Lyrics that have spoken to you

Postby ADXC » Sun Apr 24, 2011 10:25 pm

Normally I would post something about music in the Jam session forum, but I felt that this thread would be more of what certain songs and lyrics have spoken to you. This is an application thread which spans more than just music.

Basically, I would like to see what lyrics or lines of songs that have spoken to you that apply directly to your lives.

Why I bring this up is because I was listening to the English opening for Yu Yu Hakasho and it has these lyrics in it.

"Its time to open myself
Do something new
I wanna stop- and grow up a bit

Then suddenly my power and confidence
Start Swelling up
Magicly erupt
And its all because kindness
That I feel from people I don't even know
Then suddenly my intuition and my wisdom grow
And then I know
That most of all I sense compassions
Weild into strangers
Wherever I go
Thank you for waking me up"

I soon realized how much these lyrics related so much to my life and how I felt.

So anyway, let's begin!

Also, if a mod sees the need to move this to Jam session, then I am fine with that.

Rite of spring by Angels and Airwaves
I was locked all day in the summer heat,
In a small brown house in Suburban Street,
With a skateboard and my sick guitar,
I'd dream all day that they would get me far,
My dad would ask me about my grades,
The sports that I never played.
And then I'd ask about the girls he'd date,
Behind our backs when mom would stay up late.
It was near when I turned sixteen,
Got kicked out of school, and so it seemed
that things were closing in and ready to blow,
My dad moved out about that year or so,
It took an hour to start a punk rock band
To offset my messed up family land
And as I held my mom would start to cry
I swore ourselves a better life

If I had a chance for another try,
I wouldn't change a thing
It's made me all of who I am inside
And if I could thank god
That I am here, and that I am alive
And everyday I wake
I tell myself a little harmless lie
The whole wide world is mine

i do believe that song changed my life
Just some punk kid that likes techno music

I'm waste deep in my pity
Is Satan tryna trick me and tell me you won't forgive me
Cause it's startin to get me
Jesus help me quickly I hate wrong I've done
I know we all fall but I feel like the only one
Feels like I should be shunned
Should I punish myself
I know it's dumb cause by your death all my sin has been dealt
But my sin is been felt
I didn't want to do it
But what I want to do I don't
I swear I'm going through it
Try to open my bible I need to read your pages

I need you Lord but my guilt has got me feeling so faithless
Help me see where your face is
Take me back to the basics
Help me find my joy in you and not people and places
My sin is ever before me I turned my back on You
Oh Father break and restore me to bring me back to You
Game on!

Here's a couple good ones:
1. "Prodigal" by Casting Crowns

Living on my own, thinking for myself
Castles in the sand, temporary wealth
Walls are falling down, storms are closing in
Tears have filled my eyes, here I am again

And I've held out as long as I can
Now I'm letting go and holding out my hand

Daddy, here I am again
Will You take me back tonight
I went and made the world my friend
And it left me high and dry
I drag Your name back through the mud
That You first found me in
Not worthy to be called Your son
Is this to be my end
Daddy, here I am
Here I am again

Curse this morning sun
Drags me in to one more day
Of reaping what I've sown
Of living with my shame
Welcome to my world
And the life that I have made
Where one day you're a prince
The next day you're a slave
2. "What if I Stumble"--DC Talk
Is this one for the people? Is this one for the Lord?
Or do I simply serenade for things I must afford?
You can jumble them together, my conflict still remains
Holiness is calling, in the midst of courting fame
Cause I see the trust in their eyes
Though the sky is falling
They need Your love in their lives
Compromise is calling

What if I stumble, what if I fall?
What if I lose my step and I make fools of us all?
Will the love continue when my walk becomes a crawl?
What if I stumble, and what if I fall?

What if I stumble, what if I fall?
You never turn in the heat of it all
What if I stumble, what if I fall?

Father please forgive me for I can not compose
The fear that lives within me
Or the rate at which it grows
If struggle has a purpose on the narrow road you've carved
Why do I dread my trespasses will leave a deadly scar
Do they see the fear in my eyes? Are they so revealing?
This time I cannot disguise all the doubt I'm feeling

What if I stumble, what if I fall?
What if I lose my step and I make fools of us all?
Will the love continue when my walk becomes a crawl?
What if I stumble, and what if I fall?

What if I stumble?
Everyone's got to crawl when you know that
You're up against a wall, it's about to fall
Everyone's got to crawl when you know that

I hear You whispering my name [You say]
"My love for You will never change" [never change]

What if I stumble, what if I fall?
What if I lose my step and I make fools of us all?
Will the love continue when my walk becomes a crawl?
What if I stumble, and what if I fall?

What if I stumble, what if I fall?
You never turn in the heat of it all
What if I stumble, what if I fall?
You are my comfort, and my God

Is this one for the people, is this one for the Lord?
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you. I appointed you to be a prophet of all nations."

of Montreal's Kevin Barnes is, to put things mildly, not a person with whom I share many opinions. However, the of Montreal song "Baby" is astoundingly close to the way I was feeling during a bad bout of unrequited love. It was kind of comforting to have confirmation that other people out there were feeling that way:

I'm so glad I have you to think of
To channel all my loving energy into

Even though my feelings aren't returned
And in time I won't think about you this way
That still doesn't stop me
If just for now, wishing we were each other's baby

I feel these emotions for you still I know
There's no way that you're the person
I imagine you to be

Even though my feelings aren't returned
And in time I won't think about you this way
That still doesn't stop me
If just for now, wishing we were each other's baby

I don't know if it was chance
Or if this happened by fate
I don't expect you to feel the same
But if you did, well, that would be great

Minutes can make memories that last a lifetime
I distort my minutes of beauty
Into something that they're not

These things don't stop me
If just for now, wishing we were each other's baby

The earth is shaking
Because of His wrath
The mountains tremble
At the sound of His voice
He pulls down the sky
To crush His enemies
He descends upon them with fire
He is clothed in greatness
His voice resounds throughout the earth
His vengeance no longer is contained
His light destroys the darkness
If He speaks the earth will crumble
If He moves the universe will fall
He is clothed in greatness
His voice resounds throughout the earth
With the valleys of the seas exposed
And the surface of the earth laid bare
He reached down into the void
HE REACHED DOWN AND TOOK HOLD OF ME!
HALLELUJAH! HALLELUJAH!
It's not whether you can or can't do it, it is if you do it or not. Nothing comes easy in this world, especially a job or money. I rely on Jesus to get me through these hard times of persecution.

So many songs......I'll just post two:

Suddenly by Superchick:

And suddenly, it isn't what it used to be
and after all this time, it worked out just fine.
And suddenly, I am where I'm sposed' to be
and after all the tears, I was sposed' to be here.

(I reccomend looking up the song. The whole thing pretty much speaks to me)

There was also this song "A Drop In the Ocean" by Ron Pop

"A drop in the ocean, a change in the weather
I was praying that you and me might end up together.
It's like wishing for rain as I stand in the desert,
and I'm holding you closer than most,
cause you are my heaven.

Heaven doesn't seem so far away anymore,"

Alot of songs by Miriam Call and Natasha Bedingfeild I can relate to. "These Words", "Unwritten", and " I'm Yours" (this one is by Miriam) are three examples.

I don't know the title, but it was a Stephen Chris Chapman song.

And the pain falls like a curtain...
on the things I once called certain.
And I say the words "I fear the most"
I just don't know...
And the questions without answers...
come and paralyze the dancer.
So I stand here on this stage afraid to move,
afraid to fall.
Oh, but fall I must,
on this truth that my life has been forged from the dust!

God... is God and I am not.
I can only see a part...
of the picture he's painting.
God... is God and I am man.
So I'll never understand it all,
for only God is God.

And the sky begins to thunder,
and I'm filled with awe and wonder...
till the only burning question that remains is "who am I?"
Can I form a single mountain?
Take the stars in hand and count them?
Could I even take a breath without God giving it to me?
He is first and last,
before all that has been,
beyond all that will pass.

God... is God and I am not.
I can only see a part...
of the picture he's painting.
God... is God and I am man.
So I'll never understand it all,
for only God is God.

OK, this song isn't Christian per se, but I love the lyrics all the same:
"When I'm Gone"--3 Doors Down
There's another world inside of me
That you may never see
There're secrets in this life
That I can't hide
Somewhere in this darkness
There's a light that I can't find
Maybe it's too far away...
Or maybe I'm just blind...

Or maybe I'm just blind...

[Chorus]
So hold me when I'm here
Right me when I'm wrong
Hold me when I'm scared
And love me when I'm gone
Everything I am
And everything in me
Wants to be the one
You wanted me to be
I'll never let you down
Even if I could
I'd give up everything
If only for your good
So hold me when I'm here
Right me when I'm wrong
You can hold me when I'm scared
You won't always be there
So love me when I'm gone

Love me when I'm gone...

When your education X-Ray
Cannot see under my skin
I won't tell you a **** thing
That I could not tell my friends
Roaming through this darkness
I'm alive but I'm alone
Part of me is fighting this
But part of me is gone

[Chorus]

Or maybe I'm just blind...

[Chorus]

Love me when I'm gone...

Love me when I'm gone
When I'm Gone
When I'm Gone
When I'm Gone
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you. I appointed you to be a prophet of all nations."

David Crowder Band's Remedy.
Emery's Fix me. (And basically every Emery song)
Day of Fire's The Dark Hills.
Disciple's Invisible.
Flyleaf's Set Apart This Dream.
Josh Wilson's Fall Apart.
Between the Trees' The Way She Feels.
Sidewalk Prophet's You Love Me Anyway. (And all of their album, 'These Simple Truths')

All of these songs strike me in various ways and are powerful to me, typically moving me to tears. Sadly I don't have time to explain each track.

Cry on my shoulder - Overflow

Verse 2:
You're wearing a frown
Given up on hope
My heart is reaching out
More then you will ever know
Is your burden too much?
Is it more then you can bear?
I'll help carry the load if you're willing to share
You no longer have to say
No one's listening anyway

Chorus:
Come here and cry on my shoulder
I'll hold you 'til it's over
I'll rescue you tonight
Let My arms be your shelter
Your hiding place forever
I'll love you more than life

Bridge:
You have had some hard times
Had thorns placed in your side
I know about what you've been going through
Tears of pain are falling down
It hurts so bad you're crying out
Your problems won't last forever
Let Me put you back together

Well, the whole song spoke to me, but the 2. Verse, chorus and the bridge made me cry a lot. The lyric was describing my situation at that time. I thought I were about to die, but God told me that He saw my pain. God was willing to save me. God made me stronger, and I am now much closer to Him after all the horrible things happened in my life. Glory to God forever!!
There is more songs, but I can write them all down. ^^

closed door, while the door of God's love is open?~

Aha, I have a few of these...

First and foremost, the first song I can ever remember hearing. I think I was four. This song taught me much about life and death. Based on the story of the lyricist's relationship with his father, this song knocks my socks off every time.

Mike and the Mechanics - The Living Years

Every generation
Blames the one before
And all of their frustrations
Come beating on your door

I know that I'm a prisoner
To all my Father held so dear
I know that I'm a hostage
To all his hopes and fears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years

Crumpled bits of paper
Filled with imperfect thought
Stilted conversations
I'm afraid that's all we've got

You say you just don't see it
He says it's perfect sense
You just can't get agreement
In this present tense
We all talk a different language
Talking in defense

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye

So we open up a quarrel
Between the present and the past
We only sacrifice the future
It's the bitterness that lasts

So Don't yield to the fortunes
You sometimes see as fate
It may have a new perspective
On a different day
And if you don't give up, and don't give in
You may just be O.K.

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye

I wasn't there that morning
When my Father passed away
I didn't get to tell him
All the things I had to say

I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year
I'm sure I heard his echo
In my baby's new born tears
I just wish I could have told him in the living years

Say it loud, say it clear
You can listen as well as you hear
It's too late when we die
To admit we don't see eye to eye

Can't remember the exact lyrics nor do I feel like typing them but the lyrics of Katy Perry's 'Firework' and Kutless's 'Everything I need' and 'Run' have affected me.

Also, every Jeremy Camp song I've heard so far, I think.

God bless you!

Johnny Cash has a few songs that come to mind. Theocracy does have a few good songs, albeit a lot more upbeat. Then there is Brian Welsh that has made some good stuff recently.
Of two evils, choose neither - Charles Spurgeon.
