Postby bigsleepj » Tue May 05, 2009 11:18 am

From IMDB.com

American actor Dom DeLuise has died at the age of 75.

The veteran comedian passed away in his sleep at a hospital in Los Angeles on Monday night, reports TMZ.com.

DeLuise rose to fame in the 1970s and '80s, appearing alongside pal Burt Reynolds in movies like The Cannonball Run, Smokey and the Bandit II, The End, and All Dogs Go to Heaven.

He became known on the small screen for his magic act as 'Dominick the Great' on the popular Dean Martin show between 1972 and 1973, and went on to further establish himself in Hollywood with appearances in Mel Brooks' films such as 1974's Blazing Saddles, 1976's Silent Movie, and 1993 comedy Robin Hood: Men in Tights.

The star was also nominated for a Golden Globe in 1974 for his work on TV comedy Lotsa Luck, while he received a nod at the Daytime Emmys in 1999 for his efforts on animation All Dogs Go to Heaven: The Series.

DeLuise spent his latter years writing children's books and cookbooks.

He is survived by his actress wife Carol Arthur, who he married in 1965, and their three actor sons Peter, David and Michael DeLuise.

Sadly he's been in a lot of bad ones as well. But to be honest a lot people will have a favourite comic performance of his somewhere in mind as they remember him; mine is as Don Giovanni in Mel Brooks' Robin Hood: Men in Tights, which is arguably the best parody of a Marlon Brando performance I've ever seen (and trust me, there have been many).

Aww maaan that sucks! I loved him in so many movies, but I remember him most for the cartoon characters he played...

Like Itchy from All Dogs go to Heaven, and Tiger from an American Tail, and that Troll...

and the pet owner in Oliver and Company....

Waah so sad. :< I'm bummed now I loved his voice...

Weird thing is I just found an old movie he was in on Youtube on Sunday where he played the voice of Christopher Columbus...

Geez, this is sad.

The man who gave Kermit the Frog his big break died? :waah!:

He hosted Candid Camera, too. I loved that show!

If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things."

Too bad not much can be said for the rest of the movie. One of Brooks' weaker efforts.

He had many bit parts in movies before he hit the big time.
One movie he was in was a drama "Fail Safe" he was Air Force Sgt Collins in the SAC command center who had to tell a Russian general how to blow up the bombs on run away US bombers heading for Russia over a open line to their operation.

I wont argue with you. It's definitely not perfect but it has a lot of memorable parts for me.
