Captain America

Sci Fi Wire wrote:Good news for those worried that Scottish-born John Barrowman or Australian Sam Worthington might be the guy to put on Captain America's red-white-and-blue tights: Director Joe Johnston said categorically that he will cast an American in the title role of The First Avenger: Captain America.

"Casting an American? Absolutely," Johnston said in a news conference in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Saturday while promoting his next film, The Wolfman. "Oh, yeah. I don't think we could make the film without an American playing the part. But we may not be casting in America, because we're going to London. I think we'll probably shoot in the U.K. for most of it, because it takes place in Europe. But, yeah, we'll definitely be casting [an American]."

Johnston also revealed other details about his upcoming film:

♦] Brubaker series [from 2004] and to interpret that sort of visual style into a film in a way that I think has been tried before, but it always looks like it's a little too on the nose. It looks like, oh, they're shooting a comic-book movie. I want to try something a little bit different."

♦Johnston promises big action set pieces. "Right now we have to sort of pick our battles, because it's a little more than we can afford right now, but there are some great action sequences, stuff we haven't seen before."

Captain America is due in theaters on July 22, 2011.

IF THEY DON'T KNOW HIM HOW CAN THEY CAST HIM?

Sorry bad joke. But hey, look on the bright side. At least I didn't make an "In America!" joke. I'm sure a few posters after me will take care of that for me.

You can't have a Scottish-born John Barrowman or Australian Sam Worthington playing Captain America. Its just un-American.....In America!

This is as it should be. Captain America needs to be played by someone without baggage.

The search is over: Chris Evans IS Captain America!

Sci Fi Wire wrote:Tired of agonizing over which actor would end up starring in Captain America: The First Avenger? Us too! So we were happy to hear that Marvel had made an offer last week to Chris Evans, best known for his role as the Human Torch in two Fantastic Four movies.

And we're even happier to learn that, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Evans has accepted.

Supposedly, after thinking about it for a few days, the actor decided that yes, he was willing to wield Cap's shield, and negotiations moved ahead quickly, with the dealmaking moving so fast that all that's left is dotting the i's and crossing the t's.

Marvel would not comment on the development, and CAA, which represents the actor, declined comment.

So what do you think of this latest Captain America casting news? Are you ready to get behind Chris Evans?

I just took a look at his picture. It looks like he would make a good Cap.

But no one wants to make a joke about this?

Well, if we declined to comment, of course we'd be keeping silent!

Anyway, by "unknown," they mean "already stared in two blockbuster superhero movies"? I keed, I keed.

Personally, I was kind of pulling for John Krasinski to get the part, but I'm sure Evans will do well. He WAS the best part of those previously mentioned Fantastic Four movies, after all
