Heroes. We're supposed to root for them and they usually drive the story. (Except in cases like Code Geass and Death Note, where the protaganists seem more like villains IMO). So, who are your favorite heroes in anime? Here are some of mine:

Ashitaka from Mononoke Hime would be my number one. Others include: Vash the Stampede (Trigun), and the Elric Brothers (FMA). I thought about listing Roy Mustang (FMA), Maes Hughes (FMA) and Kuwabara Kazuma (Yu Yu Hakusho), but I consider them to be supporting characters. The term "hero" makes me think of a story's main protagonist.
