Geocities is closing

Postby rocklobster » Fri Jul 10, 2009 7:17 am

After such a long time, Geocities is closing its doors. I was wondering if anyone else here has heard the news. I'm actually surprised and appalled at this.

Yeah, I heard about this a while back. It's kind of sad, but I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles. Apparently they're going to leave all the old sites online though.

Oh, I'm sure it's cookies crumbs will remain in your cookies bin for years to come. Every computer made before 1999 will carry a little piece of Geocities with them... always...

I had a Geocities site that I never took down... Whatever. I have a paid domain now. If only I had access to Dreamweaver still to edit it properly, instead of having to do it manually.

Knew about it on the day that Yahoo announced it, which was April 23, 2009.

I hate to see people use their jobs as you know they will cut back.

But on the other hand, Geocities wasn't the best free web hosting site out there as well and they did have too much advertising.

First class that I took for Web design major was to make a web site, but use three free web sites and Geocitles was one of them. There was not one person on that class that like Geocitles and how it was set up. We had more errors in our web sites with Geocitles, then the other two that we used.

[color="RoyalBlue"]I'll miss Geocities, it was the first free site I ever used. Sure it had it's kinks, but it was simple for me to use. Ah well, goodbye Geo..

Surprised? Yes. Sad? No... I hated geocites. I didn't even visit geocite sites cause of all the rediculous advertising and 98% of geocites websites were garbage and not worth viewing anyway. So.. now when is angelfire gonna close? I thought that was worse than geocities....
