Thanks for your thorough review, CDLviking. I've always almost grabbed this title when I've seen it. My good friends who enjoy anime as much as me, have always told me not to rent it. They know how much I hate to watch anything with animal cruelty or child abuse and they think this will bother me to no end. I'm still curious about this anime though, and some day I may rent it. I'm sure, however, I can live my life without ever having watched this. I do appreciate your review. ^_^ It does sound like a very thought-provoking anime.

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

I'd say that was a really good review, and definitely right on the money. Not that it matters, but it's got my seal of approval :p

Well thanks!

true_noir_chloe: If you don't like to watch kids get hurt (come to think of it, who actually likes to see that?) , then yeah, this is probably something that would at least make you uncomfortable. It's kind of like Trigun in a way, for a show about the value of human life and hope, there is a lot of killing and despair.

Thank you for the review. This is another anime that I've been curious about for some time but I really think I am going to look more into it. Now that you said its sort of like Trigun, I really am interested. One of my favorites ^^;

It's like Trigun once you strip away everything funny (well, not everything, Shu has been known to elicit laughs on ocassion) and leave it with pain, death, moral issues, and my favorite... Hope. I compare it to Trigun (and Kenshin too) because both of the main characters are pacifists who will still fight for a just cause, and despite their refusal to kill, a lot of people die anyway.

That is just one of the many reasons why Trigun is my favorite and now that you mention Kenshin, which is another on my top five favorites, I will be doing a lot more looking into this. So far it sounds like something I can get a few of my cousins into, but of course I'd have to see it for myself before I even think of that. Again, thank you for the review ^^

NTHT, Kenshin, and Trigun are my three favorite anime. I guess that shows my preferences pretty well.

actually this shows is really realistic, it potrays a soceity driven by greed and war runned by a maniac dictator(who sorta is like a cooky version of hitler, real meanie) not too mention that the way characters are killed off is pretty realistic(not that gore is advised) but it really shows the cruelty and tragdegy of slavery and war in a despot country, two thumbs up for this show, this is a very DEEP DEEP show not advised for those who want happy ending prince save the princess he he

peace out, God bless ^.^

Agree agree. This serious sounds pretty cool, assuming I can look past the child abuse and such. It seems along the lines of the animes I like.
Thanks for the Review!

Out of curiousity, how young is the kid who runs around naked while his pants are M.I.A.

Also, does this anime end sadly? I can stand a sad story that's a good story too so long as you don't walk away from it in the end thinking "Life is a black hole of misery and dispair."
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. It ends...in a balanced fashion. I mean, the ending wasn't completely tragic and good does triumph eventually, but it does leave you very melancholy afterwards because it was somewhat of a pyrrhic victory.

Anyway, the last time I watched NTHT was a few years ago. I do remember being properly shocked at the appropriate parts though. It was a very evocative series. Having the main leading cast as children was very misleading...you'd think it was something aimed for children, then it turns out to be exactly the opposite. But I guess we needed that too. It shows that adults aren't the only ones who undergo trauma...in fact, the trauma experienced during childhood is what carries over to the adult years.

I swear, I never felt so much hatred for a villain than I did towards Hamdo. I really did want to get up and punch the TV screen when he was there. ^^;; Very effective characterization.

The boy without pants is probably no more than 6 years old.

Though there is a lot a sadness throughout the story, I think that it is essentially a story about hope, and I liked the ending very much. My recommendation is, if you can take the brutality, watch this series.

One of my favorite movie is the Matrix, is the brutality anything like that?

The Matrix was brutal? No, it's nothing like that. I'm not talking in terms of on screen violence. I'm talking about the emotional toll of watching children get forced into slavery, beat up, shot, and forced to kill.
