Is RahXephon good?

The real heart of CAA; discuss specific series, issues, and things related to anime here.

I have finished watching the series on all 7 DVDs (US). There's a lot of rewatch value. The beginning reminded me of the Matrix and the ending reminded me of End of Evangelion but -- much happier. I like it. RahXephon is more of a love story and drama compared to a mecha show like Evangelion, and a lot LESS messed up. I would like to not compare it to Evangelion but it's the best way for me to describe much of it, since it makes connections to it but improves on the "formula". By no means is RahXephon a Eva clone. Eva is purely psychological. RahXephon is about the artist's heart, drama, and a love story. Both can be confusing though. REWATCH!

I'd suggest getting the US DVDs. The little inside jacket with the list of characters and translation notes helped me understand it better.

Dude, I feel like I can at least understand RahXephon... I can't wait for the movie to come out.

Agreed, Rahxephon is like a more sensical Eva. And the ending is good! *shudders at Eva ending* I loved it.
Maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veered off course, we wouldn't fall in love, or have babies, or be who we are. After all, seasons change. So do cities. People come into your life and people go. But it's comforting to know the ones you love are always in your heart. And if you're very lucky, a plane ride away.

Can someone clarify the "other gods" angle on this?

It doesn't bother me in the least, but several folks have mentioned it without elaborating. What role does that play?

Umm.. I don't think there are really other gods.

*******SPOILER*******

There is a character (I won't say who) who manages to live thousands of years and "created" the world as the "Creator" but... something happens to this person at the end. This something shows the contrast of humans making choices and the "divine" interventing on free will, I guess.

*******END SPOILER*******

You'll probably need to watch it more than once. And on AnimeOnDvd.com, there's a great explaination thread in the forums for those who finished DVD7! http://forums.animeondvd.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=273037&page=&view=&sb=5&o=&fpart=all&vc=1
If you read it without watching ALL of the episodes, you shall be confused.

I just finished watching the first ep of this and um, I'm totally confused. They just throw you right into the story; I feel like I missed the prequel to RahXephon or something. For one thing, how does the main character know the girl he meets up with? He acts like he's known her for years yet is confused to see her. Anyway, am I supposed to be this confused after ep 1? I never even had this much trouble with NGE, not that I'm saying NGE is better than this, just wondering if I should continue watching or if I'm just going to get more confused.

Im on ep #7 im still a litle confused about everything but im getting over it. The animation is so nice I really love it plus the dubs are done rather well. My only complaint would be not enough info if I was the main character I would not be doing anything for TERA untill I had a little info first. But overall its really good :thumb:

They explain most questions by the end. Read the following thread if you have seen ALL of the DVDs for more answers. (Most questions, like I have said, are answered by the end of the series but it is done rather quickly)

Hitokiri, you really don't get what's going on until you're around half-way through the series. So, don't worry if you're not understanding it now. I'm watching it for a second time to write the review on it in the Anime Review section, and I'm catching a lot of stuff I missed the first time I saw it. Hopefully a more indepth review will be done for you all soon. ^_^ BTW, as I watch it a second time, I realize the philosophy is less deep than I originally thought it was; however, it is a very beautiful show and the music is awesome.

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

I only saw 1 biblical reference in the show that I can recall. That is of Methuselah. But, that one is not an easy one to pick up.

RahXephon has to be my favorite anime. I just love how they portray the enemy compared with the portrayl in NGE. And episode 19 is the highlight, I have never seen a more powerful episode in any anime.
Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. 2 Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. 3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. 5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

This was the series that really got me into anime (other then movies like Spirited Away and Anamatrix) -- seeing it on The Anime Network. Now buying the DVDs. And, the quality of this series definately spoils you as far as your expectations for other anime!

For those of you who are lost...you really have to make your way through about half the series before the picture becomes pretty clear. And you have to give it some thought. But it's well worth the investment, IMO...like reading a really good fantasy or sci-fi novel.

What cable system do you have anime network on? I'm so jealous! I hope it becomes a regular channel (not on demand) and comes to Dish Network soon.

I think that is very good. About religion I see that it haven't anything in common with our religion, but the moral of the manga is good.
I readed in another message that someone think that this is a manga Hentai. I think istantly:-- An hentai!?-- No! This is not an hentai!!!!
