Oldman confirms new Batman shoots in '10

Postby Roy Mustang » Fri Jul 24, 2009 12:21 pm

Sci Fi wire wrote:During the Comic-Con panel today for Warner Brothers' The Book of Eli, Gary Oldman told attendees that shooting for the third Batman film is immiment.

"Batman will start shooting next year," he said when a fan asked how soon we would get to see another film from Christopher Nolan. "So it's two years away [from release]. But you didn't hear that from me."

Oldman declined to provide additional details, but this qualifies as one of the first public confirmations that the third Batman is going forward.

I guess they managed to sign who Nolan wanted. I hope he doesn't get Jolie.

For Catwoman?

She'd work... I've never thought she was all that attractive, but I could see her working for catwoman... Thing is, how are they going to adapt her to Nolan's world?

Roy, thank you. You just made my wife's day. She was so happy when I told her. As for Jolie... I think she lacks a certain class of husky elegance. As for how she'd fit in, Catwoman would be one of the more nolan appropriate characters. Nothing really supernatural about her. She's just an exceptional catburgler.

Oh so it was Gary Oldman who confirmed it. I suppose that's more authoritative than just an Old Man confirming it.

I wonder if it'll be as good as the last two or if now the series will start to crumble.

Unless another actor involved dies tragically, I doubt people are gonna like this one as much... There's also the fact that the "night is darkest just before the dawn" was one of their big sequal lead-in lines, so I don't think this one will be nearly as dark as "Dark Knight" This is going to be things picking up and working out better. This movie will be more optimistic, and therefore people won't like it as much.

There were a LOT of factors that went into Dark Knight's popularity, and I don't see that being repeated, but I hope it still makes a great ending.

Well, I'm not disappointed, but I'm reserved on how I feel about it as of yet. XD I loved The Dark Knight and I would be totally satisfied if they didn't make it a trilogy. Even so, I'm excited to see what else Nolan will do with the series.

Bob's right. There was a lot of external stuff that went in to the mass popularity of that film, things that cannot and should not repeat. Still, the first movie was an exceptional film outside of those factors and I see no reason not to at least hold 3 up to that candle.

Just because Nolan might be working on it doesn't mean that it would be a great movie. He said himself that there are rarely any good third movies in a franchise, so I'm thinking he's hoping just to have the movie successful enough to be technically profitable, but nothing more. I am not sure he'll really have his heart in it.

If they're going to stick to the Batman timeline in the comics then the next logical step(s) would be to introduce either the Penguin, Catwoman, or Robin. The thing is, Nolan's Batman universe is set in a much more realistic tone than the previous movies, or even most of the comic books, so, in my mind at least, it's gonna be one heck of a stretch to introduce those characters as realistically as they did with the last 2 movies' characters.

Then again they might completely surprise us and introduce lesser-known characters first, like they did in the first film. It all depends on what theme they choose for the third installment I guess.

Nolan's talk has been of bringing in Catwoman and the Penguin, as it happens.

If that's the case, no other way to make Nolanverse Batman more optimistic than a little kid in bright red and yellow and green tights.

Better yet, add in a teenaged girl in bright yellow high-heeled boots.

After seeing what Nolan does with movies, I fully trust whatever happens.
"To be a good listener, you must acquire a musical culture...you must be familiar with the history and development of music, you must listen...to receive music you have to open your ears and wait for the music, you must believe that it is something you need ...to listen is an effort, and just to hear has no merit. A duck hears also." - Igor Stravinsky
