Jarrod woke up...
... figuratively speaking.
He certainly was not in the hospital anymore. What he saw instead was a bright white landscape, with no distinguishable landmarks in sight. As it was, he could barely make out the horizon in the distance.
"Ah, so you're here, eh?"
"GWAH!!" Jarrod must've jumped about a foot and a half when he heard the voice. "Who's there? W-where? uh..." Jarrod felt like a fool - there was nobody here but him. He rubbed his head in confusion. He could've sworn he had just heard someone speaking in his ear. "Geez, what's up with me today-" He stopped mid-sentence.
His head didn't hurt. He didn't feel tired, either.
"Well, then... that's... odd..."
"So sorry, but were you looking for me?"
"YAAAH!!" Jarrod spun around again at the voice, this time reasoning that it belonged to a young girl. Again, however, he saw nothing.
There's no one here...
Of course there isn't!
AHH!! what--
You do know where you are, don't you?
Suddenly, it came to him. The vast, empty landscape... the ambient voice...
... Am I dead?
Nope! Wrong! The disembodied voice giggled gleefully.
"Then where am I?!?" Jarrod shouted in angry frustration.
"Silly! You're in The Past!"
"The Past? What do you mean?" But even as Jarrod asked the question, the pieces were already coming together, forming a horrifying picture.
No... NO... not again... NOT AGAIN!!
Jarrod's world began to spin, the landscape twisting and mutating to form dreadful images, calling up memories of his past.
Painful memories. The lab. The professor. Flames.
"NO! Stop it, please!!! STOP IT!!!"
Jarrod couldn't bear to watch, yet he couldn't tear his eyes away from the scene unfolding before him. He watched in horror as the flames quickly engulfed the lab, and cried out when he saw the form of Professor Jameson slammed through a nearby wall, rolling to a stop against the far wall of the room. He watched as his young intern jumped through the wall after him, crying out his name with a voice filled with fear. He watched as a Machoke climbed through the wall and knocked the youth aside, and watched in silent horror as the Machoke grabbed the professor by the throat.
"NOOOO!!!"

The girl's voice began to rise in pitch until it was an unearthly screech.
NO!! YOU CANNOT ESCAPE YOUR PAST FOREVER, JARROD! IT WILL CATCH UP TO YOU! IT WILL DESTROY YOU!! IT WILL--
The voice was cut off as another voice took its place.
"It felt... familiar...
...
... Did anyone else feel that...?"
Jarrod recognized the voice instantly: Joseph!
Jarrod reached out towards his mind, hoping for a connection - anything to escape the horror around him.

Somehow Reaver ended up in a strange place.He saw a boy and spoke." And who are YOU?"Reaver's eyes in this place were black as dark and he had an aura of hate seeping out from his feet.

Jarrod looked around. The scene he had been experiencing before was now replaced by darkness.
He turned as a voice addressed him: "And who are YOU?"
Jarrod stumbled back at the ferrocity packed into those four words.

Jarrod reached out again, using his mind to probe the depths of his surroundings. However, he hadn't thought about the fact that this was Reaver's mind - his mental probes gave off a hollow luminesence, manifesting itself as tendrils of distorted, shimmering air currents.
Unfortunately for Jarrod, Reaver noticed the distortions first. Before Jarrod could pull them back, he suddenly felt an eruption of mental force coming from Reaver's direction.
Oh... CRAP!

Chaotic used her psychic powers to trace the path that Jarrod and the others had taken. She had just come to a stop in front of a large door. She hesitated to go inside, afraid of what she might see once she entered. She reached through the door using her mind, trying to find Jarrod's mind. She got more than she bargained for - she sensed Jarrod's mind, but also the minds of the others that she had seen earlier. Suddenly she felt an eruption of psychic force, and felt Jarrod's mind recoil under the force of a psychic assault.
What's going on in there?!
Without thinking, Chaotic used Psychic to reach up and open the door. She rushed into the room-- and stopped cold. Everyone in the room was standing stock still. Fearing the worst, she began to move towards the bed, when she was suddenly cut off by a small Pichu.

Jarrod sidestepped. At least, he thought he did. As soon as Reaver lunged, instinct took over. Visions of what had happened to Professor Jameson flashed through his mind. The same would not happen to him.
I won't let him get me... he won't even get near me!!
Jarrod stepped out of Reaver's path, then whipped around to face him.
He won't even-- oh.
That was when Jarrod realized exactly what he was up against. Reaver had already caught himself and turned around to face Jarrod. By the time Jarrod had stopped moving, Reaver was already facing him and preparing to leap.
Jarrod took a step back.
Reaver lunged.
Everything went white.
Jarrod felt as if he was being dragged to the surface of a lake, rising so quickly that he felt as if his chest was being crushed.
