Essentially, the big problem with my development environment was that I had a billion environment variables that I needed to keep changing and that was managed through a bunch of old scripts that would break really easily.

I wonder if we should add "Mobile: (e.g., iOS, Android, etc)" to the list, as some people seem to only use their phones these days...

I'm using WIN 7 on my latest desktop, and WIN XP SP2 on the oldest. I tried Vista once but I don't like, it's too annoying, and buggy and almost all the softwares I use on XP don't work on it. Never had the same problem with WIN7. I find it the most stable of all,and I prefer it over XP

My primary OS is OS X 10.6.7, but I've also got Windows 7 Professional dual-booted on my MacBook. I use OS X about 95% of the time, I only hop over to Win7 when I want to play a non-mac compatible game such as the Star Wars Jedi Knight series games.

I assume you mean the installer scripts and binaries developed by the now defunct Loki Games.

Update: I'm now on OS X Lion (10.7), and since I use my iPhone quite a bit to access here I'll give iOS 4.3.5 a mention as well.

Windows Seven, though it's mainly because my old comp couldn't function any more, so I figured why not

I use Arch-Linux

I really want to try Gentoo(RMS 4ever) But for now I am sticking with Arch Linux.
Arch Linux is more of a DIY distro.
The package manager is very different in Arch linux, it's called: pacman.
I try to stay away from debain-based distros.

Since we're counting Android, just got myself a Galaxy Nexus (so moved from 2.3.7 on the Nexus One to 4.0.1-yakju).

The one they're dropping all tech support for when Windows 8 comes out in a few months? (I have friends that are so upset over this)

No, that isn't true. Most versions of XP will have support through April 2014.

I recently started using Ubuntu 10.04 on my PC and I also have been using iOS since before I got saved.

Actually, mainstream support for XP has already ended, according to Wikipedia.

Mainstream support, yes. That means there won't be any more service packs or minor to moderate fixes. Extended support still covers security updates of sufficient acuity and high-priority bug fixes.

Still, in fairness to the otherwise duplicitous salesperson Atria35 encountered, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to not use Windows 7 unless you have a particular software requirement or must support older hardware.

Win 7 64-bit at home, Win 7 32-bit at work. Also been looking to fiddle more with Ubuntu and VDK when I have the time.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.
