here in NC we're lucky to get a few good snows a year. Soooo glad I don't live further up north. I don't know if I could live with that much snow. XDD

You know what we call 25 inches of snow in Norway?

I got lots of snow. It was wet stuff, so shoveling it was pretty tiring. And it hasn't melted yet. :I I lost power, too.

Maybe if I'm lucky, this is February's snow here early, and winter will be over early this year! :D

I haven't read any news stories, but I doubt there's been any spectacular number--or at least, no more than there is any other time a storm like this blows through. (In my area, the only thing unusual about the snowfall is how early it occurred.) When you know how to deal with them safely (e.g., don't run a generator indoors), storms like these are fairly harmless. Worst-case scenario, you have to use buckets of water to flush the toilet for days (and so you don't do it much :P).

Yeah, unfortunately there were a few casualties. But yeah, a lot of people lost power in Massachusetts and Connecticut. But living in New Hampshire, though we got almost the most snow, we didn't lose power. So that was nice at least, a lot has melted today though.

I suppose that I can always hope that this somehow makes it's way to the West Coast. I'd love for there to be a bit of colder weather for once.

You never know. ;D I was down in south Texas one winter, at my grandparents farm, they lived less than an hours drive from Corpus Christi (on the ocean), and we had about 6 inches of snow fall at the farm. It. Was. Awesome.

hm, you know where i live. lol

Incidentally, we've had snow where I'm at. Usually it comes for a couple days and sticks around for maybe a week and a half. After that, it's gone, but it looks cool and feels decent (I like northern, lake snow, however. Take a guess at where I've lived before).
