Yeah but why would you want a secondhand lion? You don't know what their previous owner was like, they might not be trained well. Best to get lions directly from the source.

Sunshine (<-- trailer)... AWESOME!!! I loved this movie! I can't believe I never heard of it! The only reason I found out, I was listening to a song on Youtube I like, The Ghost of Icarus, and someone said it was based on the movie Sunshine. So I just saw the trailer and had to check it out. Awesome Sci-Fi adventure thriller! One of the best space films I think I've seen. Really tense too! I don't usually sit at the edge of my seat watching a movie but this movie really built up a lot of tension. Really beautiful to watch too but you're always waiting for something to go wrong and of course it does but anyway.

Totally recommended for anyone looking for an ACTUAL good sci-fi adventure thriller. I mean I think this sits up there with Alien as far as how it built atmosphere and tension. There's not a whole lot of action being thrown at your face or anything like that and the pace is really good. How this film wasn't more successful is beyond me.

There was an element I didn't care for that shows up at the end... but it's a major spoiler. The film didn't need it IMO to keep it suspenseful. But still awesome regardless.

Edit: Oh and the soundtrack was awesome as well... This clip from the score perfectly sets the mood for the film a lot better than the Requiem for a Dream music in the trailer. Beautiful, eerie...

Nate, so true; so true. At least with a new lion I would know how many miles it has done and how many bites it was per minute. But I'm not much of a lion tamer, so I'm going to have to buy the lion secondhand from a reputable owner, maybe a safari park ranger. ;P

Scarecrow, I also loved Sunshine. It gave me a new appreciation for the power and majesty of the sun. Yes, it's a pity the element towards the end is so divorced from the original concept and a little silly.

I tried to watch that once, but fell asleep halfway through. Maybe I should give it another shot sometime.

The movie was made to celebrate the Boshido code and the selfless service of true samurai while condemning the caste-based society in which both were employed.

That happened to me the first time as well. I recommend watching it in two sittings.

[spoiler]Yes, there was that, and also the samurai who seemed most likely to get killed are the ones who survived. What I mean is, Hambei and his old friend (what was his name? Shichiroji?) expected that this would be their last battle and seemed prepared to die, but they lived. And I expected Katsushiro to get killed because he was the young, inexperienced guy, but he lived too. And the awesome swordsman, Kyuzo, got shot down, and Kikuchiyo's death shocked me. Even poor Yohei didn't make it It illustrates quite effectively that if you've got a sword, and the other guy's got a loaded gun, no matter how good you are with that sword, you really don't stand much of a chance.[/spoiler]

I just watched Mad Max. Would've enjoyed it a lot more if

a) I could understand what the actors were saying
b) Netflix hadn't spoiled the entire freaking climax of the movie

Some actors I could understand, others, not so much. I wish subtitles had been an option! I was using Netflix's instant watch feature and most of the time it doesn't have the subtitle feature included. (Which really sucks, by the way.)

No worries mate, I totally understand. For some reason older Aussie movies have not so great audio or the Aussie accent sounded different on film back then because I had some trouble understanding parts of that movie too. Especially Mel Gibson. That's a bit silly that Netflix didn't provide subtitles. Have you seen Mad Max 2 (Road Warrior)? That's my favourite of the trilogy.

Just finished watching The Sting, starring Paul Newman, Robert Redford, and Robert Shaw. Pretty great movie; kept me guessing until the end. Some nice acting, too.

Last night my husband and I watched The Road Warrior (AKA Mad Max 2) and Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome.

TRW was...okay. I didn't hate it, but the pacing was reaaally slow for an "action" movie. The finale was pretty interesting though and there was at least a smidgeon of character depth. But dang, it was...violent. My husband said it bore a strong resemblance to Fist of the North Star, minus the "You are already dead" and exploding heads and stuff.

[spoiler]And I felt so sad when Max's dog died. He was like a supporting character in the film despite being a mere dog.[/spoiler]

I had already seen MM:BT once before. I think this might be my favorite one of the whole series. A lot of people seem not to like it; I guess because they were old enough to remember the big Tina Turner marketing blitz that accompanied it. Being two years old when it first came out, I pretty much missed out entirely on seeing the film in that sort of context, so I was a little more willing to judge it on its own merits.

MM:BT has quite a different tone than the other films. For starters, this movie is rated PG-13 so it's nowhere near as graphic as the first two. Maybe that's another reason why people didn't like it as much. (Dumb reason, if you ask me.) It's more campy, more like a popcorn film, but still gritty and kind of dark.

The scene in the Thunderdome was pretty awesome, and they ended up making you feel sorry for the "bad guy". And Max actually gets a little bit of character development, and more than five lines of dialogue. XD There are a lot of other interesting/weird characters, too. The sets and costumes are creative and the concept of Bartertown seems like a very realistic scenario in a post-apocalyptic world.

The story kind of takes a detour in the middle and you're left wondering, "what in the heck does this have to do with the first half of the movie?" But then they bring it back around in the end, and I thought the result was satisfying.

tl;dr: If you like 80s action films you'll probably like the Mad Max series.

Watched Close Encounters of the Third Kind last night. That was a pretty good movie! I thought it was way better than ET (which I dislike a great deal). I like that it's not a film where evil military guys shoot at the benevolent aliens; I found that refreshing.

Yeah. Just watch the anime. A bit too much Japanese humor for me, and I think the exaggeration they do with the characters and situations work much better in animation than in real life.

Madmen Season Three

More amazing characterization. The finale was superb. I don't think an episode of TV has made me feel so simultaneously triumphant and gutted at the same time. Can't wait for season four DVDs to come in the mail. I recommend this show to anyone who likes enjoyment.

Digimon Adventure + Digimon Adventure: Our War Game

This was pretty much the beta version of Summer Wars. It was enjoyable, and I was filled with nostalgia.

SUCH a wonderful movie. It's has a nostalgic tone, even if Digimon wasn't part of the viewer's childhood.

Just started watching Avatar on blu-ray, after having watched it once in the theaters. Still visually stunning, but I'm a lot less motivate to sit through this marathon of a movie on DVD.

Ju-On- Still manages to freak me out. Even moreso since I haven't seen a scary movie since my October marathon. Man! I honestly can't think about going into a dark room without hearin that rattling breathing....

RV- I love you, Robin Williams. This movie has grown on me the more I watched it. Go figure.

You've Got Mail - it might be a giant advertisement for AOL in some ways, but it's also just a sweet, witty movie that brings back nostaligia for old romcoms. But that dial-up tone makes me want to spork out my ears. We only got rid of it MAYBE 3 years ago.

I just watched the Scream trilogy again. Been a while but since the new movie is coming out, decided to pick up the old ones finally.

I love these movies ^_^ I'm not a horror/slasher fan at all but I still think these are pretty great. Even the third which everyone hated (albeit, it IS the worst of the 3 but it's still pretty good). They're just so fun... I remember finding them suspenseful the first time I saw it but at the same time, it had this funny side to it. It was clean and well lit unlike most horror movies... Great villain costume. Yup, I like em. Looking forward to seeing the fourth one. Not getting my hopes up but yeah... I'll be there opening weekend.

And I still say I did it first! When I was in 5th grade, a year or two before Scream came out, I bought myself a Ghostface mask... they were just generic masks they sold around halloween time every year. There were three. The one they used in Scream, another one that was similar but he had more of an elongated smile, and a third one I don't remember the look cause I hated it. Anyway, I bought the one with more of a smile in it... my costume was long cut up black shirts and pants... It looked a pretty similar to what they did in the movie, just more homemade (my mom made it for me)... and I carried a large grim reaper scythe. A couple years later, when scream came out, I was so mad I didn't buy the one they ended up using in the movie. But I still claim I was the inspiration for the look
