4Kids to Rebrand TheCW4Kids Block on Saturdays

Postby TheSubtleDoctor » Wed Apr 28, 2010 8:27 am

Here is a fun little tidbit:
The American licensing company 4Kids Entertainment confirmed with its clients before its 2010-2011 season upfront presentation this month that it will be rebranding its Saturday morning programming block on affiliates of The CW network. Currently, TheCW4Kids block runs from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 4Kids will tentatively rename the block as "Toonzai," as part of the larger effort that includes the addition of Dragon Ball Z Kai. 4Kids also indicated that it will retain Yu-Gi-Oh! and Sonic X in its lineup.

4Kids Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Alfred Kahn said in March that "4Kids needs to return to its roots as a licensing and merchandising company [that] specializes in bringing wonderful Japanese programming and merchandising to the rest of the world." Kahn added that the company will be producing very little animated series on its own because it is much more costly than bringing over a Japanese franchise, even with the costs of dubbing, and so the "overall risk reward ratio is much more favorable."

Kahn added he has worked closely with his partners in Japan over the past year and a half, and the company had signed an agreement for a "very important Japanese property." Kahn also said that his company updating TheCW4Kids block with a number of "substantial Japanese hits."

Yeah, I'm pretty down on 4Kids after the One Piece debacle. But, I might give DB Kai a watch just b/c I'm curious.

I thought 4Kids was dead. Guess that was more wishful thinking.

Media Blasters can't die until I get my gosh darn Dairugger XV DVDs!

Also yeah, I thought 4Kids was in trouble, so what's up with this? I have to wonder how heavily they're going to edit DBZ Kai. (It will also be airing on Nicktoons Network. WUT)

Last I heard 4Kids was dying, not dead. They make their money by making anime into "cartoons" (by means of editing it every way possible). This is popular for most of the kiddies, but apparently, it's not paying all the bills yet.

If they are going to pick something new up, I sort of want them to pick up Heroman. I think that would be very amusing. XD; Or just some anime that no one has ever heard of.
Also, I feel bad for laughing that 4Kids thinks they ever had roots in bringing wonderful Japanese programming to the States(or anywhere). XD;

Wut is this I don't even.

I thought they were dead and gone. Guess they're still alive.

As to the "wonderful Japanese programs" apparently Al Kahn hasn't learned his lesson. I fear for what this important series is. I fear greatly.

One thing is certain. There will be more rice..I mean jelly filled donuts.

When I first saw Heroman, it did strike me as something that would be more of a kid aired show in the US. As a plus, if 4Kids did it, they wouldn't have to censor every part of Japanese culture. Not that I like the idea of 4kids touching anything, but, well, you know.

Heroman is a definite plus for 4kids considering it has a huge dose of IN AMERICA.

The one thing I will give to 4kids, it introduced me to anime when I was younger. If I hadn't watched it as a young un, I wouldn't have had as much tolerance or interest in it when I started to watch it when I was 16.
