How many people like roleplaying

i'm a big fan of RPG's and warhammer is pretty cool. i play a game called 'Glory Bound' and one of my friends (a DM) with lots of experiance made it up, he combined D&D AD&D Warhammer quest someother games...and some stuff he just made up out of his own personal experiance. i did try playing a RPG that wasn't fantasy with 40K models (oh yeah we use fantasy models in out game as well as pen and paper) but the wasn't much to roleplay not too much to levelup on etc. and your pretty much limited to guns so we gave up...yeah

GOD IS COOL!!!

Im slightly suprised nobodys mentioned GURPS, its a bit more involved on the GM's part if he goes with a original world and story but its so much more worth it. Plus its more charicter driven, theirs no levels. (unless thats how the GM wants to do it) anyone evan heard of it before ?

I've done a lot of RPGing in my time but Im not particulaly knowledgable when it comes to the slang and abbreviations. In other words, what does GURPS stand for? It would be nice to know what LARPing stood for aswell. Thanx.

GURPS is a role play system like shadowrun or D&D . Stands For Generic Universal Role Play system, Their are lots of books you can have, but all you really need is the one basic book, it has all the rules, and you can make up the rest (like lands extra rules all sorts of things). I have the basic book, and both compenduims wich are books with more advanced rules and weapons and more charicter building stuff. Its an excellent system. Its good for people who like to have more freedom from rules. Like any good GM (i like to think i am anyway) i basically memorised every rule in the game, and most of the stats for weapons and stuff.

As for LARPing that stands for Live action role playing. People dress up and hack at each other with foam weapons. im not very well versed in that though, perhaps someone can give a better explanation

Lol, sounds like when me and my friends where little and played 'swords' (as we used to call it). We'd run around pretending to have sword fights which usually ended with two people arguing over who killed who. Good times, good times...

But, anyway, LARPing sounds a bit dodgy (in the 'Im a wizard and can use magic' sort of way), GURPS sounds kool though, definatally my sorta RPGing...

Unfortunately not all LARPers use foam weapons.... I met one particularly strange individual in junior college who would go out into the desert with his friends, and they would fight with real weapons and armor. :o

Yeah, I've participated in GURPS games in the past. It's a great system, and has a lot of potential, it just really isn't my thing. On the plus side, you can be absolutely moronic: for example, there was a campaign in which our sole goal was to annex Canada.

Right, you can do any kind of game you want, its limited by imagination only. Im the kind of gm/player whos always like "ya know thats pretty cool and all, but why cant i do this?" (plays the role of a rules lawyer type) "Because thats not in the books." blah, your lack of imagination shall hold me back no further......... ok that was a bit of a dramatization but still you get my feelings.

I've seen groups do this locally (it's really big with the renethingie fest. that they have every year).... not sure how sharp the weapons are though.

Does hail back to one of the issues that people used for saying D&D was bad, they even did a (bad) film with Tom Hanks about the issue, some kid getting too wrapped up in the game.... was supposed to be based on a true story or something.

Just further pointing out that you can interprete things multiple ways. I'm not saying that no one wants Canada, nor was the word "moronic" necessarily attached to the campaign in any way other than the fact that rping the annexation of Canada is both stupid and pointless. And fun.

I'm a huge console RPG fan.

Haven't ever played D&D or any other pen/paper RPGs though. Don't really have anyone around me who I could play them with.

I GM the Naruto rpg, which is a good deal more of a pain than the others to do. Not that I don't enjoy it, but working with that many statistics and experience issues is tiring after a time. Other than that, I've done minor pencil and paper GMing, but little of it in general.

"The Dutch may have their Holland, the Spaniard have his Spain,
The Yankee to the south of us must south of us remain." :P

Anyways, I generally prefer playing to GM'ing myself, especially since it's a lot less work. At the moment though I am preparing a D&D campaign for play. It's become a fair bit of work, since I'm also developing a custom world for the adventures to be set in. And that of course means developing a credible geography, history and mythology to go a long with it. I've GM'd before of course, and it's usually a lot of fun. We'll see how this one goes.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

Hey, guys all this talk of RPGing has kick-started the game I'm creating once again. I created a Cave Bat last night, now I just need to find something for it to stand on before I cook it...

I've tried my hand briefly at figureine makeing. I always end up makeing it too large so i just crush it and start again. after i've repeated the process a few times i get bored and just do something else. Anyone else make figurines?

I make models (small sculptures), but not yet for roleplaying. If I ever get a really cool character, maybe I'll make a model of it.

Ever start an idea in a game, and then everybody else jumped on it? On a tactical game i was in, (though it didn't last long) I started a special group of soldiers that would ......... forcibly keep America going the way it should. Like assasinateing government officials who would sell information, or evan do something that might open America up to problems later, like opening trade to communist nations and stuff. They where called the "Blood Rogues" it was pretty cool, cause after alot of the other players found out about it, they dropped the charicters they where makeing and joined up on it. It was kind of a good feeling to see people really liked my idea.

Anyway, anybody else have a story like this?

I suppose it depends, for role-playing is a vague term.
It can mean all sorts of things...
Perhaps it is merely vague in my mind, for I know little concerning the subject.

I like both on-line rpgs and rpg games! Zarn Ishtare and I roleplay on-line all the time! But for some odd reason we haven't here yet...hmm...I've been rping on-line since 7th grade(is currently in 10th) and I love FFX and FFX2! Well, and Legend of Zelda but that's not really an rpg is it?

Well looking back at I do love console rpgs, the ones I have a hard time with are the PC ones. Somehow I just get lost in all the attention to detail, I prefer character development and story I guess.
