The Day Of Judgement

Postby TopazRaven » Tue Dec 07, 2010 11:23 am

Is the world really going to end on May 21, 2011? I've been hearing around that this is the day Jesus is suppoed to return to Earth. The day of judgement.

I didn't think so either, but I'm kind of curious to what everyone else thinks on the matter. xD

Matthew 24:36: “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.

Yes this is referring to what is commonly called in certain theologies as the tribulation. Predicting the end of the world is both stupid and unbiblical. It also serves to only generate fear and panic, almost exclusively among Christians, since nobody else gives a crap. People have been doing this sort of thing since the 1800's and nobody, despite their 'signs of the times' or 'biblical parallels' has been correct.

No reason to think anything different here. It's just a couple men yelling loudly about something they can't possibly know about to try to control people and scare them into doing what they say.

No way to tell. Honestly, I don't believe that that date is Judgement Day. I don't think there's any way that humans could know it beforehand- they had a similar belief in 30 AD (due to it being 30 years after His Death)100 AD, 1000 AD, there were a bunch of people in the 1800's that thought that, and most recently 2000. I think the 2011 date is an aftereffect of the 2012 end-of-the-world date that was popularized in that one movie.

Everybody here is correct: nobody can predict when the time will come. Anybody who tells you when it'll happen is either severely misguided or just plain lying. The verse mechana posted and many other verses make this very clear.

Ok, thanks guys. Not that I don't look forward to the day I get the chance to meet God, I'm just starting to try and get my life together and I don't want to die yet. I'm selfish I know. I haven't read the NT yet or Revelation so I didn't know what was really said about the end of the world in there.

Let me put it this way, Topaz Raven. Lots of people have predicted the end of the world. Back in the 1840's, someone thought it was going to end in 1848 (I think). It obviously didn't. These predictions can also be dangerous: Jim Jones persuaded a whole lot of people to kill themselves in his compound known as Jonestown. As Jesus himself said: "Be watchful and ready, for you do not know the day or hour." However, he doesn't want us to worry. Why? The devil's already been beaten. TWICE! (the first time was at the very beginning of the world, when he got thrown out of Heaven. The second time was when Jesus came back from the dead) Do you really think you need to worry about someone who's 0-2?

I bet that's what the Houstan Texans said when they went up against the Dallas Cowboys on September 26 of this year. "Pssh the Cowboys are 0-2, we don't have to worry about them!" And then the Cowboys won.

Yeah, but they're humans. We're not talking about them.

http://www.stufffundieslike.com/2010/12/rapture-games/#comments I'm going to drop this here as well. The comments on this blog show the kind of insanity and mental scarring that can happen when people take this sort of thing (predicting and obsessing over the end of the world) and make it too important in their lives.

Everybody has pretty much said what needs to be said. There is a very long (and hilarious) history of people picking dates for when the world is going to end. So far they have all been wrong. Come to think of it, you would think that when Jesus says "Guys I don't know when this is going to happen" people wouldn't try and say "Hey guys! I know when this is going to happen!" But they do...weird...

2000 was still the best end of the world. I don't think we'll top that one. I mean Y2K, planes falling out of the sky, everyone's bank accounts being lost, birth records vanishing. Come on. What can May 2011 do to top that?

No 2038 will beat 2000. In 2038, computers will break due to the cycling of Unix time in a 32-bit integer. It'll be the end of computers as we know it!!

Dug up some info on the people going "2011". Apparently they're followers of one Harold Camping, who's made a bit of a career out of his "end of the world" things. The first time around, he predicted it would end in 1994. The number of his followers have been growing since then.

But to reiterate what everyone else said, the Bible states that there is no way that we could know which day it all happens.

What would it matter?

Also, I think claiming that 'this is THE time for THE END' is a rather egotistical thing to claim, one way or another. You claim to know God's mind when you say that sort of thing and claiming to know the mind of the creator of all existence is a rather hefty insult to said creator.

If that theology is true, it's not dying anyhow, more like living more and in a way better place. And that's not the only interpretation of the whole end times/revelation concept out there anyhow. It's hardly an agreed upon thing that it works the way Left Behind or any other rapture theology says it does.

A reacurring theme in the Bible is to make full use of your God given talents, potentials, and resources. So live like Jesus is coming at any minute. And Srsly, how would hanging around doing nothing look when He gets back? XD

Wait what if God comes back while you're sleeping? Then you'll look lazy. QUICK DON'T SLEEP EVER JUST IN CASE.

That sounds funny until you hear stories about kids terrified to sleep because they think they'll be left behind since they were 'filling their lamps' rather than waiting earnestly and awakened with full preparation.

That is actually funny, but srsly, think about what God would say if he came back and found out you weren't sleeping. 'specially since He designed most of your bodily repairs to be done while you're asleep. XP

Thats right people, He's coming back, and He's got a LIST! XD

EDIT: Yes, I know God doesn't have to "find out". But it sounded funny so I left it there. XD

Cats and dogs living together; mass hysteria.

Live life while you've got it. Why should it matter what you're doing when Jesus comes back? He already knows everything you've done, are doing right now, and will do in the future so what does it matter if you're pooping or sleeping or watching a movie when He returns to earth?
