Okay, I'll admit, DBZ was one of the first animes I was into, but now I watch it for the laughs. The first few seasons were great. All the way up until the end of the Frieza saga. After that it was like, ok, we saw this before. :bang: It's new enemy, good character death, new power, good wins and saves the world but we can't tell anybody cuz the people are stupid! Yay! But Vegeta will always kick major butt.

Hasn't this thread outlived it's usefulness already?

Everyone's expressed their opinions on the matter.

Ah, I dunno. Sometimes it's nice to rant just a little.

Yes, yes it has. This one is in my mind to be locked, but perhaps someone else might have something to say. Hopefully until then it can drift toward the archives.

I have something to say

I dont like DBZ. Although it was my first anime and I unfourtuantly and saddly say I've seen all the episodes.

It was good for a while....until I found Rurouni Kenshin and my anime collection exploded from there from series I would of never heard of a year ago.

So thanks to DBZ, I like much better anime :)

I have to admit this. Nothing can hold me back now. I actually LIKE DBZ.... to a point...

Allow me to explain. I think that DBZ had a relatively deep story to it, as shallow as it was... If you think about it, up until the Namek saga, the series flowed pretty nicely. Even during the Namek saga, it was pretty cool... up until they kept going back to Goku as he was "traveling through space" (personally, I think he made a couple stops to stock up on food. Think about how much he normally eats.).

About ending the series, though... If they stopped at the end of the Frieza Saga, it probably would have been a favorite even among the "anime-purists". If you think about it, the way it was set to end was nearly perfect: all the hype from Vegeta about the Legendary Super Saiya-jin, Vegeta (before his *cough* 1st death) admitting his respect for Goku's power and his thoughts that he might be him, and then Goku actually becoming a Super Saiya-jin. Nearly perfect! At least, I'd like to think so.

It even could have ended after the Cell Saga (Toriyama really intended it that way?): Goku valiantly giving up his life to stop Cell, then Gohan (my personal favorite... but only at that age) surpassing the might of his father, arguably the most powerful hero in the known universe, to defeat this ultimate foe.

But they had to keep going, didn't they... THAT was the worst idea ever. I'd say more, but I need to get going. I'll keep going the next time I'm on.

Personally I would have been far happier without the Buu Saga as well. However, I believe that Toriyama originally intended to end it after Frieza, not Cell.

I dont' like DBZ, mainly because I prefer a very precise, detailed anime-- and DBZ just always sorta struck me as rough. Plus, I'm really not a shonen person to begin with and a half an hour of battle sequences and bad dye jobs just didn't really pull at me.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Aah! Don't lock it up yet! I just noticed its existance!!

It really dampens my spirits to hear people bash one of my favorite shows with no good points about it at all. :( *someone whispers, "you poor sensitive weakling"* HEY! WHO SAID THAT?! :stressed: I forgot my rant because I read so many other very GOOD ones that mine would probably just say the same thing. Ann's for example. I agree with most of the defenders here!! Power to DBZ fans! :thumb: Being a minority is tough, but I'll stand up proud and tall for DBZ! I just have one thing to say in response to a post.

What, you mean you can't see them clearly?! You have to use your ki to sense them!! Train harder! ;)

I liked it, For a while. They also made about 12 movies which tottally shot the plot. It's Ok if you edit out 7/8 of the episodes and watch the real PLOT.

GG(Good guy): I will win for rhe good people.
BG(Bad guy): No. I will destroy the planet for no reason at all.
GG: Fear my yellow hair.
BG: No
*25 episodes later*
BG: Don't kill me.
GG: Ok
BG: Haha I am stronger!
GG: NO!
*25 episodes later*
GG: I beat you!
*2 seasons later*
BG: I'm back!
*Rinse and repeat*

I used to like DBZ. On occassion its fun to watch but the only thing I truly like to watch is the Bardock special which is very good.

I just dont like DBZ anymore to put it simply. It's worn out it's luster. Plus I view anime has the "downfall" of anime trying to make it into the mainstream and what not. When people think of anime that has never seen it either think

DBZ
Pokemon
or
Giant Robots.

All those can be negative. Plus the dubbing (to me) isn't the best. Plus it can be fairly predictable and lacks a really deep plot in which I really enjoy in anime.

If its on and I dont have naything else to do, I'll watch it.

I could treat you to my long-winded rant on why DBZ is underappriciated, but I won't. All I'll say is that Toriyama wanted to stop the manga after the Furiza Saga, and then again after the Cell Saga, but Toei/Shonen Jump kept him going for reasons of money. I personally love this show and think it is a true masterpiece. It mostly gets a bad rep because the dub is so terrible. Watching the Japanese and watching the dub is literally like watching two different anime. I've heard it said DBZ is no more than a rather violent children's show. Ha. Ha ha. I laugh at the very idea.

Please, view the DBZOA section of this site.

I liked it for the first few episodes, this was actually back in the mid-late 90's before it got really big in the states. The main problem I find with this show is that it repeats over and over again. The cast battles some alien force, from there they struggle and one of the fighters powers up in order to match the monster's insane power level. Then Goku would come and save the day---I'm sorry but this quickly became trite and soon I just gave up on this show.

Geeze! Why is everyone resenting this board? I think it was fine to talk about it. I am confused and feeling like everyone is trying to shut this board up! :bootout: :mutter: :(

Yes, everyone, keep the commentary to something new. At least read the thread first, and if your comments about DBZ have already been stated, don't say them again. This thread is getting a bit dull...
