Favorite Pet Pleasures

Postby Rusty Claymore » Wed Jun 02, 2010 6:37 pm

This thread mirrors Biggest Pet Peeves. The antonym, if you will.
I like finding words/phrases/methods in videogames that are drawn from the bible. Example: a skill named 'Fallx7 Risex8' refering to the verse Pro 24:16 that states, "...a righteous man falls seven times, but the wicked fall once and are destroyed." The R. guy keeps getting up. ...Yes, technically if you fall 7 times you can only have risen 7 times. But not if you count the first time you rose before you fell the first time.

So, what are everyone's favorite things? And no singing. ...ok a little singing.
Proverbs 31:32 "...when she watches anime, she keeps the room well lit and sits at a safe distance."

I like commonsense, sensible people. They're so refreshing to talk to.

Just a simple thing, but I like it: there's an older man who walk his dog alongside the road most mornings - he's either in almost the same spot each time, or he's not there (I'm not that consistent with timing). He waves to every car that passes. What a legend.
Everywhere like such as, and MOES.

Ah, a lot of things.

A bar of solid, sweet milk chocolate.
A warm bed with thick blankets on a chilly night.
Rubbing my dog's belly.
Finding an exceptional AMV
Reading a wonderful book that makes me feel lost in a story
Listening to a heart-pumping song.
A good sneeze
[Quote] I like commonsense, sensible people. They're so refreshing to talk to. [Quote]
Agreed!
Making up a story
Recieving a letter
Lying on the beach on a sunny day and listening to the waves crash
Arguing (Not mad-arguing, but a mental challenge that pushes my reasoning and knowledge, and expands my views. I respect a good debator.)
Not being sick (oh, I love not being sick)

haha, too many. I count my pleasures much more often than my peeves. Which is why I have more of them.
So what's the speed of dark?

Meeting my dad after work once a week and going down to the pub.

Finishing a good book.

Eating a piece of shoestring licorice.

Watching some MST3K or Doctor Who.

Playing a video game with lots of big, satisfying explosions.

Amen to that. Many a Sunday morning have I worshiped at Mattress Methodist. They're good people.

If you like that one, feel free to use it. "Bedside Baptist" and "Pillow Presbyterian" also apply.

This one is going to seem like I'm stating the obvious, since this is, after all, an anime/manga site. However, I don't know anyone else on the site that shares this particular pleasure, so...

Settling down with a good sports manga. There's just something so...comforting about this stuff. The rise from perpetual obscurity to the top-tier of athletics is fun and exhilarating. Young people getting to do what they love to do and the inevitable "never-give-up" thematic...all of these and the other elements that make up sports manga combine to evoke a contented sigh from yours truly.

Now if you'll excuse me, *reaches for a volume of Whistle!*

This is going to cheer me up just thinking about it

Plain cream top yogurt with maple syrup in it.

Potato pancakes

Just potatoes in general

Watching "so bad it's good" movies with my siblings and Mom and laughing all the way through.

"Treasure Island," the book and the 1990 movie version.

A good adventure or fantasy book

Samurai manga, especially "Rurouni Kenshin." There's just something about the unlikely heroics and all that just makes me happy.

My daily drawing practice. Even if I start out grouchy or not wanting to do it by the end I am always cheerful.

Going someplace with my friends and just hanging out.

Chinese food, I love that chicken and I know where they make the best fried rice on the planet.

Realizing that I am the only girl in whatever group. It just amuses me, especially since it often takes me hours to notice.

Hot loose leaf tea with just a hint of sugar.

Studio Ghibli movies.

Going camping with my friends.

Kittens and cats purring.

Kittens playing.

Cats sleeping on or near me.

The days when my favorite web-comics update.

Being alone.

I guess that got long, but I am so cheered up

Does it has to be something we actually do or have done? Because I mean sometimes I have these fantasies that...

Well, okay, maybe I won't share those.

I like the idea of this thread! XD I like enjoying the little things in life. XD

Including but not limited to:

Falling asleep while it's raining outside
Waking up in the morning when it's raining without having anywhere to be
Driving with my car windows down--also, driving with my car windows down during a summer shower
New books
Old books
Silence mixed with solitude and tea after a very busy week/day
Finding (and decorating with) really cool album art
Being awake when no one else is
The smell of paint (wall paint)
The smell of gardenias
Summer evenings with the windows open
Almost-cold Fall weather; also, Fall colors
New sketchbooks
New journals
Looking through old sketchbooks (and laughing really hard)
Looking through old journals (and laughing really hard)
Getting sucked into a book's story and characters
Getting sucked into a movie's story and characters
Getting sucked into a TV show's story and characters
Finding symbolism in books, movies, and TV shows
Finding music that perfectly fits my current mood
The movie Dan in Real Life. I don't even know why, I just think it is so good. XD

Anyways, there are likely a lot more! Nothing else is coming to mind right now, but it's funny how much easier it is to think of these in one post than it is to think of pet peeves. XDD I guess that's a good thing!

Salvation. :)
Living life with my husband. It's amazing to be loved for who you really are.
Loyal and true friends whom you can trust and be yourself with.
Knowing God will always look out for his own.
Unexpected acts of kindness.
Being missed.
Knowing you made a big, healthy impact in someone's life.
That first bite of something absolutely delicious.
Music that depicts exactly how you feel.
Good books. :)

Watching a good series, especially when it has a good ending.

Talking about anything and everything with my husband.

Skype-chatting with my internet bros until 4 AM.

Going out for waffles late at night.

Eating ice cream on a hot day (or any day).

Driving around while singing along to my favorite songs.

Petting a nice kitty.

Cutesy things.

Giant robots.

And lately, this:

Going to the bookstore

Hearing a piece of music that gives me chills

Imitating someone perfectly, thus making somebody else laugh

Just making somebody laugh

Jokes that take a minute to fully understand (they're the best kind)

Seeing friends; hearing from friends

Watching a really funny TV show

Watching a really good TV show

Experiencing a plot that is really intriguing

Watching excellent AMVs; those videos where they stick a video to a different audio track, and the lip-sync is actually done well, and it's all good

Working out the kinks in a story I'm trying to write

Being outside when it's raining

Correcting my Mom's grammar; also, the grammar in a book/movie/anything (it's actually weird that I can do that, because I often have no idea how to articulate a particular error)

Fridays

Saturdays

The times I get to sit back, raise an eyebrow, laugh, and say, "What the heck is with that?" (In a good way)

Watching anime

You're going to think I'm somehow sucking up to the 'admins' and 'mods', but...Going on CAA!

The smell of freshly baking bread
The sound of waves crashing against the shore as I fall asleep
Any books by Tolkein, Dickens, Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie, C. S. Lewis, Robin McKinley, Madeleine L'Engle, L. M. Montgomery, Jane Austen, Louisa May Alcott, or any well-done movies made of books by the same
A sincerely meant hug
Listening to Cecilia Bartoli sing
Discovering that an anime/manga that I've been following has the next volume released right when I'm aching to continue it
Christmas Carols - especially oldies, like the first Barbra Streisand, or Carpenters albums

I'm easy to please most of the time, but there are a few cool things that stick out more than others;

Cigars (Especially Cuesta Reys),

Diet Coke (goes great with said cigars)

Desert weather.

Taking really long walks.

Running,

Don't make fun of me, but I've always liked cuddling, laying in a gal's lap, and holding people. It's about as soft as my soft side can get.

And spending time alone with God; that's my favorite! I feel like I have His undivided attention, and that we're actually able to hang out together and have a good conversation.

Bunnies! Lots of bunnies live in and around my street because of the boulevards and on campus. We even have raccoons and possums living in the sewer!

Sitting in a bookstore, in a comfy chair, reading. Manga or books, it doesn't matter, as long as it's good!

And babies. I like babies. Why? Because there are literally no babies in my family anymore- the cousins are all over 18 (and none are ready to marry- not even dating!), and everyone else is over 50 and starting to die off. So I don't get to see/hold/interact with babies enough to get annoyed by them. I haven't been within ten feet of a baby in about 7 years- even when I go to restaurants and movie theaters!

Come join my family. Marriage (or finishing high school, for that matter) has nothing to do with whether or not there are babies. Oh yes, it's drama.
