Since they were being sold alongside with the real ones might indicate ignorance. Or just indifference. Either way have you thought of talking to him about it?

It might be ignorance, but it looks like they were being made off of his(or someone's) home PC.
Well considering I no longer drive near that area, and I haven't been over there since about... a year, not really, I did consider contacting Funimation though I didn't go though with it.

I never noticed any bad print quality or anything (Ever Anime does a good job), but my DDR 5th Mix CD says 4th Mix instead of 5th Mix on the side label. o_O

Hmmm. That's the problem. They get a Photoshop or Corel Draw expert or graphic designer that's good and make it indistinguishable from the real thing. Happened to me. Doh! :bang: You still get the chancers who can't spell but then you get the experts who set up a legitimate looking shop in a well to do neighbourhood.

The thing is the place where I bought the bane of my conscious sold legal Xbox and Playstation games along with legally produced Manga so there's no reason for the average patron not to trust them. They even got an anime club. They're obviously putting their heart in it and enjoying it, but I wonder if they know it's illegal. I think the management might. Sigh...

Oh, and I have not read through most of the posts in this thread, so I'm not going to get all praisey or knowledgey here. I just wanted to say that I am against bootlegging as well. I want to support the companies who make our great entertainment - anime, manga, j-pop, etc. - so they can continue to be in business. :thumb:

Bootlegging. . . grrr. . .

What I hate most about bootleging is that you pretty much have elliminate buying ANYTHING anime related on Ebay, because it's rank with booklegging. AHHH!!! And worst of all, there's just somethings that are hard to get without ebay.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I have seen a few legit DVDs on Ebay, but your right most of them are bootlegs, and it is better to be safe then sorry, so yes, its bes to avoid Ebay and other places that work as an "inbetween" for 3rd parties.

This thread is a real surprise to me, here on CAA. I know CAA stands for an unbiased and welcome refuge for anime lovers. Anime, let’s face it, is usually looked down upon in the mainstream Christian world.

[font=Times New Roman][size=100]Having said that, I’m surprised this thread was not only created, “Christian’s Against Anime Bootlegs,â€

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

Yes it is a good place for anime loves who are Christian, in fact when I came here I was hoping most would be against stealing because this IS a Christian site.

You do know that this thread wasn't supposed to be about fan subs, right?

I didn't go into them BECAUSE they are a grey area. I am opposed to them but thats not what I created this thread for.

I wasn't really posting or reading along for the legal/illegal part of it... I hoped that that issue would be left alone, honestly. =/ People have their own (strong) beliefs on what is or isn't right, and there isn't going to be a way to sway most.

I was just interested in this thread because I do want to be aware of where any DVDs/CDs I would plan to buy would come from, and I would feel bad if I accidentally bought a product that wasn't what it claimed to be. I'm glad that some issues were addressed to help me recognize unofficial products. So some good came out of it, I think.

And also, please allow me to clear something up, my goal with this thread was not to change the minds of people who knownly support bootlegs, it was to INFORM people who unknownly buy bootlegs.

Alright, I think this thread has gone far enough. Before any more disputes break out on this subject, I am closing it. Simply because CAA was not meant to be a place of disputes and arguments, but fellowship. I'm glad you each have your own convictions, but I think this matter is settled.

Vyse, now that you've raised the subject, why don't you create your own site and educate the masses there? There are many free website servers available out there now, and that is a much less confrontational way.

At any rate this is closed.
