What kind of statistical measurement did they conduct for this? D:

So, the conclusion is: what do both Louisiana and Florida have? Hurricanes.
Hurricanes make people happy, apparently. :D

My state is not as far down on the list as I thought it would be, though. That's somewhat nice.

Interesting, I'm pretty high up on the list. XD I do wonder how accurate this is, though. There's no way they could've surveyed enough people in each state to get a good idea of people's satisfaction with life. XD Every state has rich and poor people (which could bring some interesting results in their life satisfaction, actually), happy and sad people, depressed people, cheery people, etc. etc. But I would think a study like that would have a looot of extenuating factors besides just the weather. After all, some people like rain! XD

Also LOL Goldie. XDDD That's totally because they have to balance out how happy they are with a one-two punch from the Atlantic or the Gulf every now and again. XDD

About Louisiana #1 for happiness?, I think they must have polled a bunch of happy drunks at Mardi Gras!

Or the BBQ and jumbo is that good down there!

Whoa, whoa.... Maine is 10 and Alaska is 12? And these are *ahem* sunnier states than Nevada 39 and California 46?! It's night for six months of the year in Alaska--they have one of the highest suicide rates because of it. I find the conclusion that happy people (and cows) come from sunny states to be highly flawed.

I notice several of the rust-belt states scored pretty low. Pretty sure the regional jobless rate had more to with that than the weather....

Well, about half the people I know are fairly happy, and the other half (myself included) have emotional/depression issues. MN's a fairly sunny state, which is blinding in winter when the white snow gets even brighter. Oh, and we have cows here. They seem content enough.

Just ranking them is kind of pointless without any numbers to see the standard deviation, the percentages of "happy" people, and the relative rates compared to other states.

Haha. Michigan is 49th on the list. That really doesn't surprise me. We aren't exactly known for being friendly around here.

Well, people here in Florida seem to be very relaxed.

Except for the ones with New York license plates, that is.

As far as anecdotal evidence is concerned, I would say the study is accurate.

How is California not No. 1?

We have the highest concentration of happy people in America.

Some of them are even trying to get married.

If Arizona is cheery, I hate to see the morbid nature of other states O_o. Actually, I despise sunny days, mostly because EVERY day was sunny here in AZ. I loved storms and monsoons because... well, it blocked out that accursed sun.

I disagree with this research in support of actual weather. But that's just my opinion.

Oddly there was a Dinosaur Comics about this recently. I WOULD just straight up embed the image but there's a slight bit of language? So I will just regular link it and say hey there is a slight bit of language in this comic. But it is totally relevant to this:

That one took me a second. *whap*

Natch, California has its own problems unrelated to sunlight (not germane for this thread, of course).
