comic book movies you'd like to see

Postby rocklobster » Thu Feb 24, 2011 6:09 am

Superhero movies are all the rage. But there are some who haven't gotten the treatment yet. So what superhero movies would you like to see? And how would they be done?
Here's what I'd like to see:
Green Lantern: I think they should use Hal Jordan, since he's the most recognizable. Then in the second movie, pass the torch on to Kyle Rayner (my favorite Green Lantern)
Teen Titans: Start off by having Robin become Nightwing and do a membership drive. Then have Terra show up. Those of you who saw the cartoon know what happens next.
(I'd pick some Marvel characters, but all the best superheros they did have already been taken.)
Sandman: Yep, the Neil Gaiman version. That comic's so artsy, it might even get an Oscar.

whoops. Could you mods move this for me. I thought it up while I was in the anime sec and didn't realize it belonged in General Entertainment until I finished.

A) Wrong section.

B) Seconding Teen Titans, though I have NO idea who'd they'd be played by. That's very important for me.

People complain about Alan Moore only writing deconstructionist stuff, but this is pure classic pulp. It would make a very fun movie.

I'd also like to see a proper adaptation of LXG, but after all of the problems surrounding the first, I don't think anyone wants to touch it anytime soon. Maybe in another 5-10 years after the Sherlock craze has a chance to die down a bit.

If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things."

From what I can see the first Green Lanterm movie will be cover how Hal became the Green lantern and the first big deal with Sinestro, and at least from the trailer it looks pretty faithful to one of the versions of the origin story. (Trailors lie though so... YMMV)

Good lucky in thinking that they will make a Sandman movie. Neil Gaiman has sad no Sandman movie.

Yet, there are plans to make a Sandman TV series.

Neil Gaiman's Marvel 1602 - the Marvel Universe re-imagined into an Elizabethan England setting. Might only work as a 2.5 hour animated movie, seeing how it would cost too darn much to produce in live-action (seeing how every major Marvel property is in it!).

Jeff Smith's BONE. Starts as a whimsical homage to classic comicstrips like Pogo and pre-Duck Tales Scrooge McDuck, but soon turns into a complex, layered Tolkien-esque plot. Well written with endlessly consistent art style. Can only work as an animated film. Or three.

I heard there were plans to adapt this into a film in the coming years with Smith as a producer or something like that. As of right now, I don't think any sort of production has begun.

The only comic book movie I'd ever be interested in seeing would be The Sandman. I just don't see how they could do it well though.

I would really like to see it adapted as an anime and that would probably work better ^_^ Get the team behind Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust to do the art, make it 3 seasons at least and yeah...

Other than that, I don't care to see any adapted. I'm bored sick of superhero films... I don't even bother with them anymore except for Batman... But yeah, I don't care if they never make another superhero film again. I've been avoiding them for awhile now.

I'll tell you which one I wouldn't want made into a movie: Transmetropolitan. I don't think it'd work well as a movie. Not that they couldn't pull it off visually; it's not really a superhero movie with heat vision or flying. It is futuristic, which seems to be common by now. But the things that happen and the way characters act and talk might be a problem, especially if a company is looking to make it a PG-13 rating. In order to make Transmet PG-13, it would have to be stripped down to something completely different. Besides, what movie company would make a movie about a journalist? They'd probably try to change that too, somehow.

Transmet would make a pretty awesome R rated movie though.

Jonah Hex. Yes, I know.
Deadpool, recasting Ryan Reynolds. Or if someone else is a better fit, cast them instead.
Nextwave wouldn't make much sense outside of comic books but I probably wouldn't care.
Invincible. The first two arcs are practically tailored for a movie.
The Darkness and/or Magdalena. Oh, and Impaler even though it's not finished. Because I am a Top Cow fangirl.
Courtney Crumrin.
House of Mystery as a television series.

And Five Fists of Science, because...

Actually, I don't think a movie would do. A TV series would be a better treatment, as it would have more time for things to develop. Too bad the first effort by Nickelodeon was dodged by Smith, and rightfully so. They were going to give it...an opening song by Britney Spears. Yeahhh. :bang:

Oh, and here's another one I forgot: Elfquest. They tried to turn this into a cartoon back in the 80's, but it didn't take because the creators didn't like the direction the cartoon was going (let's just say it was for the best and leave it at that. I've seen pictures of the character designs. ick). It deserves another try, if only because Wendy Pini is one of the best comic book artists around.

Elfquest would probably be best served as an anime, if only for content. Western audiences still aren't that keen on mature cartoons that aren't...well, immature about the subject matter, and the only way to do the characters justice visually would be through animation.

Because Wendy Pini's art rocks. (As long as she stays away from the computer.)

Qft. Why does every "mature cartoon" have to be like Williams Street's stuff or The Simpsons?

I'd like to see a good movie done for The Mask. The comic was awesome. The movies were total buttocks.

Also, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, Too Much Coffee Man and Scud the Disposable Assassin. Okay, so I have no idea how the first two could be done, but it'd still be interesting to see.
